CATCLUBNEWSUKNEWSLETTER OF FELIS BRITANNICA - THE FEDERATION OF CAT CLUBS REPRESENTING FIFE IN THE UK
Welcome!Winners of the Swindon ShowWelcome to the April edition of the Felis Britannica Newsletter. We start with the winners from the recent Aristocats Cat Clubshow which was held in Swindon on March 31st and April 1st Many people had asked that Felis Britannica put on shows inareas other than the Midlands and South East and with this inmind, the Aristocats chose Swindon which is more West andSouth than FB shows have been, in the past couple of years.
The good news is that it did generate interest from new exhibitors and there was a good turnout of newbies all of whom were given a warm welcome and allocated a “buddy” to help them through the days showing as it can be confusing for people used to other formats.
As usual, Josie Hughes had done a Welcome pack for all new exhibitors which was well received by all and included a guide to the show classes and an explanation of how the day would run for them.
Whilst is was great to see some old friends from around the area who hadn’t been to a show for a while and to welcome new people to our shows, the entry was a little disappointing from the more regular exhibitors who perhaps thought it was too far to travel from their normal show haunts.
The Judges for the show were:
Angelika Kneifel (Germany)
Francois Millcent (France)
To re affirm that our system ofjudging is robust and fair and thatif you have a good cat, it will win,the overall Best of the Best on theSunday was won by a person attheir very first FB show. Well done to Olga Reut.
Stephane Bernard (France)

Meet the Team I first became involved with cats in 1973 when my husband boughtmy first Pedigree Cat
A Burmese of course, from Pat Brownsell – Patriarca Cats. Thatwas the start of it all. My first show with this little blue tortie wasThe Norfolk and Norwich, where we attained 2nd in our OpenClass, but my beloved Household Pet ‘Snowy’ went on to get first inall her classes that was it I was hooked. I owned Britain’s first RedBurmese Grand Champion ‘Grand Champion Patriarca Perdita’ inOctober 1980 Purdy gained her third Grand certificate at theMerseyside show on the same day as my cream boy received histhird CC Champion Wendele Warlock, there was no holding meback now. I, along with Pat Brownsell, became quite involved atthis time in the red and Cream Burmese breeding programme. Myson Mark became involved in showing under the prefix of Tanmar, and it was one of his girls owned by Miranda von Kirschberg thatstarted the Burmilla programme. I was at this time working as aVeterinary nurse in Braintree, Essex.
I then became involved for many years with the Burmese Cat Club, holding various offices.
Over the years I have owned and bred Burmese, Cornish Rex,Abyssinian, and Bengals.
I was one of the initial members along with Pat Brownsell of TheCat Association which was started by Angela Saywer.
I ran a very large show in the late 80’s at Towerlands EquestrianCentre in Braintree where we had record entries.
In 1985 we moved to Spain and I came out of cats for a fewyears. I then joined ASFE, FIFE in Spain and commenced showingall over Spain and Europe. I am also a member of TICA and WCF.
I moved back to the UK in November 2009, bringing with me 6Bengals and 6 Burmese over the following 6 months as their PetPassports were ready.

You know that your cats’ breed makes them veryspecial, but did you know that breed can also affecttheir nutritional specificities? If you keep sleek Siamese, majestic Maine Coons, posh Persians or brilliant BritishShorthairs, Royal Canin offers diets tailor-made just for them.
Over the years, tailored feline nutrition has accounted for theparameters which differentiate cats, such as lifestyle, age andsensitivities, to help keep them in the best possible health. And it isnow possible to develop specific formulas exclusively dedicated tocats of certain breeds.
Feline Breed Nutrition accounts for each breed’s very particularneeds to help support optimum condition, and is adapted to helpmaintain health in key areas; known sensitivities for the breeds.Kibble design is important too, with shape and size perfectlyadapted for maximum appeal.
Royal Canin’s Persian 30 offers maintenance nutrition for your adult Persians. A specific complex of nutrients helps support skinhealth and maintain colour, softness and sheen in the breed’sbeautiful long coat. The diet is also formulated to help limit theformation of hairballs, a problem in this long-coated breed, andsupport their sensitive digestion. The special almond-shaped kibblehas been demonstrated to be easy for the short-nosed Persian topick up, reducing frustration during eating.
For your Persian kittens, and pregnant and lactating queens, Persian 32 offers breed nutrition adapted to the increased needs of reproduction and growth. A highly digestible formulation withprebiotics helps support digestive safety at these delicate times, and specific antioxidants help to promote the developing naturaldefences.
As Maine Coons are known to be prone to heart problems, Maine Coon 31 helps support a healthy heart through an adapted mineral content and high levels of omega 3 fatty acids, taurine, L-carnitine and antioxidants. Added glucosamine andchondroitin helps to maintain mobility in these gentle giants. And a special large kibble designed with a larger jaw size in mind, encourages crunching to help support oral health and aslower, healthier speed of eating.
Maine Coon 36, specifically for kittens up to 15 months andpregnant or lactating Maine Coon queens, helps to support safeand healthy growth and bone development during their prolongedgrowth phase. In addition, an adapted formulation helps promoteoptimum digestive tolerance and healthy natural defences.
Siamese 38, for adult Siamese at maintenance, has a high contentof quality protein to help promote the breed’s lean body conditionand the amino acid L-carnitine to help stimulate fat metabolism.Special nutrients help to support optimal coat pigmentation in thisstriking breed and a special ring-shaped kibble is designed to sloweating speed, helping to reduce issues with regurgitation.
Finally, British Shorthair 34, for maintenance in adult BritishShorthairs, contains specific nutrients which help to support a strong, healthy heart. High levels of quality protein and L-carnitine help to maintain the breed’s muscular body shape and an adapted formulation helps to support strong bones and joints. The unique kibble design helps to encourage crunching to supporthealthy teeth and gums and contributes to optimal palatability forthe breed.
