We are quickly approaching the end of

the 2010/2011 ASHRAE year. I want

to thank the Membership for allowing

me to serve and to also thank those

that have contributed their time and

money in support of the Arkansas

Chapter. Our chapter will be well

served by the slate of officers and

Board of Governors being brought to

the membership in April for

consideration and election. The

nominating committee,

chaired by Kim Koch,

includes Chris Ahne, Chance

Hollingsworth, Rick Sellers

and James Dayer. Look for

the ballot of proposed

officers and Board of

Governors in this newsletter.

In accordance with our by-

laws, a voice vote by the

majority of the members

present at the April meeting may elect

Nominees to respective positions, in

lieu of mailed paper ballots.

Our new officers and Board of

Governors are being elected prior to

the Region VIII Chapters Regional

Conference in Dallas, Texas. This

year’s CRC is April 14-16 at the DFW

Hyatt Regency. As mentioned in

previous newsletters the CRC is a

valuable resource to hone your skills

in conducting committee work and

going through the officer chairs. The

CRC is an excellent opportunity to

network with other regional chapter

members. We hope you will join us in

Dallas.

April will conclude our lunch

meetings. Dennis Stanke with Trane

and an ASHRAE Distinguished

Lecturer will provide an update on

ASHRAE’s Standard 62.1. Indoor air

quality standards can be a challenge

to implement, especially while trying

to lower our carbon footprint. Mike

McClellan will update the membership

on local and national government

impact on the HVAC industry.

We will finish up our year this spring

by honoring our Past Presidents with

an evening at the Repertory Theater.

In addition to the show, Chris Ahne is

planning a silent auction benefiting

ASHRAE Research. You will be able to

review the auction items before the

performance and during the

intermission. Look for details in the

Past Presidents evening

announcement.

If it’s spring, it must be time

for golf! We have two spring

golf outings intended for

fun and to raise money for

ASHARE Research. Central

Arkansas kicks off the

spring on May 13th at

Hurricane Golf Club. The

Northwest section follows on May

27th at Stonebridge in Fayetteville.

Please consider being a hole sponsor

or other opportunities to contribute to

ASHARE Research.

Arkansas ASHRAE gave back this year

to two outstanding students with

$1,500.00 scholarships to help with

their engineering studies. Daniel

McCaulley a student at Arkansas Tech

University in Russellville was

presented a check at the March

meeting. We also recognized several

students from Arkansas Tech

University at the March meeting.

Samuel Clark from the University of

Arkansas in Fayetteville was the

second student to receive this year’s

scholarship.

It is a busy spring. We have one more

continuing education event in April.

The ASHRAE Chapter Technology

Transfer Committee will present a

webcast “Putting the Earth to Work for

COMPANION ACTIVITIES Thursday, Friday and Saturday

The Adventurer: If you’ve purchased the “Basic

Companion Package”, you will receive a ticket to

the Welcome Party (with 2 drink tickets) and a

choice of Friday or Saturday tours. This will

allow you to spend the rest of your time

exploring Grapevine. There is a Grapevine

Shuttle that will take you just about anywhere

worth going in Grapevine. Shuttle passes can be

purchased at the hotel front desk for $5/day and

shuttle schedules will be available at the

Conference Registration table.

We understand that not all of us travel with the

same purpose in mind. While some enjoy leaving

the planning up to those who are born organizers,

many of us like to venture out and make

discoveries on our own. If you enjoy “sitting back

and letting the action come to you,” we have

packaged activities just for you. Are you a card

carrying member of the Adventurer Club? There

are many opportunities in the surrounding area that

await your discovery.

The TOTAL COMPANION PACKAGE includes access to the Companion

Hospitality Lounge Thursday through Saturday

* Conference Early Registration

through March 13th

* Hotel discount rates through March 26th

FACEBOOK: Ashrae-Region-VIII-CRC

Tired? Is your daily life lacking excitement? The “Total Companion Package” may be just the thing for you. Light activities on Thursday allow you to rest up before the Welcome Party. Then it’s off-to-the-races with a tour of the Wine Tasting Rooms in Grapevine on Friday followed by an elegant lunch and a foot tour of eclectic downtown Grapevine on Saturday.

Overdue for a break?

Saturday Tour:

This tour is scheduled to depart at 11:30 am and return at 4:00 pm. It

includes a visit to the newly renovated Gaylord Texan featuring 4-1/2

acres of indoor gardens and winding waterways along with distinctive

shopping, dining and recreation options, the Grapevine European

Markets, an elegant lunch and lots of shopping. The tour culminates

with a visit to Grapevine Olive Oil Company’s tasting room, the

premier olive oil provider in the North Texas Area.

For those of you who prefer to attend the Awards luncheon, you may

still purchase a shuttle pass for the Grapevine Shuttle and catch up on

the shopping portion of the tour in the late afternoon. If you are

attending the Awards luncheon and did not indicate so with the online

registration, please send your request to [email protected]

and we will make sure to save you a seat.

escape from reality. You will be transported

from the hotel to three acclaimed wineries to

experience educational instruction, and be

guided through a sensory examination and

evaluation of wines by the winery hosts. A

Mediterranean lunch will be served during

the wine tasting at the second winery. The

wine tour experience will take approximately

4 hours and will allow you enough time to

return to the hotel and rest before the Friday

Night Dining begins at 6pm.

We are so honored to host the Companions that have supported ASHRAE functions throughout the years. If there is a request you have or need assistance in making your time with the Dallas Chapter more enjoyable, please let us know. Additionally, we have found the hotel staff and the business community to be amazing people most of whom live in the community they work in. If the CRC committee members aren’t sure how to accommodate you, we have extensive support in getting your needs met and questions answered. We look forward to seeing you in April!

Total Companion Registration:

As part of the registration, the Chef at the DFW Hyatt will be offering a demonstration along with culinary tips.
