Weddings & Events
This is the time of year when Brides and grooms are making their wedding plans. There are wedding planners every where to help them ensure their “Big Day” is planned perfectly.
But, between selecting flowers and sampling cake, don’t over look the details of preparing your skin to look it’s best for your wedding. Special dedication to skin care must begin now to ensure your skin is looking it’s best when the “Big Day” arrives.
Here are some wedding tips to help brides and grooms look their best on their wedding day.
1. Make an appointment with a Board Certified Dermatologist well in advance of your wedding. They can discuss any concerns you have with acne, scars, or other skin care problems. Your Dermatologist will create a skin care plan that will help ensure you look beautiful for your wedding.
2. Start your skincare plan six months to one year before your wedding day. This provides enough time to ensure your skin is properly cared for and looking its best. You don’t want to wait until the month of your wedding to start a new skin-care regimen. You could develop an adverse reaction to some products which could take 30 to 60 days to clear up.
3. Your skin care plan should include washing your face at least twice daily with a cleanser that is gentle on your skin.
4 . S u n s c r e e n i s a n impor tan t par t to any
bride’s and groom’s daily skin care routine. Apply an effective sunscreen daily to ensure you don’t get that “cooked look” the day of your wedding.
5. Here’s a commitment you can’t refuse - a monthly or bimonthly facial series to care for your skin and help you relax between planning details. Your skin will be pretty and pampered and your wedding budget will stretch further with the discount that comes with pre-purchased packages.
6. A lot of wedding dresses expose the bride’s back. Ensure your back looks as great as the skin on your face with “Back Facials”. “Back Facials” are just like regular facials except the esthetician treats your back and not your face.
7. Considering having cosmetic injections like Botox for frown lines, crows feet or even excessive sweating? Or are you thinking about Restylane or Juvederm for deep lines and
creases on your face? Plan these procedures well in advance of your wedding.
8. Have a “test tan” a month before your wedding if you are having a spray tan for your
wedding. This will allow you to see how the tan will look on you. It will also provide a great opportunity to see if the tanning solution will rub off on your dress.
P l a n n i n g a h e a d a n d b e g i n n i n g a s k i n c a r e regimen wel l before your
wedding, are the key to having that beautiful, flawless skin you dream about for your wedding
day.

Top 5 Honeymoon Destinationsby Craig & Emily Nash, NashTravels.com
Tahiti: We get so many honeymoon requests for Tahiti. The overwater bungalows, beautiful blue water, talcum white sand and amazing romantic scenery... and only a 7 hour flight from Los Angeles.... Priceless.
Hawaii: Always a popular choice for romance. Many islands to choose from, with different levels of activities, depending on what the honeymooners are looking for. Something for everyone. Also, the 7 night/4 island cruise has become quite a hit for honeymooners.
Mediterranean Cruise: Rome one day, Capri the next, then onto Santorini and beyond. This is a romantic and stress-free way to see Europe. More and more honeymooners are choosing Mediterranean cruises. After all the wedding planning, who needs more stress?
Paris, London, or New York: OK, we know this is more than one destination. But, some couples just want to see one of the many great cities of the world on their honeymoon. If not these cities, it could be Hong Kong, Bangkok, etc. Staying at a nice hotel and spa in one of the famous cities of the world is quite a honeymoon adventure.
Caribbean Cruise: There are so many luxurious and innovative new ships, many with spa accommodations. This is a relaxing adventure for couples of all ages. Some couples even choose to have their weddings (or vow renewals) onboard the ship - many ships now have chapels - and start their honeymoon immediately. Needless to say, the guests have a great time, too.

Guess who Dr. Ferguson has on his chiropractic table and you will be entered to win a meal for two from Da Vinci’s Delicatessen.
Clue #1: If you have ever watched the NBC show Trauma chances are you have seen him on the screen. On the first episode he had a speaking part and joined one of the main actors running with a patient on a backboard away from an exploding tanker truck. In real life he works locally doing much of the same type of work he portrays on television. Even with his busy schedule he takes time to get adjusted in order to stay on top of his game!

