Scripture: Matthew 26:59-28:10

Christianity’s highest day of the year is Resurrection

Sunday. Christianity rests on the foundation that Christ died

and was resurrected. Celebrating His resurrection not only

reminds us of the price He paid for us on the cross, but the

greatest gift He made available to us - eternal life. Truth told,

we are Easter people living in a Good Friday world.

What happened in the days leading up to the

resurrection? It all started when Judas, one of Christ’s trusted

disciples, decided to betray Him for 30 pieces of silver. His

act of betrayal set into motion events which can only be

described as shocking. Good Friday is known as the day of

suffering. It was Christ’s suffering which led to our salvation.

world is full of suffering, questioning, unfairness, trouble,

mistakes, hurts, losses, and grief. It is a world of self-

centeredness. A world of deceit and pain. A Good Friday

world is a world of fear and shame. A Good Friday world

contains the unknown – the "what ifs" and all the doubts.

Yes, we live in a Good Friday world, and we are faced

with all of the things a Good Friday world holds. But, we are

still Easter People. What are Easter People? We are people

who live in a Good Friday world as "visitors." The writer of

Hebrews calls people of faith strangers and pilgrims on the

earth. Easter people are strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

(Heb. 11:13)

When Jesus was arrested, His disciples responded the way

people living in a Good Friday world would. They ran for their

lives. The disciples knew of the suffering and crucifixion of

their leader and went into hiding. All of the emotions of a

Good Friday world went through them. They were afraid of

being killed. They questioned what had happened and what

it meant. They had lost their friend and leader. They were in

grief and experienced great anxiety for their future. (continued on Page 2)

But something happened. Something had taken place which would change their

lives forever. Although they lived in a Good Friday world, they would become what

we are today – Easter People.

Early on Sunday morning, Jesus revealed the fact He had gotten up and left the

grave. He was alive and well. When the disciples first heard about it, some had a

hard time believing it. They were still operating according to the standards of a Good

Friday world. After Jesus appeared to them, after they saw He was alive and well,

and after they had been filled with the Holy Spirit, they were no longer afraid. They

were no longer willing to remain in hiding. They had work to do and were going to go

out and get it done.

Although they were still living in a Good Friday world, they had become Easter

People. Easter People living in a Good Friday world.

We remember His suffering on Good Friday, but we praise God for His resurrection

on Sunday morning. We are Easter People. Because of Christ’s resurrection, we now

have life and we have it more abundantly. While we are here, living in a Good Friday

world filled with pain, suffering, doubts, and fears, we should live as Easter People.

Easter People have a reason to praise God, even in the midst of all of their

circumstances. Easter People can give God praise, and they understand this is all

temporary. Easter People know that, although there may be times when we are

suffering, it will not last forever.

There are pains we will experience. There are troubles we will have. There will be

days filled with doubt.

There will be times when there is darkness all around us. But, through it all, we are

Easter People.

When you are feeling bad, when life goes wrong, when you have doubts and

you’re not sure which way to turn, remember you are an Easter Person. When all of

your friends and family turn their backs on you and you start thinking you’re all alone

in the world, remember you are an Easter Person because the Son rose from the

dead.

You are an Easter Person! Don’t forget this as you continue living in a Good Friday

world.

Prayer: Father God, we thank you for Your Son who is made real to us through the

Holy Spirit. We are now pilgrims in this world. We are Your Easter People living in a

Good Friday world. Help us to lead others into a relationship with You. In Your name,

we pray. Amen.

The Door Village United

Methodist Women meet the 3rd

Monday of each month. The April

meeting will be Apr 16 at 7 pm in

the parlor. All women of the church

are invited. We’re selling tickets for

the May 5th Beef & Noodle Dinner.

Can you help by selling tickets?

School bags We need donations of food for the Kingsbury kids’ food bags that they take home on the weekend. Many do not have enough to eat and this helps them to get needed nourishment (we hope). Donations of peanut butter, jelly, canned Spaghetti-O’s, ravioli, mac and cheese, cups of fruit, granola bars, cereal bars and whatever else you would care to donate can be taken up to the food pantry on the second floor of the church. The black shelves are marked for the kids’ food bags. Thank you, church family, for helping us to be a blessing to the children of our community!
