SURVEY CONCLUSIONS AND THE NEXT STEP
Many thanks to Rick Stermole and R.O. Writer for sponsoring our March meeting and bringing Mike Chaney and Stephen Nietsch to Houston to speak. Mike is the local R.O. representative so if your are interested about their products, reach out to him.
See Rick’s summary on page 4.
MARCH MEETING
Steve did most of the presentation and spoke on the topic, “Communicate to Win.” His talk detailed the process of using text messages to communicate job status and other information to the customer, and, improve communication between service writer and the technician.
During the first quarter of 2019, we ran a survey to determine preferences in ASA procedures and how we could save some expenses in our operating funds.
During the March meeting, I handed out another survey to those in attendance to begin determining the exact preferences pertaining to the above two conclusions. The first survey was for your opinion, this second survey is for implementation of preferences. Members will receive the survey via Survey Monkey soon. If you completed this survey at the March meeting, no need to do it again. But if you have not completed the short survey, please answer two questions and give me your contact information. Your answers on this survey will determine how you will receive your Shop Talk and the meeting notices. We want to make it easier
for the membership to receive the newsletter and meeting notices and can customize some lists to make that happen. Even though it is more time consuming on the front end, I am willing to try this to increase participation and give better communication to the membership.
Shop Talk Delivery
If we do not hear from a member, the default delivery method will be via MailChimp in the same manner we have been using. With MailChimp, the main newsletter stories are highlighted with a link to the newsletter posted on the website.
C Many members would prefer receiving electronic meeting notices, either by email or text message, rather than a phone call.
C There are a lot of members that would rather receive our monthly newsletter, Shop Talk, in ways other than U.S. Mail. Implementing various delivery alternatives will enable us to cut back on printed copies and mailing costs.
A couple of conclusions have been drawn:

“COMMUNICATE TO WIN”
Communication with your customers has never been easier. R.O. Writer's DVI (digital vehicle inspection) solution is an
important tool in accomplishing that goal. Plus, communication helps drive car counts, ARO's and increases Customer Trust.
As an auto repair shop, it is essential you communicate with your clients, especially those with maintenance or repairs that take a long time to complete. Send your clients transactional messages and updates on their repair so they remain in the loop. Text messages have a high open rate and are typically opened within just a few minutes of receipt. Take advantage of this to relate to your customers when an item has arrived, and they need to come in to install it, when their repair is complete, or other updates on the service.
Don't just tell a customer about the issue; send them an inspection report generated with tech notes, recommendations, and images. This creates transparency and increases trust in the process.
R.O.Writer's DVI helps shops across the country better communicate within the shop via push notifications between techs and service writers as well as provides a tool to communicate with your customers throughout the repair order process.

We are a family owned and operated auto parts supply company that is part of a national organization dedicated to providing the best parts at the best price. Our owners work in the business as well as on it because our success relies on your success. Our national organization provides superior parts support since we tend to see trends and issues before most.
We specialize in direct fit catalytic convertors, AC systems, radiators, condensers, fan assemblies, fuel components, charge air coolers, intercoolers and a full line of heavy duty cooling and AC parts.
We have superior technological tools at our disposal as well as an entire team that just tracks part performance looking for those trends. We give the customer exceptional service and we stand behind our products. We strive to be their parts partner and not a parts exchanger. We look forward to earning your business.
e have 3 locations in Houston. Barry Wand Matt have owned their 2 locations since 2006. Harry, Eric
and Nick purchased the North location in 2018.
What we provide to our partners is “Relationships and Accountability.” The auto parts industry is like most wholesale businesses where a company buys the parts, stores them, lets the customers know they have the product and then delivers the product when a customer's calls in. In that model of business the value is added at the point of sale and more importantly after the sale.
How we add value to the products we carry is that we don't sign buying agreements with the suppliers so we buy the best parts with the lowest warranty rates. We track every part sold nationally and when we spot a trend we pull those parts from our shelves and work with the manufacturer to fix what issue there might be and we will not carry those parts until the issue is resolved.
Meeting will be sponsored by:

One last note. We are still in need of three meeting sponsors for 2019. You can provide a speaker or if you don’t have a speaker we will see what we can do to provide a speaker. Meeting sponsorship is $600. If two companies want to combine and sponsor a meeting, that can be arranged. We also need 2-3 co-sponsors for our Christmas Gathering.
The default notices will be the MailChimp Meeting Notice with a direct response link via email to ASA.
Another proposed method of meeting notice delivery is via Text Message. I have begun building a database of members that would prefer to receive text messages and the ability to respond via text to RSVP. I am researching several companies that offer this service and evaluating fees and reliability. I hope to implement this option by the May or June meeting.
When requested, the newsletter will continued to be mailed via U.S. Mail.
The alternative that will always be available will be having the newsletter available at the Chapter meeting. We will always have a supply on the information table for you to pick-up.
Meeting Notice Delivery
When requested, the newsletter will be sent directly to the member with a full newsletter pdf attachment. This does require sending a larger (3-5 megs) file as an attachment. There could be problems associated with this method: many company servers will not allow an attachment that large to be included and/or slower data speeds may take a long time to download.
We will also continue phone calls unless someone requests an alternative contact method. Stephanie will continue to make those calls. If she talks to you personally, she can make your reservation. If she has to leave a message, we ask you to use the links in the MailChimp Meeting notice or Shop Talk to complete your RSVP.
The Non-Members will not be called. If a non-member wants to attend meeting, please RSVP through MailChimp,
Shop Talk, or directly to ASA email: [email protected].
NOTE: Regardless of how you receive a meeting notice, it is imperative that members do two things: 1) RSVP if they intend to attend meeting with number of people from their organization. We need an accurate head-count so we can reserve the right number of dinners. 2) Show-up at meeting if you have reserved. No-shows cost us money!
