Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the
power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

Pastor’s Message
This is a my homily I gave here at Holy Trinity last year on this Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday. Enjoy!! Eastertime. The Easter Season. Today is the second of eight successive Sundays the Church calls the Easter Season. This is our annual festival of celebrating Jesus' victory
over sin and death. It is a celebration that lasts for 50 days, culminating on our final Sunday at Pentecost! And each of these Sundays of Easter accents two books from the New Testament. The Acts of the Apostles is our first reading; and the First Letter of Peter is the second. Acts is a short account of how they carried on Jesus’ work, ministry, principles, be-liefs. Jesus presents Himself to the disciples in today’s gos-pel. He comes in peace. Not only once, but twice, He in-vokes peace upon the disciples. When Jesus comes to us, do we experience His peace as well? Or are we apprehensive and scared? Jesus wants abundant life for us – both on earth and in eternity. Do we know this? Do we believe this? Is the belief not just in our minds, but in the very depths of our entire being? Is it in our heart? Is it in our feelings? Is it in our spir-it? Is it in our very guts, that this is true? We are called to witness to the resurrection in our lives. Recall eleven days ago. It was Holy Thursday. Jesus shares a meal, service by the washing of feet and prays in earnest in the Garden. It was ten days ago with Good Friday. Jesus is tried and convicted, carries the instrument of His death on His own shoulders. He is crucified on Calvary before the eyes of all. Jesus witnesses to all what He taught and what He believed. He offered com-passion to the thief who hung on his right. He sought for-giveness for those who murdered him. Jesus continually wit-nessed to the Father. How did you witness this past week? Did we do as Jesus did? Recall past or even present trage-dies. Did you react with anger and violence for those who perpetrated this crime? Did you curse those who caused such a tragedy? Or did you ask for forgiveness for those who caused this tragedy? Did you cry for vengeance and re-venge? Or did you cry out for forgiveness and compassion? Did we pray for the sinner? Like the disciples, we are called to witness to what we know about Jesus. Witnessing pro-claims by our very life, every fiber of our being, what we see and believe. We are called to image what Jesus did! The disciples were called to model their behavior, attitude and life after that of Jesus! We, too, are called to image what Jesus did. We, too, are called to model our behavior, our attitude, our life, after that of Jesus! We are to make these seven weeks of Easter a witnessing to what we claim to believe. We are called to witness by the very lives we live each day. We testify that there is hope, there is life, that there is resurrec-tion! We attest that the powers of death, confusion, distress, chaos and evil WILL NOT PREVAIL! How will these powers be beaten? By forgiveness. By compassion. By witness. Do something different this Easter season. Begin writing a jour-nal or a diary. Keep a record of the witnessing that you expe-rience of the power of the resurrection. Whether that witness-ing is your own or what you see from others, write it down. Keep it as a written record to which you can refer. Re-read what you wrote when times of chaos and evil come into our world. See it as a means of peace when our lives become disruptive. After all, Jesus did many other signs in the pres-ence of His disciples. Not all were written down. But our jour-nal can be a means through which we have renewed life in Jesus’ name. Our diary can be another way of experiencing the ongoing resurrection of each day. Today, the written word of resurrection is to be our lives!

The Spirit of 40 Cans For Lent Will Continue
40 Cans for Lent is an annual campaign to feed the hungry during Lent. This year, this service opportunity looks different. Catholic Charities' response to COVID-19 is to care for many of our neighbors, families, and seniors that are hungry. They have lost their jobs, they have spent their savings, and they are silently suffering during this pandemic. During this Easter season let us all reflect on how we can serve others accompanying them through this crisis beginning with filling the food pantries.
St. Stephen's CARE Center continues to feed the community through a drive-thru food pantry. On average, Catholic Charities is providing thousands of pounds of food to hundreds of families daily. What was previously food distribution for a week is now food distribution for a day.
Help us! Please continue supporting our food drive by donating: · Canned vegetables and fruits · Cereal · Spaghetti and sauce · Peanut butter and jelly · Rice · all other non-perishable food items.
Donations can be delivered to the Holy Trinity and dropped off in containers outside the Parish Office.
or St. Stephen's CARE Center,
2127 S. Zarzamora St., Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm.
Thanks for serving with us!

