Residents along US Highway 2 in Montana are in agreement on what the priority of the Highway 2 Association should be according to initial results but split about how it should be carried forward. 80 percent of the respondents to date validate the original intent to advocate for construction of a four lane highway along the present route of Highway 2 in Montana but half of those believe exceptions should be allowed based on local input and priorities. Nearly 17% responded that four lanes are not necessary and new highway designs to help traffic flow and passing lanes should be priority. The survey asks for details to current transportation issues within the Highway 2 corridor in addition to specific safety issues or concerns that currently exist and current and potential opportunities for enhanced economic development within the existing corridor and/or an optimized US 2. The overall survey process is an effort to review organizational goals and objectives, re-affirm the Associations relationship with its members, residents and communities within the corridor

and insure the Association represents the values and priorities identified. Association President, Bob Sivertsen invites all interested persons and business entities within the US Highway 2 Corridor to complete the survey before the deadline of June 1st. The final compiled results will be utilized by the Association Board of Directors to establish organizational goals and priorities and shared with regional and state officials of the Montana Department of Transportation. The survey link is available on the front page of the Association website at www.hwy2MT.org. Printed copies can be obtained by contacting Sivertsen directly at 406.262.2346. Here is a sampling of survey results already submitted:

With the Bakken Oil Boom, we have seen a HUGE increase in traffic along the Hi-Line, not only more truck traffic, but commuters who come from western Montana to work in the oil patch.

If the highway was constructed in a way to be safe for all, it would increase the economies of the towns on the high line. The only way to make highway

2 safer is to build or increase it to a four lane.

A bad intersection on Hwy # 2 in the Glasgow exists where you turn off to go to Opheim or South

to Ft. Peck. This needs to be addressed and better lighting and flashing warnings about the intersection.

Currently there is not enough traffic to create significant traffic barriers. Passing lanes would assist in weather related travel difficulties and the like. However, I remain convinced that four lanes would support economic development along the Highline trade corridor.

Lots of traffic & impatient people who put themselves & everyone else on the road in jeopardy when passing... too many near misses... surprised there aren’t more fatalities on this road.

Both areas on either side of Glasgow should be widened. It is hard to pass slower traffic when weather is bad on a smaller two lane.

It’s a chicken and egg thing. If you build it they will come. On the other hand if the traffic were here they would build it.

Travels have gone well this month, and I am thankful for your prayers through this time. Many of you have casually or more seriously asked me in recent months about what my plans are for the rest of the year. In the midst of praying about and considering what God’s plans for me are after this initial two year commitment, I came across a quote by CS Lewis that has encouraged me to rest, refocus, and trust God.

“Never, in peace or war, commit your virtue or your happiness to the future. Happy work is best done by the
