Sue Bell founded Essex children’s charity ‘Kids Inspire’ in 2007. It is a community based organisation that aims to support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people

and their families. Kids Inspire supports young people in Essex, so that they can feel valued and achieve their potential through therapy, counselling and mentoring. Our families can explore, understand and communicate their feelings. In turn this builds self-esteem, increases attainment and attendance at school and enables young people and their families to make positive choices. This process takes time and patience, but Kids Inspire is committed to turning lives around.

Kids Inspire are proud to announce that they have been selected as the winners of the Mid Essex Business Award for Excellent Customer Service in the medium–sized business category. We are supported by the patronage of Anya Hindmarch (international fashion designer). We are also the chosen charity for Rathbone Perception Media, Essex County Cricket Club, Baker labels, Subway (Chelmsford branches) and The County Hotel for 2012. We have continued to receive amazing support from local businesses, such as STV Building Services, E2V, Britvic and M&G, who have supported us through donations and amazing activities over the past year.

She’s on screen in ITV’s gripping show Broadchurch and on stage in Birds of a Feather, but Pauline Quirke still made time to pop into her Southend acting academy a couple of weeks ago. She shouts ‘CUT’ at her hectic schedule, and we talk drama.

exclusive interview

It’s the morning after the third episode of Broadchurch, and the RM office is buzzing about the murder mystery. But one of the show’s stars has been dipping in and out of Essex with a different type of drama in mind.

Pauline Quirke has been touring the country in the stage production of Birds of a Feather. “I’m enjoying it more this year because I’ve got one tour under my belt,” she says. The 53-year-old actress from Hackney admits she was a “nervous wreck most nights” when they toured the show in 2012. The production has already perched at Southend’s Cliffs Pavilion theatre, and had everyone flapping with delight. “We had a great week there! Obviously being an Essex show, if it didn’t do well in Southend we were in trouble!” So how was the Essex audience? “Absolutely fantastic! They were last year as well, it sold out, and they absolutely love it and all the Essex references.”

Performing on stage is not the only reason Pauline has flocked to Southend. Her Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA) schools are dotted all over the country with seven in Essex alone. She has helped over 2,500 children and teenagers unleash their passions for singing, dancing and acting. “The Essex kids are brilliant,” she says after she visited the classes in Southend a couple of weeks ago. And you’ll be able to see their talent for yourself this summer. “We’ve got a brilliant show coming up in June, and all the children from all the academies get to perform,” she reveals. “I was watching the Southend kids rehearsing, and you’ve got little ones of six and kids of seventeen all working together, so it was lovely.”

However, not all the children understood who was watching them. “They haven’t got a clue really! These children are too young to remember Birds of a Feather,” she says. “When I was leaving, one of the kids said ‘Bye...Quirke’; he couldn’t think of what my name was,” she laughs, “but they know I’m something to do with it.”

Despite acting since she was nine years old, Pauline believes you’re always learning. “Every job I work on I still learn something, so you never know it all.”

Out of the spotlight, Pauline likes spending time onthe other side of the screen. “I love The Following,I’m hooked on that,” she says. “There’s also a very good drama called Broadchurch! I think that’s flipping good telly!” She’s not wrong. Starring David Tennant – “a smashing bloke” - and Olivia Colman, Broadchurch follows the mysterious murder of 11-year-oldDanny Latimer. Although Pauline knows how the story ends, she never went to any of the screenings, and is watching it every week like the other nine million viewers. “It’s one of those programmes where you can’t miss one; you need to be with it right from the beginning to keep up with it all. I’m very proud of it,I think it’s fabulous.”

Pauline plays the sinister Susan in this crime thriller,a complete contrast from her infamous comical character Sharon in Birds of a Feather. “I love doing the straight stuff as much as I love doing the comedy, and I’ve been very lucky that I’ve had the opportunity to have a go at doing both,” she says. “When I read the first script, I thought ‘oh this is right up my street!’” Susan is never alone either. “Obviously my dog Bailey is fantastic in it!” says Pauline, whose chocolate Labrador plays Susan’s companion.

