St. Mary Parish 3rd Sunday of Easter April 30, 2017
NOTES FROM THE PASTOR
Today is the third Sunday of Easter.
Late spring is a very busy time for
our parish. Next Saturday, 60
youngsters will receive their First
Holy Communion and 60 more will
receive on the following Saturday.
Bible Camp is just around the corner
and Encounter the Gospel of Life is
not far behind.
We will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Our
Lady of Fatima on April 30th and June 4 with a special
prayer service.
The Multigenerational Tea took place this weekend and
the Respect for Life Baby Shower winds up this weekend.
The popular Rose Sale sponsored by the Respect for Life
Ministry will take place on Mother’s Day.
Next week the pastoral team will put together our “To Do
List”. This is when we sit down and plan for the following
year. By the end of June, we will have scheduled all the
Masses for Christmas and Easter, planned the Volunteer
Appreciation Party, scheduled the meetings for the various
ministries, planned a Lenten retreat, worked on Black
History month, along with so many other activities.
By now, most of you have heard the most distressing
news that Fr. Dick Messina has a serious illness. His
attitude remains, as always, positive. He will continue his
ministry here as long as he is able. Keep him in your
prayers.
SPECIAL COLLECTION
Next week’s second collection supports three important
national Catholic missions. The Military Archdiocese
collection provides for Catholic chaplains throughout the
world for American servicemen and servicewomen. The
Home Missions collection subsidizes the evangelization
and formation activities of mission dioceses. The Black
and Native American collection strengthens
evangelization and outreach programs that serve the
Native American, Alaska Native, and Black Catholic
communities in the United States. Baskets for your
offering will be located at the entrances to the church.
Thank you for your continued support of our mission
collections.
MONEY COUNTERS WANTED Please consider joining this important ministry. We are
looking for 4 to 5 teams of 4 to 6 people to rotate counting the
weekly, monthly and special collections. In order to be in
total compliance with diocesan guidelines for the handling of
money, we must have these teams. Right now we have 4
volunteers but, to be fair to all, we need at least 8 more. This
is one of the “more hidden” ministries of the parish, but one
of great importance. I would join myself, but the regulations
forbid the clergy from being counters! Requirements are a
willingness to give 3-4 hours once a month to this ministry.
As with every volunteer, a CORI check is required.
If you are interested in becoming a part of this ministry,
please contact our operations and business manager, Andrea
Sevigny at 781/729-0055.
NOTE OF THANKS
Thank you so much for once again hosting a fabulous fundraising event for us! St. Mary's Hall looked gorgeous as we entered: Perfectly set up, elegant wine bottle centerpieces, pure white tablecloths, and such a welcoming environment.
A big thanks to Christa and the Peace and Justice Committee for all the planning, marketing and prep that went into making the day so wonderful. And a big thanks to Fr. Dick for welcoming people to the parish in the true spirit of Jesus and the radical gospel message. And thank you to Fr. Rick for allowing the Giangrande Family Scholarship Fund to use the hall once again for our annual fundraising event. This was our most successful fundraiser yet. The final total from our fundraising efforts this year, including donations, memorial scholarships, ticket sales, as well as raffle and silent auction proceeds is $11,660.08. We are so excited. We could not have done it without you! As I mentioned yesterday. This isn't about one family. It is about all our families, and the reality that all of us together are really one family. Thanks for being part of our family and for helping us pay it forward!

St. Mary Parish Family 3rd Sunday of Easter April 30, 2017
Celebrating
100 Years of Fatima Two Part Mini Retreat for All Ages
with Mary, Queen of Peace Sunday, April 30
Sunday, June 4
after the 10 a.m. Masses CHILDREN: Did you know that 100 years ago Mary
actually appeared to three children ages 7, 8, and 10? Did
you know she made them her special messengers to the
world? Did you know they stood up to the evil mayor who
told them they would die if they didn’t deny her? You are
invited to come hear the whole story after the 10 a.m. Mass
on Sunday, April 30, in the Lower Church. You will love it.
Brunch snacks will be provided first in the gathering room.
You will also receive coaching to help you bring Mary an
Jesus home for the anniversary month of May.
ELDERS: Our generation knows about Mary’s miraculous
1917 visit to our world, but this generation does not. We
know Mary uses even one decade to come close and guide
lives, so please bring loved ones who need that connect with
her. This mini retreat has two parts -- Sunday, April 30, to
hear a dramatic telling of the Fatima Story and receive a
household prayer kit; and then Sunday, June 4, to hear local
people tell their experience of Mary’s action in their personal
lives. We will come away knowing: She is still with us.
Come for one day or both!
TRIP TO THE HOLY LAND
Some of our parishioners have expressed an interest in
planning a group trip to the Holy Land in Spring
2018. If you are interested and would like to discuss the
details, please contact Elizabeth Ventura at
[email protected] or call her at
202/558-8008.
ADORATION OF THE
MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT When He returned, He found them asleep. He said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep
watch for one hour?" Mark 14:37
Come and spend the most peaceful hour (or part of
an hour) of you week with Jesus. Each Friday
after the 9am Mass, the Blessed Sacrament is
exposed upon the altar (Lower Church). The
recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will take
place at 3:00pm, followed by reposition,
Please join us. We are committed to having at
least two persons present at all times of Adoration,
There is a sign-in book in the Gathering Room
near the entrance to the Mary Chapel, If you can
commit just one hour or more, please contact
Ursula Koslowski at 781/729-6170 or email:

Today’s Reflection We continue our celebration of Easter today by again hearing stories from the early church. We who have completed our Lenten journey of renewal, as well as those of us who are newly baptized, can together hear these stories and use them to deepen our own faith. As we celebrate together today, let us each resolve to take the Good News of Easter that we share with each other and spread it at home, at work and in the world around us.