FINANCE COUNCIL The following are highlights from the Finance Council
meeting held April 1, 2020. · Present: Msgr. Michael Yarbrough; Fr. Daniel Villar-
real, Fr. Mike English, Deacon Oscar Perez, Eric Zeit-ler, Gonzalo Bauvi, Bill Hodde, David Kiolbassa, Tracey Walsh, Mellie Post, Katy Cantu, Michael Bunting, Cecil-ia Greene
· Absent: Susan Cleary, Xavier Ortenzio
Meeting was conducted via Zoom
· Minutes: Opened the meeting at 10:00 AM via Zoom; minutes from last meeting were approved.
· New Member Introduction: New members Mellie Post, Katy Cantu and Michael Bunting introduced them-selves to the rest of the FC.
· COVID-19. The Parish has been operating by provid-ing online video streaming only for Mass, daily at 8:30 am and Sundays at 11:15 AM in English and 1:00 PM in Spanish to comply with social distancing mandates. Because of this, Mass collections are down and the potential to reduce staff hours or furlough exists. There was much conversation regarding the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act signed into law March 27th. A part of the CARES Act, the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) allows small busi-nesses, expanded to include 501(c) 3 non-profits, which Holy Trinity is, to apply for loans forgivable by the US government if spent on payroll, mortgage interest or rent, and utilities. Approved lenders were expected to start receiving applications on Friday, April 3rd, and de-mand for these loans was expected to be heavy. We discussed the opportunity for the Parish to apply for these loans as a way for the parish to keep its staff. Msgr. summarized our discussion and proposed the motion that we would not change anything for April regarding staff hours and salaries and that we apply for a PPP. The vote on the motion was unanimous; the motion passed. It was also agreed that the Parish situation would be re-assessed in three weeks, with a special session of the Finance Council to be held April 22nd. For the April 22nd meeting, Eric Zeitler requested that Deacon Oscar work on a list of essential employ-ees that would be needed by the parish should San Antonio’s shelter in place order be prolonged.
· Budgeting Cycle for 2020 – 2021: Understanding that the Budgeting Cycle for the ensuing fiscal year was upon us, it was discussed if there was going to be an altered schedule proposed by the Archdioceses due to any delays in the cycle created by the COVID-19 situa-tion. It was agreed that while not knowing if the COVID-19 situation was going to create a delay or altered schedule proposed by the Archdioceses that we should assume the budget cycle will remain on schedule with parish budgets entered into the system by June 30th. With that understanding, the Finance Council agreed that it would require all ministry budgets by May 6th, with specific ministry review meetings as necessary, and a final budget review and approval meeting on May 20th.
· Next Meeting: Scheduled ton April 22, 2020 at 10Am as the first choice or 12:30 as the second.
· Closing Prayer: Cecilia Greene
GOSPEL MEDITATION
A person was going through a very dark time, questioning the mean-ing of life, not feeling very purposeful or worthwhile, and feeling disconnected and unappreciated. Suddenly, they gazed up at the night sky, found themselves in awe of all the stars and constella-tions, and exclaimed, “I am here on purpose and I am loved!” Hav-ing been brought by God to this moment of intense connection and awareness, his life changed from that moment on.
If we are always preoccupied with the challenges, obligations, and stuff of daily life, we can easily miss the wonderful opportunities when the resurrected Christ is knocking at our door. If we open our-selves to the fullness of experience, we will find ourselves listening and embracing all that is around us, being caught up in the magnifi-cence of creation’s grandeur and knowing in our heart and soul that God is and I am.
While that sounds like a simple, tell-me-something-I don’t-know kind of revelation, it is life changing when it takes root in the depth of a person’s soul. Stumbling upon this awesome truth and internal-izing it doesn’t require an assent of the mind. It beckons for a claim on our soul. We find ourselves knowing something profound that cannot be explained or reasoned, but purely is. When we are caught up in an experience and encounter the truth, it doesn’t matter how all of the pieces got put together. Truth is simply truth. The “my Lord and my God” responses we utter are not evoked because all of the pieces of faith and life make reasonable sense. The “my Lord and my God” affirmations come when we are lifted up out of our preoc-cupations and silliness and are in the presence of mystery and mer-cy.
God is mystery, one who is beyond our grasp but at the same time within our reach, knowable yet unknowable. And when in the pres-ence of mystery, there comes an intense experience of mercy. We know deep within the essence of ourselves — and in the very life of creation — this beating, unconditionally accepting, life-sustaining, profound, mysterious yet familiar presence of love. We have found our peace. “Peace be with you.” Breathe in and breathe out. Peace. ©LPi
LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK
Have you ever experienced awe? Awe is commonly defined as a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder. A moment of awe has the ability to lift us up out of ourselves and immerse us into something that causes us to wonder about ourselves, the mean-ing of life, and truth. Awe is an experience of connection that links us to something that is beyond the normal happenings of life. For us who believe that the resurrected Christ is present in all of life and the totality of the universe, being touched by awe can lead us to ex-claim, “My Lord and my God!” Pondering the vastness of God’s presence also brings us to a profound sense of God’s mercy, which is the showering of His unconditional love on each of His daughters and sons. When weinternalize this mystery, we may find ourselves standing in awe once again and feeling an intense sense of peace. ©LPi
MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO
“Tomás exclamo: ‘Tú eres mi Señor y mi Dios.’ Jesús repli-có: ‘Crees porque me has visto. ©LPi
VIVIR LA LITURGIA ¿Alguna vez has experimentado asombro?

