Catholic Schools Offer Academic Excellence and Faith-Filled Education

Catholic schools offer academic excellence and faith-filled education for students nationwide. National test scores, high school graduation rates, college attendance and other data show that Catholic schools frequently out perform schools in both public and private sectors. While some Catholic schools are challenged by declining enrollments and school closures, the good news is that there is a strong demand and enthusiasm for Catholic schools — many have waiting lists for admission and new schools are opening. Visit www.ncea.org for more information.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

Throughout the Easter season, all three of the Sun-day readings are taken from the New Testament--the Christian scriptures. Together they explore what it means to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the One who fulfilled the prophecies of the Jewish scriptures.

Today's selections refer to our human weakness, yet they emphasize the forgiveness and peace that are available to those who put their faith in "Jesus Christ the righteous one" (1 John 2:2). In the Acts of the Apostles Peter invites everyone to "repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away" (Acts 3:19). The First Letter of John calls Jesus Christ "expiation for our sins" (1 John 2:2). Finally, in the Gospel Jesus greets the disciples with "Peace" and urges them to preach "repentance, for the forgiveness of sins" (Luke 24:47).

“A model of care has been developed specifically

for families whose infant is likely to die before or

after birth. Often called ‘perinatal hospice’, it’s a

way of caring for both the baby and the baby’s fami-

ly before, as well as after, birth.”

“I can look around!” You are in the home stretch with your spiritually adopted baby. Beginning this month the baby uses all four senses. He can see, hear, taste, touch, cough, yawn and hiccup. Awareness—Education—Action

We can prevent child abuse.

Child abuse is one of the greatest tragedies of our times. It doesn’t have to be. We can prevent it by building communities that are committed to fami-lies and to the services they need to raise strong, healthy, and successful children. Put Children and Families First!

Care enough to call the Child Abuse Hotline if you suspect a child is being hurt.

In Illinois call 1-800-25ABUSE (1-800-252-2873)

Be a positive and nurturing parent or caretaker and help other family members, friends, and neighbors be positive parents too. Make children a priority. Make sure they are safe and have healthy environ-ments. Allow yourself a time-out when needed. Taking care of yourself is as important as taking care of your family.

Seek help if you need it. If you feel out of control or worried about your parenting, get help. Call the National Parent Helpline 1-855-427-2736.
