April 2013
Dear Women of God:
Spring is officially at our doors…the frequent breeze, overcast mornings, sunny afternoons. Bulbs long under-ground are now brimming with colorful daffodils, tulips, and hyacinth. Roses, pruned back, have begun budding. I have begun reading a daily devotional called “Woman of God…Growing in Grace” by Gail Marsh. The first page begins with “The Lord God had planted a garden…” Genesis 2:8. I wish for all of you to think about God as your personal gardener and to ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes as you see more clearly your Gardener-Father’s heart – a heart full of love for you!
I wish to commend those of you in your units who have led your own unit studies on Poverty, Immigration, Haiti, Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence, Homelessness, and Elder Care Abuse. These and other topics are not easy to study and are not easy to overcome. But, with educating ourselves, listening to others, standing up for our beliefs, we of the UMW can make a differ-ence.
Over 40 women attended the Long Beach District Mini Mission u on Immigration and Poverty being held at Hope UMC on Saturday, April 13. My grateful thanks to the UMW unit at Hope for their gracious hospitality. These studies, led by Stephanie Kimec, a Cal-Pac US-2 and Jeanne Roe Smith, a Cal-Pac Deaconess, were presented in such a manner that we became aware of how these topics are intercon-nected. If your unit is unable to hold studies attending this Mini Mission u was an opportunity to gain knowledge
of the UMW study topics and to join with others of UMW. If your unit is holding a Mini study session or spiritual retreat, why not invite others from the Long Beach District?
I wish to commend those of you in your units who have led and have had clergy leaders lead you in Spiritual Growth studies. The coordination and imple-mentation of these events can be chal-lenging for you spiritually and physical-ly, but the end result is worth it…an in-crease in our awareness of the Lord in our lives and how we can help others.
This issue is full of information about the upcoming events in the Long Beach District: Spring Celebration and Awards event on May 28 at Wayside UMC, Cal-Pac UMW luncheon at Redlands during the Annual Conference on June 15, Cal-Pac Mission u at Biola Universi-ty from July 18-21, and Long Beach District Annual Meeting on September 28 at Hollypark UMC.
I leave you with this thought…”Become gardeners for God…become garden-ers for UMW planting seeds of Faith, Hope, and Love in Action.”
God Bless-
Laura Wilson, Long Beach District

Spiritual Growth:
Greetings United Methodist Women. We have entered into the beautiful, refreshing time called spring. It is a time of new beginnings, new life, new possibilities and new hope. That which has rested in the
ground during winter is now blooming. Let us allow the gifts that God has given us that have been rest-
ing inside spring forth. We have also celebrated and rededicated ourselves during this Resurrection
season. As we continue in our work for the Lord remember, trust God, and believe in him. 1Peter 5:7
states “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
UMW workers in the vineyard of the Lord keep on working, keep moving forward, encourage yourself
in the LORD. Payday is coming. Colossians 3:23-24 states “And
whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Jesus said in John 4:34-36
“My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work”,
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest?
Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for
they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth
wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice
together.” Continue focusing on the things pertaining to God’s kingdom, his rule reign, dominion, power
and life eternal. John 17:3 states “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” Remember to spend quality time in the presence of the LORD,
refresh your prayer life, Bible study, and worship. Lastly but definitely not least remember to pray for those who labor with you, missionaries, evangelists, pastors, bishops, officers and so many others.
Retha Meredith
Long Beach District, Spiritual Growth Coordinator
Prayer Requests: Those affected by the Boston bombing Betty Lopez—Please pray that she has a
speedy recovery from the shingles and for her husband, Al, and family as they
nurture her back to health.

I still would like to have books reviews submitted Voluntarily! The Reading Program features such a wide variety of books, subjects and opinions. If you love books, love to read and like working with people this could be your next path of service. I enjoy reading about the books, looking at them, touching them they're enlightening, inspiring and uplifting!
One aspect of being on the District Executive Team that has not been emphasized is the friendship and fellowship of meeting and getting to know your UMW sisters. I personally have felt much love and support especially when my niece was at the hospital. So please prayerfully consider accepting the position of District Secretary of Program Resources for 2013 - 14. And if not you then suggest a UMW sister!

Hello Sisters in Christ!
1 Timothy 1: 14 And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in
Christ Jesus.
I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the units for submitting their membership forms in a timely fashion. I am happy to an-
nounce that the UMW Long Beach District’s total membership count was 1,749 for 2012!
Thank you, Ladies for all of your hard work, prayers, time and commitment through out the year! We can always accomplish more by working together☺ God makes us brave when we are
afraid, makes us strong when we are weak but most of all he teaches us to be patient, faithful and to hold on to him when things keep falling. May HE guide and protect you in your journey.
I have had the pleasure of attending several units thus far (Wilmington, Dominguez, El Segundo, Lynwood, Lennox, Compton Crossroads and Grace) as well as meeting so many beautiful peo-ple during my visits. I greatly appreciate the warm hospitality and will never forget a kind spirit!
May God’s love and blessings fill your homes!
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should need my help for anything! Take care and have a very blessed day!
God Bless,