The eight-part series creeps to a close this month.Do we want to know who dunnit? Of course not, that would spoil it, but that’s just as well as Pauline refuses to reveal anything (“you’ve got to wait!”), but hopes we will be surprised.

As the curtain closes on one performance, a long-term encore begins. “We finish the [Birds of a Feather] tour in June, and the BBC have got a script for the TV series. We’ll hear within the next couple of weeks whether that’s going to happen or not.”

Her schedule for the rest of 2013 sounds more relaxed, with plans to “enjoy the sun we’re well overdue, and be at home with my kids, husband and Bailey. He’s sitting here looking at me now, waiting to go for a walk!” Pauline, we won’t keep you any longer!

Catch Broadchurch on Mondays at 9pm, and onITV Player.

If you envy her career, here’s her advice: “get as much experience as you can.”

Big bouncy curly locks are a hit this year and in big demand from clients. A hair care tip is to wash hair

every few days, rather than every day, as hair gets used to being washed daily and it strips the natural oils out

of the hair when washed too often.

The most versatile look is a bob, its timeless and always in fashion, you can have variations on this style

from sharp, edgy, blunt and straight.

I’m from Sweden and my passion is horses, so I am a

country girl at heart. I spend a lot of the time riding and at the stables, therefore I tend to wear a lot of jumpers. My style tip would be layering, you can look great and keep warm with layers. I enjoy dressing up when going out, but generally I like a

casual look.

I love wearing dresses, probably because I grew up near the beach in Brazil. I

love looking glamorous with my highest heels. My must have item is definitely my

I’m a sucker for Nike Air Hirachi trainers, they are an item of footwear that is very close to my heart. I personally wouldn’t wear skinny jeans, they’re fine but they

don’t suit everyone. I love desert boots as they can be used when dressing smart but

can also be incorporated in to a casual look. I think that fashion defeats the object when

you have tried too hard. I admire people that are really into their fashion and style

themselves well, but I also think that simple tastes styled well can make a person stand

out from the crowd just as well.

Sally KvalheimMake up artist

Beauty trends this summer are bright colours on lips and nails, and a sixties vibe by applying

mascara with a flick at the outer corner of the eyes. A beauty tip would be to add

shimmer when showing skin, there are lots of moisturising products in Boots that add a glow and shimmer. For the shoots I will be applying natural looks as well as party looks, and dark

eyes. The girls are very different, pale skin and blonde versus tanned skin and brunette, so my

beauty styling needs to be versatile.

Jo SawkinsStylist

The Liberty shoot is very exciting and a lot of fun. The Liberty has such a great range of shops, so it has been enjoyable

styling the clothes for the shoot, and achieving so many different looks to appeal to the variety of shoppers that

come to The Liberty.

My style tip is: try something different and you will feel different, e.g. rather than always trying to match an outfit

with matching colours, try contrasting or complimentary colours that are

totally different to the rest of the outfit. On the shoot I styled one of the models

in a white shirt and pink shorts with blue shoes, but to keep it safe, she also

wore a matching blue bag.

Dr JasASK

I want to improve my smile but keep it looking natural. I want to correct the gaps and have a lovely white smile.

There are two ways to get your teeth into better shape and so give you more confidence in your day to day life. One way is to have porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding or you could have braces. With porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding we can close gaps and reshape teeth and gums to give a perfect smile! This could be done in just one to three visits. If you are happy with your teeth shape you could opt for an invisible brace to close the gaps.

In this particular case Dr Jas placed upper and lower porcelain veneers. The result is a beautiful natural smile that the patient loves. You will feel so much more confident after the treatment; nearly everyone we treat at Perfect Smile Spa wish they had come to us years ago.

Do not hesitate to get in touch with Dr Jas, he’s here to helpwith all of your dentistry dilemmas and RM highly recommend his expertise when it comes to your pearly whites…

Anyone who dislikes their teeth or smile should visit Jas and see what canbe done, you will not be disappointed.

I have had so many comments from peopleabout my smile, those who knew me before with bad teeth and even strangers, it has given me so much confidence.

