From the CEO...Spring brings us so much beauty and vibrant color in nature. It’s my favorite season of the year. It’s also becoming one of my favorite times at Blue Line Arts as we host the 3rd Annual Plates & Totems Invitational and CeramAcom ceramic competition. With more that 85 artists and something for everyone, the selection is greater than ever! I’ve already taken a sneak peek at some of the pieces, and I can hardly wait to share them with you.

This year, Blue Line Arts has diversified offering by adding another showcase for everyone to enjoy. If you’ve heard of Feats of Clay, then you’ll know what I’m describing. This year, America’s Clay Fest (formerly Feats of Clay) presented by the Art League of Lincoln will feature this exciting ceramic show and competition at Blue Line Arts. We’re thrilled to share in this regional partnership to support amazing ceramic artists in the world.

We even have something for our budding youth ceramic artists. I’d like to thank Tony Natsoulas and Alpha Fired Arts for their support and sponsorship of the ceramic workshops for youth. The excitement of watching children experience clay sculpture in our free workshops to make their own plates has been a memory worth noting.

Please take a visit to experience the wonderful work of clay artists today. It’s a rare opportunity to see new and unique work from artists around the world.

If you haven’t become a member, we’d love you to join us now.

Warmly,

Julie HirotaChief Executive Officer, Blue Line Arts

2013 NEXT GEN WINNERS

ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL EXHIBIT

BEST IN SHOW

Teri Nittler: Watching the Giant with Falcon Eyes

Teri Nittler is a senior at Granite Bay High School and already has plans to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh to pursue a degree in painting. Her unique style of painting will most definitely make her stand out among her peers for years to come. Teri’s piece in this year’s Next Generation High School exhibition pulls elements from an old Norse myth in which Loki, a renowned trickster, disguises himself as a falcon to deceive a giant who has hidden Thor’s hammer.

ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL EXHIBIT

FIRST PLACE

Tarah Golson: South by Southwest

It took Granite Bay High School junior, Tarah Golson nearly six months to complete the massive ceramic vessel she entered in this year’s Next Generation competition. She wanted to do something that had never been attempted in her school’s ceramics department before, and took her inspiration from a variety of traditional motifs from around the world. Although she hasn’t settled on a school yet, Tarah plans to obtain her degree in ceramics.

SECOND PLACE

Rachel Perez: The Faces

Currently a sophomore at Granite Bay High School, Rachel Perez still remembers the difficulty of transitioning from middle school to high school. Her delicately rendered drawing in this year’s exhibition reflects the stress and emotional turmoil she felt start-ing out at a new school with a whole new set of classmates and responsibilities. Rachel definitely plans to continue with her art studies after high school.

ADULT WORKSHOP SERIESCeramic Plates with Tony Natsoulas

Join local artist/exhibitions consultant on Saturday, April 27th from 10am-3pm for a five-hour ceramic plate workshop with a combination of demonstrations and hands-on direction learning the medium of clay. After receiving his Masters of Fine Art at the University of California at Davis in 1985, Tony has been working as a professional artist in ceramic sculpture. In undergraduate and graduate school he was fortunate to have studied at the University of California, Davis’ TB9 ceramic studio with the artist that put figurative ceramic sculpture on the map, Robert Arneson.
