Terms: Polar Temperate Tropical

Objectives:Locate and describe the three major climate zones.

Terms and Objectives:

Includes Tundra-very dry, small plants due to permafrost.

Taiga-very cold, evergreens allow snow to fall off.

Polar: Between 90-60 degrees latitude.

Includes:Temperate forests-cold winters/warm summers, deciduous and evergreens.Temperate grasslands-not enough rain for trees, the prairies.Chaparrel-cool wet winters/dry summers, short shrubs with waxy leaves.Temperate deserts- hot days/cold nights, low humidity

Temperate: 30-60 degrees latitude

Includes: Rain forests-Strong sunlight and lots of rainfall causing poor soil.

Tropical Deserts-Hot in the day and cool at night. Poor soil and many succulents.

Tropical Savannas-Very warm with long dry seasons. Mostly grass with few trees, many adapted to fire.

Tropical: 0-30 Degrees
