The Holy Spirit in the Church
Youth Outreach Retreat
The Youth Ministry Team would like to thank the
people of St. Patrick’s for your support of our retreat.
The kids put together 10 gift baskets with homemade
Easter cards for families in our area and the Faith
House. Then they focused on what Christ did for us
by dying on the Cross. The day finished with games
and lunch. We are so grateful for your donations and
your prayers. God bless you and Happy Easter!
Pizza at St. Pat’s will resume Sunday, April 7th.
Once I was dead,
but now I am alive forever and ever.
—Revelation 1:18a
Easter Gratitude
A word of thanks is due to all who put extra effort
into preparing and assisting with our Lenten and
Easter worship. This includes our ministers who re-
arranged their schedules, our music people who
sang and played so pretty, our decorators and clean-
ers, those who helped set up and helped take down,
etc. etc. etc. And thanks to all who showed up and
participated and helped us all to praise and worship
our God during this glorious time for celebrating
new life.

publication will transition into a magazine format,
published 10 times per year. To begin promoting
this new format, initially all current subscribers as
well as everyone on the BSA mailing list will re-
ceive a copy of the magazine (April, May & June).
After that, only paid subscribers will be mailed a
copy of the magazine. There will be a limited num-
ber of copies made available at churches in the be-
ginning. For $2 per month, you can receive a faith-
based resource in your home to deepen your con-
nection with the local church, as well as our broth-

like to strongly encourage you to support this im-
portant outreach effort by subscribing ($24 / year).

Liturgical Roles for April 2013
From the Pastor’s Desk
On Holy Thursday evening, as part of our Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, we did the Washing of the Feet, in remem-
brance of Jesus’ action at the Last Supper. On that same evening, Pope Francis also did the Washing of the Feet. However, his cere-
mony seems to have been a bit more newsworthy.
Of particular note was the fact that the Pope held the Mass at a youth detention center in Rome. Among the feet he washed
were two belonging to a young woman and a young Muslim, even though Popes usually only wash male Catholic feet. The most
important thing was that Pope Francis made clear his aim: To do what Jesus did. His homily:
“This is moving, Jesus washes the feet of his disciples. Peter understands nothing. He refuses but Jesus ex-plains to him. Jesus, God did this, and He Himself explains it to the disciples.. ‘Do you realize what I have done for
you? You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have
washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for
you, you should also do’. “It is the example set by Our Lord, it’s important for Him to wash their feet, because among us the one who is
highest up must be at the service of others. This is a symbol, it is a sign – washing your feet means I am at your service.
And we are too, among each other, but we don’t have to wash each other’s feet each day. So what does this mean? That we have to help each other…sometimes I would get angry with one someone, but we must let it go and if they ask a fa-
vor, do it! “Help one another. This is what Jesus teaches us. This is what I do. And I do it with my heart. I do this with my heart be-
cause it is my duty, as a priest and bishop I must be at your service. But it is a duty that comes from my heart and a duty I love. I
love doing it because this is what the Lord has taught me. But you too must help us and help each other, always. And thus in help-
ing each other we will do good for each other.
“Now we will perform the ceremony of the Washing of the Feet and we must each one of us think, Am I really
willing to help others? Just think of that. Think that this sign is Christ’s caress, because Jesus came just for this, to
serve us, to help us.”
A young incarcerated person in Los Angeles wrote the following response: Dear Pope Francis, Thank you for washing the feet of youth like us in Italy. We also are young and made mistakes. Society has given up on us, thank you
that you have not given up on us.