(ARA) - Summer is right around the corner, and that means one thing - wedding season. Spring is crunch time for millions of couples planning their summer wedding, but what many couples don’t know is that there are easy ways to avoid stress while planning their big day.
Turn your dream into reality Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and is most likely a day you’ve spent hours, days or even years dreaming about. When the time finally comes to start planning the big day, you don’t want to cut corners or settle for a run-of-the-mill, impersonal event. With the help of the American Rental Association (ARA) and your local rental store, you can be sure your wedding day will be one that will be remembered by all.
Rental opens the doors to options you may have never even considered due to time or budget constraints. A romantic outdoor wedding is possible any time of the year with huge tents and elegant canopies, equipped with heating or cooling options. Make a statement by skipping the traditional tiered cake and going with something more unique, like an impressive chocolate fountain with brownie or cheesecake bites or an ice cream cart complete with all the fixings. You can even create dramatic scenery on the walls and ceiling of your venue with a variety of accent lighting options.
Don’t break the bank While your wedding day may be the most important day of your life, there is no reason why it has to be the most expensive. You can save money on seating, centerpieces and more by renting. Why buy all your wedding supplies when you are only going to use them once? Why bother paying for their storage and upkeep after the big day is over? Simplify your wedding and your budget by
letting the rental store take care of the cleanup, maintenance and storage of all your decorations. And forget about running all over town, wasting time, energy and money - make one stop at your local rental store and get everything you need.
Enlist the experts Wedding professionals are ready and willing to share their knowledge and experience with you, from pre-wedding set-up all the way through the day of the event.
Deadlines, budgets, guest lists - these are all aspects of a wedding that need to be managed and sometimes are better left to the professionals. They know what needs to be organized right away, and what can wait until later. They will think of that one detail that never would have crossed your mind and keep your budget in check.
Don’t let planning your wedding cast a cloud over the springtime sunshine. Make it an enjoyable experience.

Elk Grove Business
The last few weeks in Elk Grove have seen more activity in leases signed and businesses opened than we’ve had for months. Our company alone has signed five leases and has another four in progress for the month. We have had more activity in the form of signed leases and deals in progress in 2010 than during the entire period of January 2008 – June 2009.
The headliner retail deal for Elk Grove was the signing of H e n r y ’ s F a r m e r ’ s Market (www.
henrysmarkets.com) in the old Circuit City Store at the corner of Laguna and Big Horn Blvd. This 30,000 sq ft store, the first of its brand in the Sacramento region, is often described as being similar to Whole Foods, but with less frills and lower pricing. Owned by Smart ‘N Final, Henry’s plans their opening in the fourth quarter of 2010.
After operating in Franklin for many years, C.J.’s Restaurant closed, but has been re-opened by new owners as Centenario’s Mexican Restaurant. They still have the cool patio for great margaritas on a nice day.
Tales of Internet fortunes abound, but not all are real - we found one that is. For five years, home-based entrepreneur Jeff Chai has been
selling mods and parts for Japanese cars on eBay and has been making a great living. Jeff told us he was ready for a storefront, and his 123 Performance
store is now open at 8139 Elk Grove Blvd., on the corner of Elk Grove and Big Horn. In the same center, Foot Reflexology Expert, an expansion store, is killing the market with great body and foot massages for low prices. Expect a line—he’s doing well.
No-appointment haircutter, Top Cuts, has opened their 23rd store at Harbour Cove at Elk Grove Blvd. and Harbour Point Drive. A new donut shop has opened its doors in the former Longhorns BBQ location at the corner of East Stockton and Elk Grove Blvd. In Old Town, Old Town Café has opened in the former Lulu’s Cupcakes location, and Soccer World, Elk Grove’s first indoor soccer venue, has recently opened its doors. Whoop!
Rumor Mill: Smashburger, a concept of which Quiznos founder and CEO Rick Schaden is a co-founder, might be looking around, and after emerging from bankruptcy Noah’s Bagels, now Einstein/Noah’s, could be a local player again.
Elk Grove retailers generally report sales to be slightly better than for the same time last year. Restaurant sales are on the mend. Even as our state workers still labor less under the furloughs, they’re dining out again. We’re cautiously optimistic, and look forward to reporting more store openings next month.

