Happy April VillageWalkers! :)

I hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather we've been experiencing before the heat and rain starts catching up to us! March was a busy month with turnover around the corner and making sure the association has all its ducks in a row. That being said, I would like to send a special thank you to the homeowner volunteers who have given their time and energy in helping out with the transitional committees. Our Finance and Property & Grounds committees have had their boots on the ground since late 2015 and have inspected every nook and cranny of this vast community from the infrastructure down to every contract and accounting report. Your dedication to this community and the foundation that you all have laid for future committee members has been instrumental! THANK YOU! While we move forward towards transition they will continue to work with management and the Board of Directors on an on-going basis. That brings me to my next topic: Turnover! A few of you have been inquiring about turnover/transition and when it will occur. At this time, we are anticipating to make an

announcement this month as to a date, provided home closing forecasts provided by Pulte are on schedule. Please watch for emails and notices regarding this important time for your Association soon. In these emails and notices you will see important information such as election procedures, candidacy requirements, proxy and voting processes, etc. With your help, we are expecting this to be a very smooth and seamless transition. As always, if you have any questions/comments/concerns, please feel free to contact us at [email protected], call 407.888.2704 or simply stop by the office!

Thank you for your continued dedication

and involvement! I hope to see you around.

Violation ofthe Month

It’s that time of year, April Showers blooming flowers. We are excited on how much the community has participated and coordinated with the association on areas that may need attention. Being able to witness this makes me happy to be a part of this growing community. On that note, this month we would like to focus on one subject that we notice has arisen on several different occasions; “Parking”. As stated in the VillageWalk at Lake Nona Governing Documents: Article IX Section 3 Parking and Vehicular Restrictions, ''Vehicles shall be parked only in the garages or in the driveways serving the homes or lots or in the appropriate spaces or designated areas in which parking may be assigned, and then subject to the reasonable rules and restrictions adopted by the Board. Vehicles shall not be parked overnight on roads or swales.'' This article applies both to visitors and resident cars. To ensure every resident at VillageWalk is able to have guest over without the worries of violating the “Parking” rule, please make sure if you need to use street parking during the daytime hours [6am-10pm] for yourself and/ or your guests, that everyone abides to the city ordinances by not blocking any fire hydrants or access to another driveway. If you are unable to fit your vehicles within your garage and driveway without blocking the sidewalk or if your vehicles are left on the street between 10pm and 6am they will likely receive a parking violation and tow notice. This notice serves as a first and final warning and will be added to the "Tow Log" to be towed if again seen parked on the street between 10pm and 6am. Please note these same rules apply to golf carts. Please call or email us at the Town Center if you feel your home will experience difficulty placing all cars in the driveway between 10pm and 6am while having visitors. We will be more than happy to walk through some options with you to avoid a tow notice being issued. We would like to continue to keep the community as beautiful as it is.

A retired NFL player, published author, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, a husband and a father of three with a motivational cry of “to whom much is given much is required.” Fred Stokes, played in the NFL for 10 years and has been married to his wife Regina for 27 and counting. They moved to Orlando from Vidal, Georgia with their three boys in 2009, in search of spiritual growth. “We said no to moving to Orlando the first time our pastor asked us,” explained Fred, “then three years later, we came to visit one weekend and fell in love with the city!” That same weekend was a turning point for the Stokes family, as they received a phone call about a massive F4 tornado hitting their home and nearly destroying it. “The entire top half of the house was gone,” described Regina, “we would have been dead if we were there.” Understanding that everything happens for a reason, the family eventually settled into their new city then moved to VillageWalk in 2015. When asked what do they love most about VillageWalk, an excited “Everything!” was impossible for Fred to hold back. “It felt like a retirement community at first but we later realized that it wasn’t,” says Regina, “you’re given the options to either live a quieter life or be involved in the many activities such as Yoga or Zumba!” Both Fred and Regina agree that there is a “sense of protection” that can be felt from walking around the community and enjoying the beauty of the grounds. Having previously owned 85 acres of land while living in Georgia, the Stokes know what it takes to maintain a property and appreciates our landscaping company, Down To Earth. “They’re extremely courteous, professional and they blend in with the landscaping” says Fred, “you never see the workers but you see the work!” Exciting moments such as realizing there was a neighborhood gas station, Regina and Fred believe that it’s the little things that add to the peace of the neighborhood and the quality levels of service provided will always increase the expectations. “If I come into the Town Center, for example, and the chairs are out of place,” began Fred, “I would be shocked because they never are and it’s the Access Management team that create those types of expectations.” Fred established “Fred Stokes Foods” in 2007 and good things continue to happen as their

