As I was looking over Omaha slogans this morning, one that the city used in the 1970s caught my eye: “Some-thing to Sing About”. That slogan still stands true, and this month, we have some exciting things to share with you.

Home • Life • Style sat down with Owner and Hastings native Dr. Jeffrey Himmelberg to discuss what makes Pura Vida such a unique experience.HLS: How was the concept of Pura Vida hatched?Dr. Himmelberg: I do a lot of varicose vein work and have ever since we formed our in-terventional radiology practice six years ago. About 2 years ago we said ‘Maybe we should put a medical spa in Omaha, but make it completely different from the ones that are already here’. The idea was to make it a destination and an experience to be in as opposed to coming in and being treated like a patient.HLS: What are a few things you are doing at Pura Vida that are unique to Omaha?Dr. Himmelberg: From a facilities standpoint the experience be-gins as soon as you walk in the door. It’s unlike any other place in the region. It’s very welcoming and calming. We have luxurious locker rooms for both men and women to change. We have a sepa-rate lounge area where our guests can relax before and after their treatment, or unwind before they go home to cook dinner and take care of the kids.HLS: How about your services?Dr. Himmelberg: We offer a full range of medical spa services. We have one of the few hydrafacial machines in the area. We offer TruSculpt, which is a body contouring machine, allowing for high-ly controlled body shaping in some of those more stubborn areas. Opera Omaha Presents

Bluebeard’s Castle A Masterpiece by Béla Bartók by Amber Weinacht

Opera Omaha will be presenting Bluebeard’s Castle at the Orpheum Theater on April 19th and 21st. Composed by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók in 1911, the opera is loosely based on the French fairy tale “Bluebeard” by Charles Perrault. Bluebeard received its première at the Royal Opera House in Budapest on May 24, 1918 and was originally performed in Hungarian. It has since been translated to English and German. Bluebeard’s Castle is described as a chilling psychodrama and captivating story about the complex relationship between a man and a woman. There are only two singing char-acters onstage: Bluebeard, and his new wife Judith. The two have just eloped and Judith is coming home to Bluebeard’s castle for the first time. They arrive and Judith finds seven doors in the castle that are shut. She pushes the Duke’s boundaries, wanting to open the seven doors as Bluebeard protests and asks her not to. What is behind each door is then conveyed by dramatic lighting, intense singing, haunting music and brilliant orchestral writing. Before the seventh door, Bluebeard begs Judith to stop, and to simply love him. The last door must remain shut for forever. The heavy symbolism and weighty metaphors lead viewers to realize that the castle is no real castle but instead represents the human mind. The doors, then, represent aspects of the man’s identity that are revealed to her whether he wants them to be or not. In the end, the same love that drew Bluebeard and Judith together, also spells loneliness for them both. No doubt, Bluebeard is one opera that should not be missed. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday the 19th and 2:00 p.m on Sunday the 21st. Hal France will present a pre-opera talk 45 minutes before each performance, and tickets range from

Ten Things You DIDN’T KNOWAbout Air Duct Cleaningby Amber Weinacht

Spring is finally here. It is the time of year when people clear out clutter from winter and make everything seem new and shiny again. A common part of this cleansing and renewal by homeowners usually includes air duct cleaning. Bill Hippen, owner of DuctMedic of Omaha, shared with us some interesting facts that we thought we would also share with our readers.

1 Dirty air ducts are a major contributing cause of allergies, asthma and illnesses.2 It is estimated that a whopping 50 percent of all upper respiratory illnesses are caused by poor indoor air quality.3 Allergens, germs, mold spores, dirt and pet dander are among some of the things that can be found in air ducts.4 In addition to allergens and the like, air ducts may also be infested with trash, rodents, insects or other vermin.5 The EPA says that indoor air can have up to 70 times the pollutants found in outdoor air, and that people spend 90 percent of time indoors.6 Many homes have inefficient filters which trap less than ten percent of particulates drawn into the system.7 In a six room home, up to 40 pounds of dust are created annually. 8 It is not just your home that should be modified, but the air ducts as well. Leaking air ducts can be very costly. Home owners can save 25-40 percent with reg- ular inspections and air quality testing. 9 Air ducts should be inspected every two years with cleaning of air ducts performed every four to eight years. 10 Health concerns are not the only reason to get air ducts checked and cleaned. Safety is also a major factor. Dryer related fires from lint build up in the heating element causes over $75.4 million in property damage every year. Carbon monoxide can also be released, which can lead to death!