Weddings & EventsLiven up cocktails with coffee?
(ARA) - When it comes to celebrating with drinks, use your imagination and incorporate ingredients that your guests won’t expect, like coffee.
“Making cocktails with coffee for your parties is a great way to take it up a notch,” says Anu Apte, Seattle mixologist and owner of Rob Roy bar. “Coffee is an incredibly versatile ingredient and can be paired with a variety of liquors and mixers. I save time and add coffee flavor by using single serving packets of Starbucks VIA Ready Brew, a new instant coffee that allows you to mix it directly into your beverage.”
Get creative and come up with your own coffee cocktails or try serving one of these delicious recipes at your next fete.
VIAtini
1 1/2 ounces vodka 1 1/2 ounces Starbucks VIA (prepared, cold) 3/4 ounce amaretto 1/2 ounce Irish cream
Combine all ingredients in a shaker, shake well and strain into martini glass. Garnish with a cherry.
Beccacino
1 ounce (30ml) bourbon, preferably Bookers 1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) Benedictine 1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) Irish Mist 1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) amaretto 2 ounces (60ml) Starbucks VIA Italian Roast (prepared, cold) 1 teaspoon Orgeat Syrup 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy whipping cream
Stir first four ingredients together and pour into a martini glass. With a large spoon, carefully layer prepared Starbucks VIA Italian Roast over liquors. Whip Orgeat Syrup and heavy whipping cream together until slightly thickened and lines begin to form when whisk is pulled through. Gently layer on cocktail.

Preparing your child for standardized testingWhether you’re parenting an elementary student, a tween, or a young adult preparing for college, standardized testing will play a crucial role in their educational future. In California, high stakes tests are sometimes used to determine student achievement, school rankings, district funding, a child’s class placement and even high school graduation.
For students attending Elk Grove schools, the assessment window for the California Standards Test (CST), the most heavi ly weighted assessment, opens in April. No matter how you feel about this controversial assessment tool, it is important that your child do his best. As a parent, there are several things that you can do to help your child to be prepared to excel.
Home-based Support & Strategies:Keep well informed about the testing dates and the types of tests that your child will take. Go online to get an understanding of what types of questions are asked and how they are scored. Make sure that your child is in school during the testing sessions. Do not plan any doctor or dental appointments on test dates. Children who have to take “make up” tests generally have poorer performance. See that your child gets his regular amount of sleep before the test and is well rested. Make sure that your child eats a healthy breakfast on the day of the test. Hunger can detract from a good test performance. You don’t want your child sitting and counting the minutes until lunch.
If your child has special needs, talk to the school about possible testing accommodations. Certain accommodations are available for students on IEP’s and who are “neverstreamed.”Provide practice opportunit ies with the released test questions from the Department of Education website. Set small goals and keep practice sessions short. Be encouraging! Try not to stress your child too much about the test.
Test-taking strategies:Encourage your child to listen carefully to all test-taking directions given by the teacher and to ask questions about any directions that are unclear.
Teach your child the benefit of narrowing down the four choices to two. By only considering two answers, your child has a much better chance of getting the question correct, even if she has to guess. Help your child understand that finishing first doesn’t win her any prize! Early finishers have to sit quietly in their seat until the time has expired. Remind her that if she finishes before the allotted time, she should look over her work and bubble sheet for errors.
Encourage your child to read all of the possible answers before making a choice – the best answer could be the last one.
Teach your child to carefully consider “all of the above” & “none of the above” options – they are not always the correct answer.

Why Use An Independent Agent?
Consumers are well served by turning to an in-dependent agent for the personal service and at-tention that an agent provides by knowing you and the host of circumstances that may impact your insurance needs. Here are a few examples of what a trusted agent can offer.
They know the landscape.
Since independent agents often represent nu-merous insurance companies, they know exactly what options are available in the market. With countless coverage options available, there is nothing more valuable than a consultative agent who considers your interests when shopping for coverage.
You may have a special need or may be eligible for unique discounts that only certain carriers offer. Good savings can be found - including dis-counts and credits on auto insurance for driving a hybrid vehicle, having multiple cars on a policy, being a good student, or possessing anti-theft systems - and agents can help you take advan-tage of these discounts.
They know you, your family and your business.
Every insurance situation is different. You need to consider many factors in selecting the coverage you need. The ultimate purpose of insurance is to protect you, your family, your business and, ulti-mately, your assets should the worst happen. By having an established relationship with an agent, you will be in the best position to select the pro-tection and price to meet your own situation.
If you’re just now embarking on an agent rela-tionship, your agent should ask probing ques-tions and make coverage recommendations tai-lored to your unique circumstances. Remember, it’s not always about finding the lowest premium; it’s about having the coverage you need.
They can help answer questions.
Let’s face it: Insurance can be a complex subject. Many consumers have questions about insur-ance - from the very basic to the complicated - that they are hesitant to ask. But when it comes to protecting your family and assets, no question should go unasked, no matter how basic it is.
Your independent agent has the expertise to answer your questions and can take the time to make sure you understand all aspects of your policy. Bottom line: having a conversation is a great way to learn more about insurance.
They can manage multiple policies.
Auto insurance is the most common form of in-surance protection, but home, umbrella, flood, and other business and personal insurance products become increasingly important as an individual’s or company’s circumstances become more complex. What’s more, you can save by combining two or more insurance policies with one company, and you’ll have one main contact person for all your insurance needs.
Call Your Local Independent Agent!
You Can Benefit from the Personal Attention that an Independent Agent can provide.

