Councils Challenges
Youth Councils is an awesome weekend. Imet the Lord and was saved at a YouthCouncils 17 years ago, (yes I know, Imgetting old!) at Long Point Camp. A fewyears later, again at a Youth Councils, I firstheard the Lord calling me to be a Salvation
Army Officer. My story is not unique asYouth Councils has had that kind of impacton many lives. My prayer for this YouthCouncils is that many more would come toknow Jesus as Savior, those that know theLord would walk away with a deeper, moremeaningful relationship with Jesus Christ,and that the Lord would once again use thisweekend to call young men and women intofull time ministry. God is faithful and Ibelieve that all of those things and MOREwill happen during our three days togetherat Camp Sebago in June.
My first challenge to you is simply this: keepyour heart open to the Lord and allow Himto speak into your life. Keep your ears openfor the Lords voice, if you listen closely,youll hear it! By the way, you may not wantto wait to Youth Councils to try this out. Giveit a shot right now, I highly recommend it :-)
My second challenge is this: Bring a friendHave a friend who doesnt know the Lord?Bring them along! Someone invited me 17years ago, Im so glad they did! Have afriend that does know Jesus? Bring themwith you! Have a friend with nothing elsebetter to do? Bring them with you! You getthe point. Captain Amanda and I have beepraying for 200 delegates, with your helpand by prayer... (in my best Dora the Explorevoice) We can do it!
My third and final challenge is: Help pyour own way to Youth Councils. Dont relon the Corps to pay the whole bill. YouthCouncils is an awesome weekend but it cabe expensive for your Corps if you dont aleast help with some of your registration
cost.. Your Corps Officers love you andmany of them will gladly foot the bill for yoto go to Youth Councils knowing what agreat weekend it is. Help your Corps outand use some of the ideas below to raisesome money to go to Youth Councils thisyear!

Personally, for years I have given the best
hour of the day to the Bible, and now I

Considering our new Bible Reading
campaign, the slogan, No Bible, No
Breakfast! No Bible, No Bed!, portrays
the idea that before starting the day (or
during any moment of the day!) we will find
the best time and place for meditating on
Gods Word, and spend time reading the
Bible with a prayerful heart. Through
exercising this spiritual discipline God will
speak to us, perhaps in a still small voice.
We are then called to pass this blessing
along to someone else as a way of
affirming our faith in the Word.
As a practical step for participating in this
new campaig n, f i rst of al l , every
Salvationist should be made aware of the
purpose of being a Bible readingChristian
through the continuous teaching andengaging about that mission on the field.
Then, while individual Salvationists are
encouraged to find the
best ways to discipline themselves to be
Bible reading Christians, the various
formats or options of The Bible Reading
Plan can be provided or
introduced as a handy, applicable, and
practical tool in every place of our front line
ministry. There is also the option to simply
introduce various types of Bible reading
plans through many online resources,
encouraging and helping our people to use
and apply themselves both individually and
corporately as a part of their spiritual
formation program. There is also the
thought that if we read three chapters
during the week (Monday to Saturday), and
five chapters on Sunday, or as W
Booth did, read four chapters of the Bi

year.

Candidates Seminar 2013 at the College For Officer Training
Northern New England was represented well this past
February as twelve delegates from across the division
attended the 2013 Candidates Seminar: Made to Be
Courageous.
On Friday night, the delegates traveled into New York
City from the newly named College For Officer Training to
attend the public welcome of our new Commissioners,
Commissioners Barry & Sue Swanson (picture top right) at
the historic Centennial Memorial Temple on 14th street.
The Delegates sat in on classes on Saturday and
toured the dorms to get a feel of what life is like at the
CFOT. Saturday night was an awesome night of worship as
the Cadet praise band led us in worship and Carol Jaudes
(picture upper right) performed: The Three Bonnets
accompanied by Karen Krinjak on the piano.
Commissioner Sue Swanson spoke to the delegation
from atop a folding chair! Urging all to let go of the things
that cripple us in fear Commissioner Barry Swanson then
preached on what it meant to be Courageous. A very full
gymnasium at the CFOT soon began to have more and
more empty chairs as many came forward to the mercy
seat as the invitation was given for those wishing to declare
Gods calling on their lives to serve in the Lord in full time
ministry as Salvation Army Officers.
The Holy Spirit moved in a powerful way! This weekend
is one I am sure the delegates will not soon forget. I know
that I wont!
If the Lord is calling you into full time ministry as a
Salvation Army Officer, the DYCSs would love to talk to
you.

The SFOT is
going swell!
Honestly, it
is a lot more
challenging
than I
thought that
it would be.
It's not necessarily the classes,
although they are stretching and
get me thinking (particularly
doctrine). It's the entirety ofbrigade, morning details
(cleaning at 7:00 a.m.), out
Sundays, Emergency Disaster
Services in the city after the
hurricane, teaching guitar class,
etc. It all keeps me very very
busy. Kettles were the bomb. I
stood at Penn Station in NYC.
It's a hub for commuters and
international folk of all kind. I
stood and danced to the "Cha Cha
Slide" and "Cupid Shuffle". But
the "Macarena" is the crowdpleaser. It's crazy what you have
to do to get peoples attention.
I danced like a beast for about 8
hours a day at the kettle. Yea,
I'm pretty much a beast on the
dance floor.
If you could keep this coming
quarter of classes in prayer for
me that would be great! I found
myself so swamped with school
work on top of everything else
that a couple of my grades ended
up taking a hit this quarter. I
need to be able to keep up on my
school work without
procrastinating. P.S. If anyone
wants to send me some Moxie I
would be more than willing to
accept it.

If someone were to pick up youriPod and listen to your music,would you be ashamed of whatthey would hear? Would people beable to tell that you are a Christianbased on the songs stored on youriPod?
If you are anything like me, musicis a huge part of your life. I alwayshave music playing. In fact, myiPhone may be my favorite earthlypossession because I can easily
carry my music collection aroundwith me wherever I go. Texting andFacebook aren't so bad either!
I have been privileged to conduct alot of Junior Soldier enrollmentslately and I am always blessedwhen the kids recite this part of theJunior Soldier pledge: I promise topray, to read my Bible, and to leada life that is clean in thought, wordand deed
I wonder if living a life that is clean
in thought, word and deed includesthings like the music we listen to?
Living a life that is clean in thought,word and deed encompasseseverything we do in life, includingthe music we listen to. This part ofthe junior Soldier pledge sounds alot like Philippians 4:8 doesnt it?
Finally, brothers and sisters,whatever is true, whatever is noble,whatever is right, whatever is pure,whatever is lovely, whatever isadmirableif anything is excellentor praiseworthythink about suchthings
I am not saying that every song youlisten to has to be a worship songor even be a Christian song butwhat I am saying is that the musicyou listen to should never be
contrary to the Word of God.Take a few moments and examinethe music on your iPod. Do thesong lyrics line up to what the Wordof God has to say?
As Christians, the Bible is our lifeguide, it is our measuring tool. Ifyour music doesnt measure up, itsprobably time to weed out yourmusic library.
