Delta Watershed Fish Project

Goal: protect public health by reducing exposure to mercury in fish caught in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Rivers Delta.

– Believe local fish contamination issues are a threat to public health.

– Receive few inquiries from the public regarding fish contamination.

– They are not conducting outreach and education activities on fish contamination.

• Key Findings: Community-Based Organizations and Community Members

– Southeast Asian, Latino, African-American, and Russian communities regularly eat fish caught in the Delta watershed.

– Generally low awareness of fish contamination and health risks of exposure to mercury in fish.

– Generally high awareness of fish contamination.– Should address fish contamination via

comprehensive water quality strategy.