Thank you so much for the wonderful care you took of me. I love my wonderful new smile that has changed my life.

Save the environment and your bank balance this spring with these simple tips. Just think of what you could spend your saved cash on; a new handbag, or that watch you’ve been eyeing up! You’ll be making the planet green and your friends emerald with envy!

Go Green this Spring

BUY CHICKENS

As with the price of the chickens, what you can save will vary depending on how many chickens you have, how many eggs you eat a week.

Ultimately you’re not going to make big savings, however it can be a lot of fun keeping chickens as well as saving a couple of pounds a week on eggs.

Plus, if your hens perform particularly well, you can also make a few pounds by selling the extra eggs to friends and family.

GROW YOUR OWN VEGETABLES

Try growing your own fruit and veg to cut down on your supermarket bills. It’s easier than you think, and you can do it even if you don’t have a garden or plot of land.

If you have a garden, that’s a great place to start, but if not you can grow produce in a container that stands in a paved yard or on a balcony.

Gardening is also a healthy form of physical activity. It can help relieve stress and improve your mental wellbeing, plus getting children involved can be a good way to encourage them to eat more fruit and vegetables.

CLEAN WITH NATURAL SUBSTITUTES

Replace your store bought cleaning products with natural substitutes. Store bought cleaning products contain hazardous chemicals and phosphates which end up polluting our waters and also are hazardous to our health.

Your own natural cleaning products can be easily created using vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice.

lifestyle

At the Geneva Motor Show, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars proudly presented the world debut of Wraith, the most powerful and dynamic Rolls-Royce in history. At its heart lies hallmark Rolls-Royce attributes of luxury, refinement and hand-craftsmanship, but the new model from the world’s pinnacle super-luxury marque also presents a unique character defined by power, style and drama. With just a hint of the noir.

In profile, Wraith’s sweeping fastback design gives the car its unique character. Bold lines, tension in the panels and a raked rear screen evoke the image of a world class athlete, poised in the starting blocks. Further expression of dynamic intent can be seen in Wraith’s deeply recessed grille, wide rear track and dramatic two-tone presentation.

Coach doors open to reveal a sumptuous interior complete with softest Phantom-grade leathers and expanses of wood called Canadel Panelling. Named after the famous cove in the South of France where Sir Henry Royce and his design and engineering teams spent their winters, this contemporary and tactile finish sweeps through the interior, cosseting four occupants in a space bathed in light and warmth.

The interior ambiance is complemented by Starlight Headliner, a Bespoke feature available beyond Phantom family cars for the first time. Over 1,300 fibre optic lamps are hand-woven into the roof lining to give the impression of a glittering, starry night sky.

Performance delivers on the promise of Wraith’s styling. Power delivery is effortless, but dramatic, thanks to a V12 engine married to an 8-speed automatic ZF transmission. 624 bhp / 465kW is available to the driver while the 0-60 mph sprint is achieved in 4.4 seconds, compared with 563 bhp / 420kW and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds for Ghost.

From 1,500 rpm 800 Nm of torque is available (780 Nm for Ghost), while a wide rear track, shorter wheelbase and lower roof height further contribute to the most powerful, involving driving experience of any Rolls-Royce in history. The car’s suspension has also been tuned to minimise body roll and discreetly amplify feedback when cornering; while steering weight is heavier at high speeds and lighter at low speeds adding to the spirited drive.

However, Wraith is no GT bruiser. Agility improvements have been achieved with absolutely no compromise to the sensation of riding on a bed of air. Furthermore, the debut of Satellite Aided Transmission (SAT) technology takes the powertrain to a new level of effortless delivery, one that perfectly suits the Rolls-Royce brand.

Satellite Aided Transmission uses GPS data to see beyond what the driver sees; it anticipates his next move based on location and current driving style, then selects the most appropriate gear for the terrain ahead. Corners, motorway junctions and roundabouts are all anticipated in advance meaning Wraith is constantly poised to deliver on its promise of performance.

A more polished, effortless driving experience and even better response brings a new, more dynamic dimension to the famous Rolls-Royce trait, waftability.

