From the Pastor…
Lord Jesus, open the Scriptures to us;
make our hearts burn while you speak to us.”
Dear Friends,
A young boy was walking home through the park after attending a Sunday school class. Somehow, he
couldn’t stop thinking about the lesson for that day about Jesus’ teaching on the Last Judgment. What
impressed him most was what the teacher said, “When you give something to another person, you’re really
giving it to Jesus, and you will find the risen Jesus in everyone you meet.” As he continued through the
park, he noticed an old woman sitting on a bench. She looked lonely and hungry. So he sat down next to
her, took a chocolate bar he had saved and offered some to her. She accepted it with a beautiful smile, and
he watched her smile as she chewed the chocolate. Then they sat together in silence, just smiling at each
other. Finally, the boy got up to leave. As he began to walk away, he turned, ran back to the bench, and
gave the woman a big hug.
When he arrived home, his mother saw a big smile on his face and asked, “What made you so happy
today?” He said, “I shared my chocolate bar with Jesus.” Before his mother could ask more questions, he
added, “You know, she has the most beautiful smile in the world.” Meanwhile, the old woman returned to
her little apartment where she lived with her sister. “You’re all smiles,” said her sister. “What made you so
happy today?” She replied, “I was sitting in the park, eating a chocolate bar with Jesus. And, you know, he
looks a lot younger than I expected.”
The two disciples met Jesus on their way and had trouble recognizing Him at first glance. It is why Jesus
encouraged them to touch Him, and then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures about Him.
Very often, we are like these two disciples. We meet Jesus on the way of our lives; however, we don’t
recognize Him. I would say we meet Him daily in the people and situations we face. We can experience the
Risen Lord in the hungry people whom we feed, in the naked persons whom we clothe, in the homeless
whom we shelter. We touch the body of the Risen Christ when we stop for awhile to listen to those who
need our attention, when we care for those who are in need. Whenever our words and actions are returning
hope and faith to others, there is the Risen Lord whom we meet and who works through us as well.
It is why we are here in the church today. We want to touch and receive His Body in the Eucharist. This
Sacrament of nourishment, not only strengthens us, but also teaches us how to serve others. Receiving
Jesus’ Body and Blood obliges us to be the witnesses of the Risen Lord in what we say and do. He Himself
told the two disciples and us as well, “You are witnesses of these things.”
Peace and Goodness,
Fr. Peter Sarnicki, OFM, Conv.

