Our values are inclusiveness, community outreach, collaboration, spirituality and empowerment. Let us tell you The Health Wagon story. Our average patient is 38 years old. Ninety-eight percent of our patients are uninsured. Seventy percent of them have an income of less than $20,000 annually, despite working multiple jobs. This means they make too much money to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private insurance. Our patients live in desperately poverty-stricken rural Appalachia, where they can’t afford to go to the doctor but can’t afford not to. The mobility of our health clinic means we are able to fill the gap, whether they are inline at the food bank or at their job, we bring healthcare to them. Inside the Health WagonHealth Wagon Employee's Act of Kindness

When we hear the word "miracle" we tend to think of large acts, like walking on water, orlifting a car off of a child. Sometimes, however, a small act of kindness can have a lastingeffect. A patient was scheduled by a Health Wagon provider to have an ultrasound thatwould result in $160.00 charge. A Health Wagon employee felt the need to pay this fee forthe patient. The patient posted this on her social media account: "God always finds a way toshow us that He's listening; that our faith in people and in this world can be restored. Thankyou to the person who went above their call; out of kindness and generosity, the test I haddone this morning was paid for before it ever began. I cannot explain the feeling that cameover me when I was handed the receipt that it had been taken care of. I went back to my Kiaand just cried. I pray God blesses you and I will certainly #payitforward!"

It's important to remember that even the smallest acts of kindness can result in the greatestrewards. This patient's life could be changed forever by having this much needed diagnostictest. We should all strive to #payitforward.

Facts About Alcohol

Alcohol is the mostcommonly usedaddictive substance inthe United States: 17.6million people, or one inevery 12 adults, sufferfrom alcohol abuse ordependence along withseveral million more whoengage in risky, bingedrinking patterns thatcould lead to alcoholproblems. More than half of alladults have a familyhistory of alcoholism orproblem drinking, and

more than 7 million children live in a household where at least one parent is dependent onor has abused alcohol. Alcohol abuse and alcoholism can affect all aspects of a person's life. Long-term alcoholuse can cause serious health complications, can damage emotional stability, finances, career, and impact one's family, friends and community. • 88,000 deaths are annually attributed to excessive alcohol use • Alcoholism is the 3rd leading lifestyle-related cause of death in the nation • Excessive alcohol use is responsible for 2.5 million years of potential life lost annually, oran average of about 30 years of potential life lost for each death • Up to 40% of all hospital beds in the United States (except for those being used bymaternity and intensive care patients) are being used to treat health conditions that arerelated to alcohol consumption Over time, excessive alcohol use, both in the form of heavy drinking or binge drinking, canlead to numerous health problems, chronic diseases, neurological impairments and socialproblems, including but not limited to: o Dementia, stroke and neuropathy o Cardiovascular problems, including myocardial infarction, cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillationand hypertension o Psychiatric problems, including depression, anxiety, and suicide o Social problems, including unemployment, lost productivity, family problems, violenceincluding child maltreatment, fights and homicide o Unintentional injuries, such as motor-vehicle traffic crashes, falls, drowning, burns andfirearm injuries. o Increased risk for many kinds of cancers, including liver, mouth, throat, larynx (voice box)and esophagus o Liver diseases, including fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis o Gastrointestinal problems, including pancreatitis and gastritis o Alcohol abuse or dependence – alcoholism. Alcoholism has little to do with what kind of alcohol one drinks, how long one has been

drinking, or even exactly how much alcohol one consumes. But it has a great deal to do witha person's uncontrollable need for alcohol. Most alcoholics can't just "use a little willpower"to stop drinking. The alcoholic is frequently in the grip of a powerful craving for alcohol, aneed that can feel as strong as the need for food or water. While some people are able torecover without help, the majority of alcoholics need outside assistance to recover from theirdisease. Yet, with support and treatment, many are able to stop drinking and reclaim theirlives.