Advances in mechanical and electrical technology deliver systems like head-up display, adaptive headlights and Wraith’s keyless opening boot. But improvements in connectivity have taken the human-machine interface to a new level of sophistication, a suite of aids that could be likened to a contemporary on-board valet.

Voice activation commands, for example, come with a one-touch call button located on the steering wheel. A destination no longer requires manual input from a navigation menu, and route assistance begins immediately, on-screen and via audio guidance following a voice command such as “navigate to Piccadilly in London.”

Additional improvements in communications come in the design and functionality of the elegant Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller. This allows navigation through on-screen functions using a touch pad that features pinch and pull functionality to echo smart phone usage. Letters can also be ‘drawn’ onto the pad by hand rather than by scrolling through a series of available characters on-screen.

UK prices are yet to be announced, although in Europe the Wraith is expected to be priced at €245,000(Approx £213,000) Pocket change really!

First deliveries of Wraith will be made to customers in the final quarter of 2013.

Gemini (May 22nd - June 21st)

A friend will urge you to take a creative risk on or around the 10th; it would be wise to take their advice. A work assignment will come to an abrupt end in the

final days of April, and you’ll wonder why. The truth is that a hidden enemy has made trouble for you. Never fear; a much better assignment is on the

horizon, provided you stay positive.

Taurus (April 21st - May 21st)

You’ll have to hide your light under a bushel in the opening days of April, thanks to an insecure authority figure. Never fear; you’ll soon have an

opportunity to capitalise on your expertise. For the moment you need to go along with the program, no

matter how foolish it is. Inspiration will strike around the 10th, when you’re at the gym or taking a nature walk.

Horoscopes

Find out what Russell Grant has instorefor you...!

Resist the urge to tear a strip off someone who thinks they are the ‘Be all and end all’ of the office, workplace or community, because things could backfire badly leaving you with egg on your face.

You’re better off channelling all of that restless energy into a creative painting, musical or style project that allows you to show your true flare and individuality.

There’s every chance you could look forward to an influx of income in

the middle of April, but it’s your own personal appearance and the way you portray and project yourself that will figure most highly in all your considerations as April prepares to make way for May because that’s when every move or effort you make to improve your position or update your image will be crowned with success.

One final note of warning, watch your spending at the end of the month. It could land you in trouble.

a Aries(March 21st - April 20th)

Page 35: April 2013

35

Cancer (June 22nd - July 23rd)

All eyes will be trained in you in early April. Be sure to look your best, even if you’re just running

to the store. You never know whom you’ll meet while squeezing tomatoes at the grocery. A career

opportunity will arrive on or around the 10th; this is your big chance to break into an impressive industry. This would also be a good time to take the helm of a political organisation; people admire your ability to

get things done.

Leo (July 24th - August 23rd)

You love exploring places that very few people have visited before. It’s even possible you’ll write the

definitive guidebook to your destination. Getting paid to stay in hotels, enjoy room service, and

enjoy the local hotspots is your idea of heaven. Head home at mid-April, when career opportunities

will abound. A good job related to gourmet food, luxury goods, or cosmetics is yours for the asking.

lifestyle

Capricorn(December 22nd - January 20th)

Resist the urge to suppress a powerful upsurge of emotion at the beginning of April. You need to find an outlet for your anger, even at the risk of

starting an argument. An oppressive relative keeps trying to discourage you from accepting a new

work assignment. Turn a deaf ear to their gloomy predictions and take the job. Your duties will put you on the path of romance in one way or another

over April.

Libra(September 24th - October 23rd)

An engagement, wedding, or commitment ceremony will take place on or around the 10th, giving you

hope for the future. It’s hard to be pessimistic in the face of such powerful love. A source of income will come to an abrupt end near the 25th, requiring you

to economise at every opportunity. If you make every effort to live within your means, the end of April will

be remarkably pleasant.