What types of businesses would you like to see in Elk Grove and why?
A restaurant with healthy choices for kids and adults alike. Doesn’t have to be organic, but that would certainly be a plus. Something with variety, but less fat and calories!! Back several years ago, there was Eat Your Vegetables! which was a really great place.. sort of along the lines of Fresh Choice, but not so processed. Fresher!!

Independent restaurants in Old Town with outdoor patio seating in an enclosed patio or streetside. No chain restaurants.
There is one business in particular, and that is an ice skating rink. We go up to Roseville and the place is usually quite busy. If you build it they will come. Hockey, figure skating, birthday parties, a place for teens and tweens to hang out on Friday and Saturday night or a good family outing. I know it would do well in Elk Grove. Wish I had the capital.

Kintaro Sushi9341 Big Horn Blvd
Nestled on the corner of a strip mall off of Elk Grove Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive, Kintaro Sushi seems far removed from any bustling businesses that could fill the eatery during business lunches or after-work dinners. Even such, on a recent visit on a Monday evening, Kintaro Sushi had a moderate number of customers at the bar and tables. With a number of sushi choices in Elk Grove, including ever-popular Mikuni’s and more recently Fuji’s, Kintaro Sushi continues to keep a successful and steady flow of customers since they opened almost 6 years ago.
On this evening, we ordered the large sashimi, since we wanted to sample more fish than rice. The large sashimi came with maguro (tuna), sake (salmon), tako (octopus), hamachi (yellowtail), snapper, and super-white tuna. The super-white tuna was seared ever-so-slightly, giving it a perfectly subtle seared taste without affecting the texture that sometimes occurs with seared ahi. The sashimi was served on a bed of shredded daikon (white radish).
We sampled two rolls, the Kings roll and the Spider roll. We were pleased that the rolls were well-balanced, in other words, not overly filled with rice. The Kings roll was stuffed with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and avocado. The Spider
roll included a d e e p -f r ied so f t -shelled crab, a v o c a d o , r a d i s h , s p r o u t s , a n d
cucumber. Lastly, we decided to try deep-fried oysters. These batter-dipped delicacies were somewhat disappointing. The batter was plain and somewhat chewy, not crisp and light as we were hoping. The oysters were also on the small side, so the strong flavor you expect from oysters was overwhelmed by the batter-dip.
The Itamae (sushi chefs) were quiet, but polite. In some sushi bars the Itamae will loudly greet you as you enter, but this was not
the case for us. Our Itamae was very polite in answering questions
about Kintaro’s history. Interest ingly, Kintaro’s o w n e r s a r e C h i n e s e , n o t J a p a n e s e . T h e atmosphere certainly feels
like a traditional sushi bar, but quieter and more relaxing
than a more eclectic sushi bar such as Mikuni’s. The restaurant
is clean and has plentiful seating and 3 large plasma screen TVs. Service was quick, as the restaurant was not overly busy on this Monday evening. The waitress kept our cups full of hot tea, and our place settings included a pre-packaged oshibori (wet towel) for cleaning our hands when we were finished.
Kintaro Sushi offers the usual variety of Japanese menu items, particularly for those that cannot or will not indulge in raw fish. Traditional dishes of udon or ramen noodles, beef or chicken teriyaki, sukiyaki, and tempura round out the list of eats available. The pricing seems average/typical of a Japanese sushi bar. Our tab for the night, which included hot tea, sashimi, two sushi rolls, and deep-fried oysters was just shy of $55. Kintaro offers “frequent diner” cards. For 10 visits over $20, you will receive 15% off your total bill on your 11th visit.
