Hello Friendly Quilters,
Hello Friends,
Have you been out working in the yard? Well, I started yesterday and today I am feeling the results of a long winter of little
activity. Have you ever noticed how it now takes twice as long to do things that used to be so easy? I don’t know about you
but I really don’t like it. Grumble, grumble.
For those of you who stayed last month for our program on Ergonomics, did you find it helpful for your aches and pains from
quilting? I found Kari Redding, Occupational Therapist from Montrose In Motion Therapy, to be a great and energetic
source of information. She also offered a very helpful hand out explaining in depth what she presented to our group which
included many options to help your issues.
Many thanks to Suzanne for bringing this program to our group. Great effort as usual.
Get ready for our April Birthday Month and remember to bring your sewing supplies for the Sew in for Caring Quilts. But
prior to that we will partake in a yummy birthday cake from the multi-talented Sue Sharman. If you have not experienced
Sue’s baking delights, get ready for a wonderful treat.
I am delighted to announce that the ‘Pioneer Hall” has been reserved for the year 2020 for our Guild meetings. The contract
is in the works. Emily Sanchez, the Montrose County Fairgrounds Program Manager has been a delight to work with and the
price of $75 per day will continue.

Friendship Quilters of Western Colorado Guild Meeng

The meeting was called to order by Ginny Frame, President. There were 46 members and 6 guests present. Ginny wel-comed each guest. Two classes at Montrose Center for the Arts were announced: Making Prayer Flags and Improving Drawing Skills.
BCQS Raffle Quilt --Peggy Maynes announced that our members are really selling tickets. She thanked us and re-minded us that the profit from this raffle pays for the Pavilion rental and is very important. The quilt will be displayed at the Women’s Club Flea Market on April 5&6. Members are encouraged to sign up to sell tickets.
Membership – Melody Pozerel announced that we have 78 members. Ginny named several long time members who are no longer able to come to our guild meetings. They are Myrtle Hogue, Ludene Smith, Lucy Grosjan, and Sue Peters We were encouraged to send them notes and cards to let them know they are missed.
Committee Reports
Newsletter – Jan Daoust asked that information be submitted by April 8 so she can meet her scheduled publication date of two weeks before the guild meeting.
Caring Quilts—Shana reported that in January there were 11 quilts received which were donated to Life Choices (1), Dolphin House (3), Cancer Center (3), Community Options (2), and 2 to Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP). Two sheet sets and pillows. were donated to SHP. There are Caring Quilt Kits and backings available today. At the April FQWC meeting there will be the traditional Sew In for Caring Quilts with kits and batting available. Shana encouraged each member to donate at least one quilt per year and listed the locations where our donations are taken.
Library –No report
Mystery Quilt – No report
Sunshine – Susie Quesnel sent cards to Myrtle Hogue, thinking of you; Laura McCurdy, back surgery; Carol Gericke, shoulder surgery and Ginny Frame, bronchitis. We are encouraged to notify Susie if there is a need to send cards.
Publicity – Karla Gilbert announced that there are postcards for the quilt show on the sign in table. These include the schedule of education classes and the web site for more details. She has the order forms for the unofficial uniform, a polo shirt, with many color choices. Please let her know soon if you want to order a shirt. All new members are asked to have their pictures taken today for the Member Directory.
Quilts of Valor – Sue Palmer reminded us that the Open Sewing Day is on April 9 at Cimarron Creek Community Center. QOV quilts are made for any military veterans to thank them for their service.
BCQS Board Meeting – March 16. Quilt show entries are coming in slowly. An application with picture with di-mensions will suffice right now. The Boutique is receiving items now. Give them to Elizabeth Binder or Suzanne Hebert. Raffle ticket sales are going well, at the level of total sales from last year. Cookies have been ordered. Judges for the 2020 show have been contacted. Tickets for quilt show classes are available now. There

will be NO refunds. Peggy King is the contact person for tickets and other information. The contract for 2020 show has been signed and the deposit of $650 has been paid. In order to expedite check in and pick up of quilts a new pro-cedure is planned. You will receive a card at check in that explains this process and must be kept for pickup at the show.
BCQS Education –Classes listed and registration forms are available online at blackcanyonquiltshow.com. Registra-tions are being received so be sure to sign up for those you want to attend.
Quilts Hanging -- Hope West – Leah Morgan reported that Judy Clay’s quilt will move from the library (last month) to Hope West. Library -- Gail Fox reported that a quilt by Millie Buss, Spring at Last, will be on display.
Sharing Ministry – Pat Huff will take donations of non-perishables and cash any time and will have her trunk open in April to take donations. There is always a need for new socks, any size.
Chinle – Sue Sharman hopes to go back in mid-April. She will be working with the Navajo ladies to make quillows.
Treasurers Report – Bank balance began at $6385.61, with income of $859.00 and expenses of $342.65 leaving a balance of $6901.96.
Program – Suzanne reminded us that April is our Birthday Month with a Sew In for Caring Quilts or for the BCQS Boutique. Sue Sharman will make our birthday cake. The BCQS Boutique needs more donations. Our program in
May will be by Melody Maskus with a 1 ½ day class on May 23 and 24. It will be an Introduction to Judy Niemeyer Paper Piecing Techniques. There is no limit to the class size. Registration fee includes a kit in a choice of fabrics for 4 placemats. The students will provide their own batting and backing. Cost for members is $33 and $38 for nonmem-bers. We can sign up at March and April guild meetings. Cindy Holman brought samples of fabric postcards she will teach at the August guild meeting. These can be sent through the mail if hand cancelled at the Post Office. Our pro-gram today is by Kari Reddin, Occupational Therapist at In Motion Therapy. She will discuss Joint Protection and Er-gonomic Education for Quilters.
The next FQWC Board Meeting will be on Thursday, April 4 at the home of Karla Gilbert.
The next FQWC guild meeting will be Thursday, April 25 at Friendship Hall.