Sagittarius (November 23rd - December 21st)

April opens with a passionate lovers’ quarrel. Your amour will try pressuring you into buying a gift

you can’t afford. Stand firm. If your relationship is worthwhile, it will survive through good times and bad. Single? You will meet someone special around the 10th, when someone unusually and

remarkably attractive asks you for a date.

Scorpio(October 24th - November 22nd)

Be sure to emphasise your ability to work independently and solve problems on interviews.

Your future employer is looking for somebody who doesn’t need constant supervision. Resist the urge to burn your bridges at the end of April. You need

to maintain good relations with old neighbours, employers, and friends to succeed in the months ahead.

Virgo(August 24th - September 23rd)

Finance and romance do not mix in the opening days of April. Don’t let a lover pressure you into buying

something you can’t afford. If you’re single, it may be because you’ve been selling yourself short.

You’ve been blessed with a brilliant intellect, and need to exercise it like a muscle. Money from an

inheritance, insurance refund, or legal settlement will finally arrive during April.

Aquarius (January 21st - February 19th)

You will find a perfect living situation while visiting a nearby community. Moving into a new housing

development allows you to make a fresh start. You’ll make all sorts of friends and will even be inspired to take up a hobby or sport. Beware of

abusing your authority around the 25th, or your reputation will suffer.

Read more about work opportunities, money and relationships on www.RMmagazine.co.uk

Pisces(February 20th - March 20th)

An exciting moneymaking opportunity arrives near the 10th. Don’t expect this job to be just handed to you; you’ll have to elbow a few rivals out of the way.

Still, this position is worth the extra effort. A mentor will fall off their pedestal as April draws to a close. This is a sign you need to be more lenient with the

people you love and admire.

TOP 10 SEXIEST MEN

...in EssexDoes Dermot make you drool? Or is Mark Wright your Mr. Right? You voted for the sexiest man in Essex, and here are the results.

1HARRY JUDDCOLCHESTER

McFly’s Harry Judd recalls unfortunate pre-date pampering

The drummer and fiancée Izzy Johnston married in December at St. Nicolas church in Hertfordshire.

Judd has denied he “flashes the cash” on romantic dates such as Valentine’s Day, telling new! magazine: “No, it’s all about the thought. I still remember my first Valentine’s Day with Izzy- she cooked me a meal and laid out a heart on the table. I wet shaved for the occasion, but then I broke out in loads of little spots. I was trying to be a traditional gentleman, but it backfired. It was the last wet shave ever.”

Bandmate Dougie Poynter jokingly added: “They were heart-shaped spots though!”

Singer-and-guitarist Tom Fletcher married Giovanna Falcone last year where he sang a 14minute speech over a backing track of some of McFly’s greatest hits.

He posted the speech online a day before Judd’s wedding pictures were published, and thestar has joked the hugely popular video stole the attention away from his big day.

He quipped to the publication: “Yes, he did steal my thunder. I will upload my wedding dance when you do your divorce shoot! No, they were both very special weddings.”

1FRANKIE SANDFORDUPMINSTER

Brunette beauty Frankie Sandford, of The Saturdays fame, has revealed that she would love to work with R&B sensation Ne-Yo after hearing his collaboration with British singer Conor Maynard.Speaking to MTV News about duets, she explained that The Saturdays earmarked Ne-Yo from day one and are hoping to get him into the studio with them in the future: “We’ve always said Ne-Yo! I love his song with Conor Maynard.”

She added that working with someone like Avicii would “be a really cool collaboration. He does some proper anthems, so that would be fun.”

Sandford also talked briefly about the girls’ debut TV reality show, ‘Chasing The Saturdays’, and admitted it would be great to film some scenes in their native UK and she hopes they secure a second series:“Hopefully, I don’t see why not. London cabby John Smith has two homes, two lives and two wives!

He’s been juggling Mary and Barbara for years, arousing EVERYTHING but suspicion. But how long can he keep it up?

When a bump on the head lands John in casualty, his two addresses get mixed up and he has lots of explaining to do.

Crazy concoctions spiral out of control as John dodges prying police officers and the press, whilst avoiding a head-on collision between two increasingly frustrated women.

A joyride of double lives and double entendres, belly laughs and bigamy!

