TheCommons Column

April 2014Marshall Commons

As school winds down a few major events will be occurring in the Marshall Commons. First be on the lookout for the Paint Party on April 10 at 10 p.m. on Buskirk Field. The Paint Party will provide the perfect chance to connect with other students on campus. Milk jugs placed at the desk allow residents to donate money to which-ever Resident Advisor they would like to see get pied in the face. The con-tests ends on April 3 at 4 p.m. Two other programs to look forward to are by Ashley Peoples of Wellman Hall and the Marshall Com-mons Assistant Resident Director Amanda Smith! If you are looking for a summer job and need to turn in a resume, Ashley is the person to look for. She will be pu ng on

a program to break down the parts of a re-sume and what fi ts well into each category. This program will be taking place on April 15 and will also have Buff alo Wild Wings to snack on. Now, we all know exams can be a stressful me of year, and no one knows

that be er than Aman-da Smith. Amanda will be hos ng a program of Twister Paint. We all know the fun game of twister and the pretzel shapes we some mes end up in along the way.

Try adding a layer of paint over each spot on the board and you get added slippery fun and a challenge to stay on the spot while wai ng for your next turn. Look for the fl yer on this program to be posted soon!

Stop, Drop, and Sushi Roll

A “Sweet” AlternativeOn March 25, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Drew, An-thony, Jamecia, and Kayla, the staff of Gib-son conducted a program on the third fl oor en tled Laser Obstacle Course. That evening 20 resident from Gibson showed up to par- cipate. Many residents

that par cipated thorough-ly enjoyed it and said they had never been involved with a program on cam-pus like this one. As well, a lot of the athletes who a ended made a compe ve race out of it which made their team mates and com-

pe tors have to push harder physically and mentally to be successful in comple ng

the course. Some residents thought of things like going through it while doing oth-er things like talking on the phone, ea ng pizza, carry-ing groceries, and even one resident completed it with food, a drink and talking on a cell phone! We used these instances to analyze how many obstacles can be en-gulfed in one major obsta-

cle, however you take one move and step at a me moving forward.