signature item, “Fred Stokes Sausages”, have made it in stores such as Walmart and has plans to be in Publix and The Meat House in the very near future. Fred is constantly inspiring others as he speaks at company leadership meetings and to the inner city youth. “The mission is to get individuals to realize they’re different and unique and to teach them how to maximize it” says Fred. Sticking to the concept “what do you bring to the table and what do you do with it?” this Washington Redskins Super Bowl XXVI Champion, and his family, decide each morning to continue to be a part of the plan of God. “Don’t get too high on the highs and don’t get too low on the lows” is a saying that Fred uses to remind himself, and his family, to stay grounded. Regina and Fred admit to making plans of retiring at VillageWalk. “This is home!” they exclaim, and is reminded of these plans every time they go for a relaxing stroll around the neighborhood.

WHY A FOCAL POINT? Why is the focal point in a room so important? In addition to scale, proportion and balance, creating a focal point keeps a room from being boring. A focal point provides the needed emphasis that will hold the entire design together. The development of a focal point is a natural response to the way the human eye works. Because the eye can’t focus on several locations at once, decorators provide a focal point in every room. Sometimes the room provides that for you; for example the room may have a prominent fireplace or a beautiful view from a large window or sliding glass door. Often times those focal points need additional touches to make them sing. A fireplace may need a fabulous piece of art above it to add color, or balance or proper scale to the room. A sliding glass door to a great view might need to be enhanced with window treatments adding color and /or texture drawing the eyeto that view.

to that view. If you rely on a window or sliding glass door as the focal point,

often that view will disappear at night. Then you will need to establish a secondary focal point. A wall behind a sofa is a good place to build a grouping of artwork that will serve as a secondary focal point. Or an

attractive entertainment unit with appropriate accessories will work

as a foclal point. In a bedroom most often the headboard wall is the focal point.

In a dining room, the focal point might be a beautifully decorated china cabinet, a fabulous piece of artwork, even a chandelier will work. Be careful not to have too many competing elements vying for the focal point. Ideally the focal point should be able to be seen from the entrance to the room, so that it will draw the interest of the person entering the space. Your focal point sets the stage for the rest of the room’s design

What makes a LIFESTYLE community so unique are the people and the activities. Community is an important buzzword these days and people recognize that social structures are deteriorating. Our goal in the Lifestyle Program is to help build a sense of connection with others and to form a stronger community for our residents through providing a wider variety of social activities and events. In the month of March, we hosted a wonderful Family Easter event that included an appearance by the Easter Bunny himself and the Legends Acres Petting Farm. Thank you to everyone who attended and to our volunteers. VillageWalk also hosted an Orlando Magic FanDuel Box raffle to benefit the Relay for Life VillageWalk Team. We raised over $300 and the residents who won had a great time at the game. As we continue to expand our community activities, we are constantly meeting with residents to discuss and plan "new" activities such as Bartending, Wine, and Knitting classes. We will also be hosting "Speed Dating" and singles events so be sure to watch for (and read) your monthly calendar and newsletter for details. This month we will host a free Educational Seminar on Wildlife, presented by Lt. Trusley and Robert Cuskley of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Department. The seminar will be on Saturday, April 9th from 10am - 11:30am. The presentation will be focusing on our wildlife, including alligators and bobcats. Also this month, our VW families have the opportunity to enjoy a special event presented by the Orange County History Center. The event will be a lively 30-minute play about homesteading on the Florida Frontier. This will be followed by a hands-on presentation of some fun pioneer