What’s On at theQueens Theatre?

Women in BusinessHello Ladies.

How is life in your business world? Is it all going to plan? Or don’t you have a plan? Really? No business plan? I hear you groaning, BUT it is one of the most important aspects of a business and every one should have one. More importantly, no bank will lend you money without one!

Preparing a plan will help you to set clear objectives and clarify your thinking. It will help monitor finances and profitability, set targets for performance and help provide early warning for when you might need to revise it.

Bear in mind that anyone reading your plan will need to understand the essentials of your business quickly and easily so, very simply, it should cover the following areas:• Your plans and objectives for the business and how you propose to put them into action, including highlighting skills and expertise of staff that will be helping you to achieve your goals. • Details of your product or service.• Your Unique Selling Point. • Target markets and marketing plan. • Your projected financial performance including a cash flow forecast showing how much money you expect to flow in and out, profit and loss predictions and a balance sheet.

A business plan is often seen as a one-off exercise when a new business is starting up, however the plan should be updated on a regular basis and used as a tool to monitor performance. It will discipline and inspire you to achieve, really it will.

Maybe the thought of writing a Business Plan scares you and I perfectly understand that, so look out for ‘How to Write a Business Plan’ workshops coming up soon.

What was it like for you growing up in Essex?Really quiet. I grew up in the rural parts, which meant I had to travel for any good entertainment. But you get a good nights sleep though!

What inspired you to start making music?I come from quite a musical family. My dad’s sisters were singers in Ireland. Music has always been around me. It probably had something to do with my dad playing his vinyls regularly through my early years, as they were the first songs I learnt to play on the guitar.

How long have you been making music?I’ve always sang and played instruments, but making music, I’d say from about 17 when I left school.

How would you describe the Essex music scene? It’s really good and there’s a lot of talent coming out. You just have to look at the likes of Pixie Lott, Jessie J and Olly Murs and look at the success they’ve had. There are so many more like them singing at open nights, and a few cracking bands as well.

What has been your proudest moment so far?I’d say all of it, but a particular thing would probably be a comment I read on YouTube for my video‘Rule The World’. The person said how much it inspired them. When you write, you hope that your music has that sort of impact, but to actually hear or its a special thing for me.

What do you think has been your biggest obstacle?I’d say maybe the comparisons. To be honest, the people I’m ‘compared to’ are successful in their own right so I don’t mind. I’d love to achieve what they have, but it does sometimes stunt you as if someone’s

never heard you or your music, they’ve already second guessed what to expect and pigeon hole you. In a weird way I like it though as I get the opportunity to change or break those comparisons.

What venues have you performed at so far and which

one has been your favourite? There have been quite a few, but I think my favourite to date was at the Notting Hill Arts Club. The venue is fantastic acoustically and Mumford and Sonsgigged there regularly before they made it big. What they went on to achieve is very inspiring.

How would you describe your sound?I get asked this often and when I think I’ve defined it, someone will tell me they thought it sounds completely different. It’s quite tricky to define my sound as I like so many forms of music and artists.

One of my songs, ‘Head Of The Beast’, has been described as soft rock, rocky R’n’B and all sorts.I guess it depends on who’s listening to.

How would you like people to perceive your music? As good music. Inspirational. I hope it’s perceived as something for all occasions, but not time specific like the songs I grew up listening to.

What message are you trying to get across?I’m not trying to get across any specific message, I’m just trying to maintain an honesty with life and what I’m sort of going through in that moment.I watch a lot of movies, I’m quite a film geek, anddo a fair amount of reading so I’m always inspiredby something.

You gained over 80,000 YouTube hits on your new video for your single ‘Rule The World’ in just 2 weeks, which has now reached over 100,000!How does this make you feel?Humbled. You write a song and hope it’s understood and received in a certain way, but when or if it happens, you just have to pause and think wow!The video may have a bit to do with that though, as I think it’s a great video. I have a great team behind me who employed a really good production team.We sat down and knocked some ideas and came up with that concept, so I’m really happy it’s been received so well.

