President’s Corner

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been reflecting on my "quilting journey". When I was thinking about retirement, one of my goals was to learn how to quilt. And now, 3 years later, I can say that I have accomplished my goal. Not to say that I do not have a lot to learn, but I am proud of my accomplishments so far. What I thought was going to be a hobby has become a passion. I go to bed each night thinking about the quilt that I am working on, what I can accomplish the next day, what gifts I can make and so on. And if I am not able to quilt for several days - due to life's chores - I get grumpy. And then I close the door to my quilting space, start to sew, and all is right with the world once again.

Thank you again,

Alison Parks

Minutes of the March 5 Guild Meeting

President Alison Parks opened our meeting. There were 52 members present, 1 new member and 2 visitors. The February minutes were approved as presented. Alison reminded members that we are still looking for a replacement for Ruth Baggs as Vice President.

Ruth gave Vice President’s report. She shared a sample for the April program and workshop. Alison also gave an update on the program schedule. Our May program will be a presentation from Selah Freedom. This organization is a charity we will be supporting. Come to our May meeting to hear more about the way this organization is helping our com-munity.

Our Community Service volunteers donated 29 cat mats and 44 dog beds. They have many quilt tops that are waiting to be completed. If you enjoy the quilting part of the process, please see Rose, Janice or Sheila. They would love to send you home with some tops. All of these can be done on a domestic machine. This is a great way to practice those skills.

Our 2020 Quilt Show will be here before we know it. What area would you like to chair for our next show? Let us hear from you as we begin to look to the future. Alison shared our treasurer’s report for the 2018 show, explaining the comparison from the 2016 show. The big factor was the community event, which caused heavy traffic in the area. Carol is work-ing on a date that will not conflict with this event in the future.

Thank you, Robin Fouraker, for volunteering to take over as photographer of our Show and Tell. We enjoy seeing everyone’s beautiful work and having it displayed on our website.

Members enjoyed a program by Bonnie Langenfeld.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Fickey

We need a cottage-group coordinator. Contact any

board member for information or to volunteer! Cottage groups mean fellowship, friendship, and

accomplishment! We would like to encourage our snow-bird members to form a cottage group which will meet

during the fall and winter months, so contact Alison Parks if you’d like to be a part of that group! Your cottage group should be mostly members but can

include others—think of it as a recruiting tool!

We meet to work on quilts on the third Friday of the month at the Salvation Army at 10 am. Please come join us for quilting and fun while making a difference for our community. We support organizations like the Salvation Army, Guardians ad litem, Humane Society, Selah Freedom, and Hope Family Services. Last month, the group made 71 dog beds. Over 50 doggie bandanas and 17 cat mats were made previ-ously and donated with the dog beds. To continue creating this avalanche of support for our four-legged friends, we need more members at the next event—we need your support! The next workshop is on April 3 from 10:00 to 2:00 at the Humane So-ciety, 2515 14th St. West in Bradenton. Even one hour will help greatly! Again, the committee thanks you for all you do.
