They were overwhelmed with emoon as they had just witnessed the crucifixion, death and the resurrecon of Jesus. Two walking together became suddenly, now three. They were unaware who was walking with them. They invited this stranger to eat with them and it was the simple act—their eyes were opened as to the identy of this stranger. Did you see Jesus in your family as they called to see if you were safe and in good health. Responsorial Psalm, Protect me, O God, you are my refuge.God Bless YOU! Welcome to the Third Sunday of Easter!

Can you believe we have not been with each other now for several weeks? As a deacon it was strange being at home watching the Easter Triduum from my home and not being there as I was for many years of my life.

Good Friday chanting, “ This is the Wood of the Cross”, as we processed to the front of the church then watching each and every one of you coming forward to kiss the cross. The Easter Vigil starting outside with a fire and lighting the new Christ Candle for the year. Then processing into the church chanting,“ The Light of Christ “.

Why do I recall these events? In today’s Gospel we hear or read of a journey two men were having on their way to a village called Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking about all the events that had taken place in the last couple of days. They were still stunned and grieving their friend and companion. They were overwhelmed with emotion as they had just witnessed the crucifixion, death and the resurrection of Jesus. Two walking together became suddenly, now three. They were unaware who was walking with them. They invited this stranger to eat with them and it was the simple act—their eyes were opened as to the identity of this stranger. The simple breaking and sharing the bread with one another. Their eyes and hearts were opened remembering the same event at the Last Supper. IT WAS JESUS! How could this be?

In these last several of weeks did you not recognize Jesus walking with you, keeping you safe? Or did you see Jesus in the televising of masses in our church or churches around the diocese. In a special way did you see Jesus in the occasional trips to the grocery store in the person down the aisle. Did you see Jesus in your family as they called to see if you were safe and in good health.

Responsorial Psalm, “Protect me, O God, you are my refuge.”

God Bless YOU! Stay safe with open eyes Jesus is walking with YOU!!!!!

Salmo responsorial: “Protégeme, oh Dios, eres mi refugio”.

WEEK AT A GLANCE

USCCB Priority Resources as

Regards to COVID-19 Through the good leadership of our shepherds, the Church is experiencing the remarkable grace of spiritual closeness from a distance. To the extent you may find it helpful, the Conference has been collecting examples of how our community of faith has sought to remain with one another in prayer during these difficult times. You may find the list here: http://www.usccb.org/coronavirus In the days ahead, we will update this page as we find and you share additional resources. USCCB Public Affairs and Episcopal Resources teams are partnering also with the Office of Divine Worship, the Office of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, and other Conference colleagues to develop new resources to help the faithful in our home prayer. These are being prepared for Catholic Current. Those resources are here: https://catholiccurrent.org/covid19/
