If you didn't go to this

year's DCON at the Sheraton Hotel, then you've surely missed out on one of the most important aspects of Key Club. The weekend was packed full of fun activities that were sure to keep attendees on their toes; from forums to luncheons, there was never a boring moment at DCON. All of the events provided a kind of excitement that could not be experienced anywhere else.

DCON started off with a Big Bang with the Activities Fair, an event in which Key Clubbers could attend to really kick off their weekend and see just what this organization is about. The Activities Fair was just that, a fair full of activities; from photo booths to twister! After that followed the forums, arguably one of the most important parts of DCON. It is here that people learn about Key Club, whether it is how to be a good officer or how to increase attendance at meetings. Following that was Opening Session, an event in which attendees were truly welcomed to DCON. After that was Regional Caucusing. This is when candidates for next year’s district board compete against one another by giving speeches to rooms filled with all the members of the Texas-Oklahoma District. Afterwards was the

Leadership Luncheon, Awards Banquet, and then Governor's Ball. The weekend ended with the Farewell Breakfast on Sunday. All of these events were spread out along a four-day period.

I honestly cannot wait to return to the Sheraton next year to attend DCON again. I 've never experienced anything like it before. It's truly amazing to be able to spend the weekend with people around Texas and Oklahoma who all share a common passion for service. Going to DCON really opens the eyes of anyone who attends; it really lets us know just how big of a deal Key Club is. The way the convention is set up captures attention, and the way the theme is incorporated into everything is refreshing and brill iant. The contests are also a big part of DCON. The competition is tough, but just being able to compete against other schools in the T-O District is gratifying and extremely fun. I can't wait to go back and meet new people and make new memories with my fellow club members. Anyone who hasn't gone to DCON before should seriously reconsider; you won't regret making the decision to go. When next April comes around, ask yourself this: Are you afraid to serve?

What  a  great  year  has  just  passed  us!  We  went  from  a  club  that  wasn’t  even  in  the  top  twenty-‐five  to  number  six,  within  one  year!  We  have  become  more  known  and  we  have  more  representation  in  Key  Club  international.  This  occurrence  has  caused  the  bar  to  be  set  much  higher  than  where  it  used  to  be.  Therefore,  I  have  thought  of  some  goals  for  next  year  that,  if  accomplished,  will  raise  the  bar  even  higher  for  the  upcoming  Key  Club  year.

My  first  goal  would  be  communication.  Our  communication  was  absolutely  amazing  this  year!  We  (the  officer  team  and  members)  stayed  in  touch  through  Facebook  and  texting.  Everyone  always  knew  what  was  going  on  at  all  times.  Unfortunately,  more  and  more  members  are  becoming  inactive  on  Facebook.  Keeping  this  in  mind,  we  must  form  more  efficient  ways  of  communication  with  our  members,  whether  it  is  frequent  texts,  or  announcements  on  the  intercom.  If  our  communication  skills  can  be  upheld  I  see  a  bright  future  full  of  unity  for  Summit  Key  Club.

A  second  and  final  goal  of  mine  is  to  improve  the  organization  of  our  club.  Deadlines  should  never  be  an  issue  for  an  organized  club.  An  organized  club  should  have  budgeting,  planning,  communication,  and  initiative  skills.  The  club  should  be  able  to  represent  itself  as  a  whole,  not  every  individual  member.  An  organized  club  has  an  organized  meeting  with  the  undivided  attention  of  all  members  present.  An  organized  club  has  an  experienced  officer  team  that  works  diligently  to  get  the  job  done.

I  have  big  hopes  for  our  club  next  year.  We  have  a  great  officer  team  as  well  as  hard  working  members.  I  believe  that  if  all  of  our  goals  can  be  accomplished,  we  can  easily  make  the  top  five  clubs!

Forums were an amazing opportunity that we were lucky to be given. When I first learned what forums were, I wasn't very thrilled. Sitting in a room for an hour to learn about public speaking, didn't sound very appealing. Hour after hour we were going to have to sit through all sorts of different, long forums. But once we actually got to the forums, I realized they weren't that bad! In fact, they were really interesting and fun! The forums helped us so much, giving us the knowledge we need to succeed in Key Club. This is one of the most important parts of DCON. We truly benefit from every single forum! There were a variety of forums from member forums, to specific officer forums, to all sorts of leadership forums. Whatever forum you attended, you benefited in different aspects! One of my favorite forums was the one held by ours truly, Grace Liu! She held an editor forum that I attended with some friends. I was planning to run for editor, but they just wanted to come along and learn as well! And we did learn…a lot! It was also really fun because we were partnered up with a stranger, and played an icebreaker. We

all had a great time doing that, and once that was done we got to the serious part. I learned so much in that forum, skills I know I will definitely use throughout my whole term. In other forums, such as the Public Speaking, Leadership, and Servant leading we learned skills that we could use our whole life. It will not only help us as members of Key Club, but it will benefit us for our whole life! While the forums were very informative, they weren't boring at all! We played icebreakers in almost all of the forums, plus they had great leaders so they kept you involved! They truly captured your attention and kept you wanting to learn more. There were also member forums that were more relaxed and even more fun. There was an icebreaker forum, and even a zumba forum! Forums were a great way for us to gain knowledge on many important topics that we need as members. But they were also a way to meet other key clubbers during icebreakers while having a good time! Forums were informative, yet fun at the same time! It really helped open my eyes to many aspects of key club, as well as life in general!