WE INVITE YOU TO REFLECT AND RESPOND TO SCRIPTURE First Reading According to Luke, the original community of believers in Jerusalem met daily to pray, break bread, and commit themselves to the teaching of the Apostles. When have you experienced a similar level of communal harmony? Second Reading The First Letter of Peter opens with a prayer of thanksgiving for the blessings received from the resurrection of Jesus. In what ways do you show gratitude for Jesus’ resurrection from the dead? Gospel Reading John is the only evangelist to record the episode of Thomas’ initial doubt in Jesus’ resurrection. What role does doubt have in your spiritual journey?
Everyday Stewardship
RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
Give Yourself Completely
The early days of the first Christian community were not easy by any measurement. Jesus had been executed, and his disciples had to be discreet so as not to meet a similar fate. Jesus was now risen, but the truth of his resurrection was not accepted by all. However, the depiction of that early community in Acts 2:42-47 would lead someone to believe it was the opposite situation. We are told of community life where people lean on each other and share great joy. They ate and prayed together, and many wonders and signs were occurring to lift the community and bear witness to the power of Jesus Christ. They were disciples living out their faith, and it was their strong sense of stewardship that made all this possible in the face of threatening Roman and Jewish pow-ers.
Today, we find the Church in a new turmoil. Increasing secu-larism, abuse scandals, and a lack of true fidelity place us once again in a time that is not easy. A friend of mine likes to say that any challenge of sin we encounter in the Church has its origin in a lack or misunderstanding of the steward-ship way of life. We create our burdens by not using our gifts wisely and by turning inward selfishly.
Could we use the story in Acts of the early Church to help us today? If we begin with the decision to give of ourselves completely to God and His people, will we become agents of change? There is only one way to find out.

I am giving you three ways of exercising mercy toward your neighbor: the first- by deed, the second – by word, the third – by prayer. In these three degrees is contained the fullness of mercy, and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. By this means a soul glorifies and pays reverence to My mercy. Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be acts of mercy, and I demand the worship of My mercy through the solemn celebration of the Feast and through the veneration of the image which is painted. By means of this image I shall grant many graces to souls. It is to be a reminder of the demands of My mercy, because even the strongest faith is of no avail without works. O my Jesus, You Yourself must help me in everything, because You see how very little I am, and so I depend solely on Your goodness, O God. (#742)

Christ Caring for People through People On this Divine Mercy Sunday let us remember how merciful our Lord truly is. He knows sometimes our journey is difficult. He knows how sometimes we might feel lost and alone, frightened and afraid. He knows our sorrows and our worries. But he has told us to trust in him. He has given us one another to care for each other just as he cares for us.
Are you experiencing the pain of loss from the death of a loved one, from a marriage that is in crisis, from a prom-ise that has been broken, or from a job that is no longer there, from a child that is in distress, from a diagnosis of cancer of other life-changing illness? Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed by caring for an aging parent or some-one else who needs your constant care. Are you struggling to see God in all of your pain? Then consider that hav-ing a Stephen Minister to walk with you may be just what you need.
What do Stephen Ministers do? They listen, care, support, encourage, and pray with and for a person who is hurting. They maintain con-fidentiality, they attend to the caregiving process and they trust that God will provide the cure with His healing love. We are called to be Christ caring for one another.
So, to anyone who is going through a difficult time, please don’t suffer alone! Our Stephen Ministers are trained caregivers, ready to listen, care for and encourage you, pray with and for you, and help you through your difficult time. To find out more, talk with one of our Stephen Leaders:
John Tracy, 210 215-0411, Norma Garza, 210 379-7874 (Spanish), or Pam Hughes, 210 394-5723 or email Pam at [email protected].
Our Stephen Ministers are ready to care for you! Jesus we trust in you!
Divorced & Separated Ministry
Reflection ~ In The Moment
SPLASH! The cold water now drenching my running shoes yanked me back into reality. I was outside with my four-year-old son watching him play with water balloons. He was get-ting a big kick out of filling them up and throwing them at the brick wall of the house and the bed of my pick-up. Him turn-ing his aim on me came as quite a surprise. Why was it such a shock? After all, I was standing within five feet of him. Because, while I was physically present, my mind was a million miles away consumed with the many future commitments rolling around in my head. Instead of sharing in my son's joy, I was mired down in the pressures of events yet-to-come. I was missing out big time. What a shame. Peace and joy are experienced in the here and now. You can't schedule them like you would a hair cut. They are what happen when you free your mind of past pain and future plans. So often when experiencing a divorce, the intense pain and pressures of that experience rob you of peace and joy. The only true reality is the one you are living in the pre-sent moment. If you want more peace and joy in your life, start right now by focusing on how God is blessing you to-day, right here, right now. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take of itself.