If you could perform anywhere in the world where would it be?The obvious big arenas like Maddison Square Gardens or the O2 spring to mind, but to be honest probably V-Fest or any other big Essex festival.

How would you describe your journey so far?Good, really good. It’s been a steady and progressive journey that’s allowed me to take it all in, appreciate and enjoy it. I’ve learnt a lot and without learning you can’t grow.

What would you like to think the future holds for you?I like to take it one step at a time. Right now I’m just focused on releasing my EP very soon, which I’m really looking forward to, then releasing my debut album. I’ve had such an amazing response so far, I’m just excited to see how far this train goes. I’m not too fussed about awards and that side of it if I’m honest, if I pick up awards that will be a bonus, I just want to keep working hard and build on what I’ve done so far. I believe that if I’m good at what I do the successes will follow.

Kieran Skye is soaring over the Essex music scene. We catch up with him to talk tunes, tours and turning points.

exclusive interview

An interview with

co-founder, Nikki Gordon,

who will be bringing 70 acts across

10 stages for the

newest dance festival to Essex!

So what made you choose Upminster to hostWe Are FSTVL? Is it because you’re local? We looked at loads of sites, 60-70 places but Upminster just made sense. Loads of the team are from Essex and Upminster. There have been military events on the site and other events, no electronic music events and no history of flooding. It also has great access to the District line, so ultimately you’re only 20 minutes from London but you don’t have any of the London politics for booking acts. When you step outside of London things do become a lot easier. More importantly, whether you like it or not, if you go out in London or to any big event, you’ll probably find about 80% are people from Essex and the South who always support the scene.

That’s interesting...Yeah so any of the big clubs, the big raves, they’re full of Essex people, and I know there are stuck up London people that don’t like it, but it is what it is, and dance music is for everyone. I think if it were anywhere else, it probably wouldn’t work as well.

So how would you compare it to another dance festival, say Creamfields?Creamfields is massive, it’s been about for years and years and everyone knows it. Creamfields does what it does and it does it well. It’s got all the big artists, it’s got what I suppose you would call the mainstream artists like your Avivii’s and stuff like that. Just want to be our own thing. I’m just putting on a festival that I would like to go to myself I suppose.

Would you say that it’s a festival that has a good mix of upcoming and established artists?I think that the majority of our artists are big in their own right, but I suppose in the dance scene, they’re the ‘cool’ or the well respected artists, we also have upcoming DJ’s there as well. When we launched, there were rumours going around that it was a scam. Loads of people phoning up the site and asking ‘have you got a festival going on there because the line-up was so big no one could believe it. We’ve got 10 big stages and that’s what sets us apart from a lot of other festivals. There are a few London festivals that won’t have half as much going on as what we’ll have, and we can run until half past 2 - another benefit of being in Essex; other festivals in London can only run till around 10 o’clock at night, so we’ve got nearly 5 hours extra.

Is there going to be a camp site there or do you just go there, enjoy yourself and go home? No, there will be coaches running from the site to the train station plus coaches and taxi’s to take people to after parties in London. They’re still to be announced and there’s a few of them going on. You can just buy a ticket from the website for the after-party and you’ve got the option to go by coach to make it really easy for people.

The only local festival is V Fest in Chelmsford and that’s more of a ‘poppy’ sound. Well I think that with all of those festivals this year, I’m just guessing, but I think you’ll see them change and bring in a major dance element.

It feels like a festival for festival goers that love dance music, you haven’t tried to cater for too many tastes... Yeah, it is just a festival at the end of the day and it just so happens that 90% of it is electronic music, we’ve got Speaker Box with Rudimental, which gives it a nice edge. Next year, we’ll make it bigger, obviously we’ll bring in more artists, who knows what the line-up could be, but we’ve never said we’re a techno festival. It just so happens that we’ve got quite a lot of techno artists.

How frazzled are you going to be a month before? It’s all good at the moment, I think the nearer you get to the date the faster the tickets will go because of the buzz. Over 10,000 people have bought tickets already, and they usually have friends that want to get in at the last minute, so it just snowballs.