By Deacon Howard Fischer
What is your image of heaven? We all have one. Writers and painters through the ages have speculated. Even the human authors of Scripture fantasized about what the next world is like, using dozens of different images and metaphors. So why shouldn’t you and I ponder this question?! After all, heaven is where we hope to be one day! It seems particularly appropriate to ponder heaven during the Easter sea-son when we celebrate the gift of eternal life.
Several years ago the editors of U.S. Catholic magazine conducted a survey of their readers’ notions of heaven. Author Tom McGrath observed the following about the responses given:
Many respondents pictured heaven as a rural setting such as a walled garden, a mountaintop cabin, or a haven in the woods. When asked to comment on the re-
sults, church historian Martin Marty said that a culture’s image of heaven says a lot about
its present situation. Because ours is becoming an increasingly urban culture, heaven for us
is what seems just beyond our grasp – a natural retreat from the rush of daily life in city or
town.
But when the Book of Revelation was written, a nomadic, farming culture looked to the shimmering city as their heavenly ideal. Majestic, rising from the plains, shining in the sun,
the city captured the imagination of the people as a place of promise and joy.
For each of us, our idea of heaven likely holds a clue as to what’s missing in our life. For
most modern families, that ‘something missing’ is peace and serenity. Jesus offers us peace,
a peace that surpasses our understanding. The way to it is simple, but not easy. It’s to love
the people we encounter day by day. If we do that with all our hearts, we’ll know what Saint Catherine of Siena meant when she said, ‘All the way to heaven is heaven.’”
The idea that our personal notion of what heaven is like in fact reflects what we feel is missing in our present life makes a strong impression for me. As I examine my own notion of heaven I easily see that I most definitely fit this pattern. Perhaps you will find that the same is true for you. But does this insight serve any useful purpose or is it just “mind can-dy”? Well, I do think there is a lesson we can learn and use from this insight.
Jesus did not call us to live an other-worldly future existence that is detached from the pre-sent. Rather, he asks us to transform the present world to match the fullness of the next. The Kingdom of God isn’t just a heavenly future “in a galaxy far, far away”; the Kingdom is meant to be here and now too. To the extent that we become so fixated on a heavenly fu-ture that we ignore or minimize the present world and its sufferings, we give credence to Karl Marx’s statement that “religion is the opium of the people.” Rather, as we recognize what we are missing in our personal lives and in the world around us, you and I have been commissioned as the Lord’s disciples to take steps to fill that longing, to bridge that gap, through our love of Christ and through service to his Gospel. Heaven starts now, not after we die. As an Easter People transformed by the Risen Lord, our daily lives must change the present world into a better reflection of the one to come. When you and I see that the King-dom of God has already begun here and now, then we will join St. Catherine in grasping that “all the way to heaven is heaven.”
Of course, all of our notions of heaven are very inadequate due to our limited human understanding. As wonderful as we can imagine things, God’s imagination far surpasses ours. Perhaps the most accu-rate conclusion is the one offered by St. Paul: “Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it so much as dawned on man what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Cor. 2:9) Now that’s something to look forward to! And something to build and taste here.
Happy Easter! Give ’em heaven! If you wish to contact me, please email me at [email protected]

Wisdom: God’s Vision for Life
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it,” JAMES 1:5

VOCATION CORNER….
Jesus Knows the Next Step
It amazes me that just about every time Jesus appeared to His followers after His Resurrection they did not recognize Him. Even after spending so much time learning from Him and following Him, they still could not tell who He was when He came to them. I be-lieve that at least part of the explanation for this is that they were becoming too focused on themselves after the death of Jesus. After He died, we can certainly imagine that they must have been very scared and unsure about how to move forward in their lives. It was at this point that they put it upon themselves to find the next right step, rather than placing their trust in the plan of Jesus. In fact, they did this so to such an extent that even when Jesus Himself appeared to them, they could not recognize that it was Him and that He had everything in control. It is easy to fall into the same trap in our own lives, especially when it comes to discerning a vocation. Trying to find your vocation can be a difficult and stressful thing at times. However, the last thing we ever want to do is take the matter into our own hands and feel like we have to be the ones to figure everything out. Jesus already has the plan! All we have to do is trust in Him. Rather than getting too turned in on our-selves, we need to surrender everything, especially our whole future, to Jesus and simply be calm while He makes Himself known to us. We do not want to miss the Will of Jesus in our lives. Be calm, trust in Him, and always be open to recognizing Him no matter what circumstances you are facing in your life.

Prayer Intentions... The Parish Office occasionally receives calls from parishioners wanting to add the names of “other parishioners” to the “Pray for the Sick” intention that is read at Mass or in the bulletin.
Please note that out of respect for the privacy of the individual we only will honor that request if it comes directly from the individual or a family member. Thank you for your understanding.
When St. Faustina was praying before Jesus in the Holy Eucharist He showed her a vision.
Each time a person entered the chapel and visited Jesus exposed in a mon-strance, she saw His Divine Rays of Love and Mercy burst forth and encir-cle the world and everyone in it with graces and blessings! Through Perpet-ual Eucharistic Adoration Jesus un-leashes His rays of healing upon us, our families and the whole world.
WEEKLY ADORATION
Monday 8:00-9:00 PM
Wednesday after the 8:30 Mass end-ing with Benediction at 7:AM on Thursday morning.

