Program Update
Kuia Youth Activities School Age Care Program had our
Annual Multi-Disciplinary Inspection during the month
of February. Subject Matter Experts from Federal Fire,
Base Safety, Human Resources, Family Advocacy
Program, Exceptional Family Member Programs,
Preventive Medicine, and Early Learning Education,
inspected our program to measure our compliance with
our various directives (DoDI 6060.02, MCO 1710.30).
The inspection closely reviewed program efficiency,
safety, administration, environment, curriculum and
operations. The MDI is utilized to verify that the
program is meeting quality standards and are working
to with program requirements and regulations. It also
helps CYP prepare for the annual HQMC CYP Inspection.
Parent input and participation is vital to our program to
help us continually improve and grow, we always value
your ideas, questions, suggestions, and feedback!
Earth Day is Monday, April 22
Kids love dirt. They love water, grass, animals and all the
natural resources the planet provides. In honor of Earth
Day, show the importance of nurturing nature by doing
some of these earthy activities -- while sharing why they're
important with your children.
Beautify Something
Take a look around your house in your own front or back
yard, nothing helps decorate more than flowers. Head
down to your local garden store (preferably by bike, it's
Earth Day, after all!) and buy some seeds or flowers. Then
get planting. Tip: A perennial flower will allow your kids to
see their hard work year after year.
Clean-up Your Play
Who wants to play a game? Take some trash bags and
rubber gloves and let's see who fills their bag the fastest!
Sound like fun? Picking up is never the best part of a play
date, but putting kids to work cleaning up an area they use
often teaches a fantastic lesson on giving back and helping
the planet.
Re-create the World
Finding an excuse to make Rice Krispies treats is always
great. Your kids will love sculpting a globe out of the
yummy cereal and covering it with green and blue
sugar. As a sweet bonus, try putting some gummy
creatures on the earth too!
Reduce Your Footprint
Today is the day to dust off those bikes, fill up the tires and
pedal around town -- instead of drive. Head to a park or to
the beach for a picnic. Also try doing your errands by foot
or two (or three) wheels. And make sure to explain why
this helps the planet. All the (healthy) sweat is for a reason,
after all.
Take a Look in Your Own Backyard
Who doesn't love playing a detective? Go to the same spot
of your yard or front steps three different times during the
day breakfast, lunch and dinner, and take notice of nature
around you. What do you hear? See? Smell? How are the
leaves? Where is the sun? What animals do you see -- find
any tracks? Have kids discuss or draw a picture at each
time. Then compare the differences.

We hope you had a great Spring Break! Now we can
look forward to summer. The last day of school at
Mokapu will be on May 31. We will be open on June
1 and our summer camp program, which consists of 9
full, fun weeks, will start on Monday, June 3 until
Friday, August 2. Our summer camp this year is called
How far I’ll Go Adventure Camp. Each week’s theme
will vary and so will the activities, but can include arts
and crafts, games, STEM and science, cooking
projects, water activities, special guests, and field trips.
Please stop by the front desk and fill out the surveys for
the weeks that your child will need care. You will only
be charged for the weeks that you sign your children
up. Vacant spots will be offered to the children on the
summer camp waitlist. We kindly ask that surveys
were returned by April 5. If you have not completed
your survey, please see the front desk staff as soon as
possible. Thank you!
Aloha
