Dear members,
We’re happy to bring the April issue of your eNewsletter to you mid-way into this busy month here at the Rowan office in Yorkshire. The team is very much enjoying our ongoing Kaffe Fassett Knit Along, at the same time as finishing photo shoots for the next Rowan Magazine, issue 62.
This edition, we talk to retailer Umgarnt in Germany about their fabulous Brandon Mably event, coming soon, and take a look at our inspirational flagship store Liberty, in London.
We also bring you our top picks of summer knits and bring you news of the Knitting & Stitching Show in Edinburgh later this month. Finally, don’t miss your new and exclusive free pattern, a pretty and feminine, short-sleeved top in Softyak DK.
We hope you have a lovely Easter break and enjoy the new issue.

We take a look at the history behind the home of Rowan’s flagship store – the place to see all of our new collections and yarns first hand.
History, heritage and tradition are immediately apparent as soon as you cross the threshold of the famous Liberty department store, nestled in the bustling climes of Regent Street, London.
In 1875, an astute Arthur Lasenby Liberty took out a loan to purchase half of 218a Regent Street, and transformed it into a store complete with three dedicated staff. As a devotee to fashion and homeware, Liberty was determined to bring his vision of a new look inspired by an Eastern Bazaar to the UK – and he certainly succeeded in doing so.
By 1884, Arthur Liberty was setting himself the task of challenging the fashion icons of Paris, by working with Costume Society founder Edward William Godwin to create luxurious in-house apparel.
Tudor-like in style, the magnificence of the Liberty building is clear to be seen at its location on Great Marlborough Street. Today, the store’s rich history and values continue to be reflected in the products it offers, with fashion and trends being at the core of the range. As Rowan’s modern day flagship store, our department offers every single shade in every one of our yarns. We also have a brand new team, on hand
to help out with any queries or questions, and a wide variety of shop floor classes and events ongoing throughout the year.
The department also offers a selection of Freespirit and Rowan Fabrics. Printed cotton collections by Nel Whatmore, Shell Rummel and Tula Pink sit alongside Kaffe Fassett Classics and his new Artisan collection of printed wovens, ikats and batiks. Tula Pink’s new collection Tabby Road has also just arrived in store. Why not consider attending the fabulous Liberty Sewing School for full day workshops with Rowan tutors – please contact customer services for more info or to book a place. Details can be found here:
Alternatively, Rowan shop floor short classes are also available – again, more details are available on 0207 734 1234 extn. 2739 (Rowan Yarns). Also available to see is the Kaffe Fassett Knit Along blanket, launched in March and using Pure Wool Superwash Worsted. We are also showcasing our collections from Magazine 61, Rowan Loves 6 and Little Explorers, as well as samples of Rowan Selects Kaffe Fassett’s limited edition colours in Handknit Cotton. Additionally, the store is hosting a

The Wool Shop, Ludlow – Knit Along To A Story in YarnA retailer in Ludlow has embarked upon a great initiative for charity with some of its loyal customers. They have taken the step of introducing a knit along amongst friends, knitting designs from Dee Hardwicke’s book, A Story in Yarn.
Jean, the store owner, decided to put together a group of enthusiasts to enter finished pieces of Dee’s beautiful intarsia quilt design from her recent book into the local country show, Burwarton Show. The group achieved first prize last year with a hat project and decided that this colourful and eye-catching design would be the right thing to enter this year. There are around twelve ladies participating and, after the culmination of the project, there will be an effort to raise money for charity around the project.
We wish the whole group good luck and hope that you achieve as similar a success as last year!

Rowan has joined forces with McAree Brothers for the Edinburgh Knitting and Stitching Show in April.
McAree Brothers is one of Scotland’s oldest independent family businesses having been founded in 1878. It now specialises in knitting and haberdashery and has Scotland’s only Rowan Flagship Store in the heart of the New Town in Edinburgh. It has won numerous awards over the years as the best knitting store in Scotland.
We are very excited to announce that Martin Storey will be joining the McAree team on the stand at this year’s show. Martin will be chatting to customers and signing copies of his books including his latest releases, Scandinavian Knits and Afghan Knits. Scandinavian Knits includes garment designs for men and women as well as for the home. The collection focuses on Martin’s iconic cable design but also includes some cute colour work hats and cardigans. Afghan Knits is a collection of homeware pieces including graphic stripes and blocks, Scandinavian inspired colourwork and beautiful textures.
Also at the show will be a chance to see some of Rowan’s archive with a space dedicated to a selection of Kaffe Fasset’s iconic knitwear designs from over the years. Designs knitted in Rowan yarns from the past and present will bring back memories of some of those earlier Rowan Magazines, including the wonderful ‘Kilim’ which appeared on the front cover of Magazine 10, modelled by a very young Kate Moss no less!
Please come along and visit us on stands D29 and D20 where we look forward to seeing you!