toys, and a chance to try your hand at making butter. Be sure to register in advance for this event being held on Saturday, April 16th at 11am, the cost of event is $8 per person. Registration is recommended. Our signature event this month will be the Beatles Tribute Band on Saturday, April 16th, at 7pm. This show will be an evening of Beatles tunes, sing-alongs and much more! Come out and enjoy an array of english cheeses and appetizers but don't forget to BYOB. The cost is $25 per person and you must have a ticket to enter the show. Please see the concierge at the Town Center or email [email protected] to purchase your tickets today! Lastly this month, we will also be hosting our Chili Fest on Saturday, April 30th, so be sure to pick up your entry form to particpate as we are looking for 15-20 of the Best VillageWalk Chilis! This event is a family friendly event from 4pm-7pm. The Deli will also be offering an array of craft beers to enjoy with your chili! With May around the corner, be sure to stay tuned for our Kentucky Derby party and Mark Raisch (singer and entertainer) notices! Remember you can always stop in and say hi! Jamileth and I are always open for new ideas and suggestions on ways to better improve the Lifestyle program!

Cheers,Linnette B.

Living with Sandhill Cranes!

Sa n dhill C r a n e s Sandhill cranes are cherished members of the Florida ecosystem. They stand almost 4 feet tall and their bugling or rattling calls are haunting and beautiful. Sandhill cranes occur in pastures, open prairies and freshwater wetlands in peninsular Florida from the Everglades to the Okefenokee Swamp. Florida sandhill cranes are present in many urban areas and some unlikely places such as golf courses, airports and suburban subdivisions. This is probably due in part to the rapid development of their native habitat by humans. Cranes are probably attracted by the open setting (mowed grass) and availability of some foods (acorns, earthworms, mole crickets, turf grubs). People inadvertently put them in harms way when they attract these birds to their yards with feed. Some "feeding" is accidental such as when bird seed is spilled from feeders by other animals onto the ground below making a nice feeding station for cranes. But, some people deliberately feed sandhill cranes. In 2002, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission made it illegal to feed sandhill cranes. Cranes fed by humans can become aggressive toward people. Cranes fed by humans also have been known to damage window screens

and do other property damage. This behavior is probably a response of the birds to seeing their reflection, bringing out a territorial defense behavior (scratching at windows or shiny automobiles). Cranes also are more likely to tangle in human garbage in areas populated by people. Cranes are more likely to crash into power lines in urban areas where such aerial hazards are concentrated. Cranes attracted to people's yards for feed are put at risk as they walk across roads. Many sandhill cranes are killed each year on Florida roads (see photo). Attracting cranes to urban areas increases the threat of predation (especially to young cranes) by dogs or cats. Further, the cranes' diets, which normally are quite diverse, are disrupted when they eat one food item (such as corn), consistently. Heavy pesticide use in urban lawns also is of concern. Young sandhill cranes have died from pesticide poisoning. It's never a good idea to feed wildlife. People inadvertently put cranes in harms way when they attract these birds to their yards with feed. Florida sandhill cranes have an abundance of natural foods (insects and small animals) and they do not need handouts from humans. Appreciate our Wildlife and remember do not feed the sandhill crane.