People who are grieving often
find that nobody understands what
their loss feels like. They find that
friends and family (with good
intentions) just want them to get
past their grief and get on with
their life. It helps to be able to share about your loss. Saint Margaret
Mary Parish has a Grief Support Group. We want to provide a safe
place where grieving people can come, listen, and share their stories.
We meet on the 2nd Thursday, at 7:30 PM in the Ministry Center.

Our Military…. The Military Ministry has several purposes. First and foremost, we pray for those who are in harm’s way. They are protecting not only our freedoms but also American citizens living abroad and citizens of countries that are
friendly to the United States.
Remember to include the following in your prayers:
Erik Borchert - Army, Korea; Jonathan Budek -Navy, Persian
Gulf; A.J. (Anthony) Chiappone - Air Force, Aviano, Italy;
Michael Chiappone- Air Force, Andrews Air Force Base; Dan
Halley - Marines; Lt. Jacob Korbecki - Army, Ft. Stewart, GA;
Sgt. James LeRoy - Army, Special Forces, Syria; Steven Nasiatka
- Army, South Korea; 2nd Lt. Connor Spiegel - Marines
O Prince of Peace, we humbly ask for your protection for all our men and women in military service. Give them unflinching cour-age to defend with honor, dignity, and devotion, the rights of all who are imperiled by injustice and evil. Be their rock, their shield, and their stronghold and let them draw their strength from you. Amen.

Grounds Beautification Committee
For You?
Wouldn't you like to have the opportuni-ty to have input on making the church grounds more attractive? Well now you have the chance because we are creating a new “Grounds Beautification Com-
mittee”. We have lost many ash trees in the past two years and our grounds plan has not been updated in 16 years.
We are interested in three levels of improvement ideas. First, create a list of free or inexpensive improvements that we can do right now with relative ease. Second, improvements that cost a little bit of money, but would make a big impact. These types of projects are what groups like Boy Scouts are looking for as their Eagle Scout Project. Third, long term projects and a wish list. Then investigate what it would take to get any of these improve-ments moving forward.

We Want You!
Our Parish Usher Ministry is in great need of help. As some of you may know, Dave Medvecz has been doing a magnificent job as “Head Usher” and would very much like
to retire. We need someone to step up and take this position, along with others to help with Ushering at all the Masses, or at least sign up to be a sub. We would like to have men, women, and young adults willing to help. This is not difficult and is done while at Mass. We will have a sign up sheet in the Ushers Room at all the Masses.
Right before winter, we replaced the roof on our church. As you know, it was a project we had to do in order to protect the inside of the church. Once again, thank you so much for your support and generosity.
This winter, we learned that our heating and cooling system is in a very bad condition. And we have to replace it before summer. This project will cost us approximately $90,000-$100,000. We are planning to begin the work this week. It is why once again I am asking you to support this need for our church. In April, there will be designated envelopes for this project entitled Heating
and Cooling Replacement Fund. There will also be oppor-tunities to support this project on Give Central with the same title.

The 23rd Kairos Retreat at Stateville
Prison, Crest Hill, Illinois is scheduled
for April 28th-May 1st. This retreat
is an ecumenical version based on
Catholic Cursillo. One thing we bring
in as a symbol of God's love (Agape) is home made cookies. We
never want these to run out and we are sharing these during the
course of the retreat to residents and prison staff. The team needs to
have over 2000 dozen to assure “God's love doesn't run out”. As
simple as this concept is, the residents really feel forgotten by socie-
ty and hearing that people on the outside spend time praying and
baking for them is moving. Recipes will be available in the church
office. We need the cookies by 4/20/18. Frozen is OK. I'll happily
pick them up. There are many other ways to serve. We can use ban-
ners, placemats, letters and most of all your prayers. There will be a
closing ceremony Consider the Corporal Work of Mercy of visiting
the imprisoned and participate in any of the above donation of
needed items. Contact me with any questions. Tom Blake, Kairos
Retreat Team Stateville #23,847-658-0583.
