Happy Hollow Hosts Record Breaking Fundraiser

On February 25, 2012, over 360 distinguished guests celebrated Happy Hollow Children’s Camp at the Marriott North Indianapolis. The Under the Stars Gala rose over $125,000, a record-breaking fundraising amount, for economically disadvantaged children in Central Indiana. The guests of the gala enjoyed a cocktail reception as they perused over a 150 silent auction items. After an elegant dinner, the guests engaged in an exciting live auction, sponsored by Earl’s Auction Company.

During the event, the Tony Stewart Foundation received the Hugh W. Frey Pathfinder Award. The award is presented to an individual or group who has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to the mission of Happy Hollow Children’s Camp through volunteer opportunities, financial support, and dedication to the children Happy Hollow serves. Funds from the gala benefit children that are economically disadvantaged or have mild to severe asthma in Central Indiana with scholarships to attend a week of summer camp in Nashville, Indiana. Mark your calendars for the 2013 Under The Stars Gala on Saturday, February 23, 2013!

F r o m t h e E x e c u t i v e D i r e c t o r . . . People, both volunteers and donors, are the mainstay of Happy Hollow Children’s

Camp. I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you, both

volunteers and donors, who have very generously supported Happy Hollow Camp

over the past year. By supporting Happy Hollow Camp, you have helped change

the lives of children in need for the betterment of our communities. Every hour and

every dollar you have given has made an impact on the lives of local children. Camp has started 2012 with many successes. On February 25, our Annual “Under

the Stars Gala”, chaired by Steven Schuld, was the most successful ever with an

income of just over $125,000 for camper scholarships! Thank you to the event

sponsors, donors, and event attendees for supporting the gala. Mark your calendars

for the 2013 Gala on February 23, 2013 and plan on attending. In mid-March we received a letter from Lilly Endowment approving a program

request for the construction of a new challenge/team building course that will

replace the 10 year old course that was deemed unsafe for use this past fall. Without

the support of the Lilly Endowment Program grant this program would have had to

be discontinued. With this support we can now continue to offer this program to

thousands of more children in the years to come. Also, we were just notified that

we have received a program grant from the Indiana Sports Corporation to support

our horseback riding program in 2012.

Lastly, we are extremely excited that the 2012 summer camp enrollment is well

ahead of spring projections, thanks to Rene’ Chamberlain, our new marketing

director who has actively been recruiting campers through new contacts and

collaborations with new youth serving organizations. We are expecting record

enrollments this summer and as most of you are aware, 96% of the campers that

attend Happy Hollow Children’s Camp are on a scholarship. Therefore, it is of

extreme importance that we fund the needs of these children. So far we have been fortunate to have donors that have stepped up their gifts in

support of our campers and special needs. Donors have contributed to the

scholarship program, have made restricted contributions to our endowment

program, and have provided countless hours of volunteer service to numerous

projects and events for the camp that will help meet the needs in the future. We are extremely grateful if you chose Happy Hollow to support from among all

the important organizations with which you are familiar. Thank you for reaching out

to children you will likely never meet. Your support will go a long way to ensure

these children have a brighter future. Yours in Camping,

Bernard Schrader, Executive Director

Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, Inc.

With a $2,240 grant from Christ Church Cathedral Women’s Group, we were able to upgrade our fishing program. The grant provided a canopy shelter that offers much

needed shade for the children while they fish, a new picnic table, new rods and reels, life vests, and fishing accessories such as bait, lures, nets, tackle boxes.

Thank you- Cathedral Women’s Group!

The Lilly Endowment provided a $9,000 grant to improve our mountain biking program. The grant financed new mountain bikes, helmets and bike trail development

for our campers. Thank you- Lilly Endowment!