LandscapingUpdateBy: Chris Skerzsick

Today’s weather could not be more beautiful! Overall the temperatures in March were above normal, nearly reaching ninety degrees on several occasions. We experienced very minimal effects to the sensitive plants this winter, just some slight tip burn on some species. We will be changing the annuals beginning in early April, to a variety better suited for the warmer temperatures. Typically, we change the flowers approximately every three months. I hope everyone enjoys the warmer weather as it is a great time of year to enjoy outside activities before the heat becomes unbearable. You may have noticed the inserted picture has changed this month! Many of you already know these key members of our VillageWalk team but for those who don’t, I would like to introduce them. Starting from the left; Christopher Bryan (onsite irrigation tech./manager), myself (project manager providing support to team), Fernando Diaz (onsite supervisor), Lenny Phalen (onsite fertilization/pest control tech) and Narciso Maldanado, also known as Chimpa (onsite supervisor and crew manager). I spend the majority of my time managing several projects with this community as my main focus. All other team members are onsite daily and, with my support, run the day-to-day operations. Our maintenance team will be mowing weekly from now on as long as there is sufficient growth. We will continue to do reconstructive pruning on many of the soft tissue and flowering shrubs. This may be unsightly at first, but it will allow for additional bud break and an overall healthier plant. Spring brings out plenty of weeds so we will be working to control them systematically as we work through our detail cycles. Your property should receive a detail visit approximately every three weeks. Our agronomic team will be completing the spring application of fertilizer on all of the turfs this month. Turf weeds are abundant this time of year. We will continue to treat them as we work our way through the community. If you have a persistent weed issue in the turf, please let us know and keep in mind that the herbicide will take three to four weeks to work. March is typically a dry month and this held true until the final week of the month this year. The first three weeks, we only received about a quarter of an inch of rainfall. Then all of a sudden we received a bunch, exceeding normal rainfall recorded for the month. I would have preferred this to be spread out, but I sure am happy it came, as we were approaching severe drought conditions prior to its arrival. This irrigation system is very complex, and we experience issues on a weekly basis which affect its ability to function properly. We appreciate the cooperation and understanding, as our team tackles these ongoing issues. Please do not touch the valves yourself! We continue to have some residents doing this and it has caused problems affecting more than their home. If you ever have any questions or concerns you can use our customer service system or contact your HOA and we will do our best to help. We appreciate the opportunity we are afforded, servicing this magnificent community.

We all know how important exfoliation is when it comes to keeping skin smooth, soft and healthy. Microdermabrasion removes the dead cells (which can

clog pores and leave skin dull and lackluster) and allows the younger, smoother skin beneath to be revealed. Skin Care Focus: Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion: What is it?Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure on the skin that is growing rapidly in popularity both in Europe and America. Women everywhere have jumped aboard the microdermabrasion train, making it one of the top non-surgical cosmetic procedures used around the world, and increasingly men are turning to it as well. In this article we’ll have a look at what it is and why people are turning to it in increasing numbers.

What to Expect:A typical microdermabrasion session is fairly quick — it takes between 15 and 30 minutes, making it an ideal midday treatment or can be added to a full facial for a complete customized treatment. Whether you’re fighting fine lines, dealing with age spots or want an effective way to minimize discoloration or other superficial skin blemishes, this multitasking treatment might be a good option for you. Microdermabrasion can also be helpful with oily and enlarged pores, blackheads and even some acne scarring.Microdermabrasion is also known to stimulate the creation of collagen and cell turnover, something countless anti-aging creams promise, but never seem to deliver. Immediately following a microdermabrasion session, skin often feels smoother and tighter.

Make a Note: There may be some slight redness following a session. Skin will also be more sensitive to sun exposure post-treatment, so don’t skip the sunscreen following microdermabrasion (or ever, for that matter). Moisturizing the skin is also a good idea since the procedure can dry the skin temporarily.

What to Consider:Thinking of taking the plunge? Microdermabrasion is a common, non-surgical procedure; however, there are people who should opt out — schedule a complimentary consultation at The Green Leaf Spa. Other than that, microdermabrasion is effective on all skin types , offers a great alternative to chemical peels for anyone with sensitive skin and offers another way to keep skin looking younger and healthier.
