First thoughts David hull, Pastor
Easter lives at the intersection of worship and missions. Like Mary, we encounter the risen Lord and fall down and worship. Also like Mary, we go to our brothers and sisters with the good news of the resurrection of Jesus. Worship and missions go together during this holy season.
sunday begins holy Week. i hope that you will allow the special worship experiences to draw you close to the suffering and glory of our Lord:
Palm sunday morning – join the chorus as we echo the hosannas of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Palm sunday night – allow beautiful instrumental music in our sanctuary to express your praise to god.
Maundy thursday night – Come to the table of the Lord and participate in the supper that was given so that we may remember what happened on the cross.
good Friday – in the shadows of a tenebrae service, let the words of scripture and the music of the seven Last Words bring you closer to the Crucified one.
Easter sunday – Choose between three worship services that we will be offering on that morning and come celebrate the resurrection. Join your sunday school class for Bible study. if you do not have a regular Bible study class, come to the Chapel where i will be teaching a special Easter Pastor’s Class.
(open up this newsletter for more information about these worship opportunities during holy Week.)
Easter is not only a time for worship, it is a time for missions. We give to the Annie Armstrong Easter offering which supports the work of the North American Mission Board (southern Baptist Convention) and the global Missions offering (Cooperative Baptist Fellowship). Both of these groups need our gifts to support the work of missionaries on the field. We have a wonderful story to share. We have great people who have committed their lives to sharing the good news. Choose the group that you want to support and be generous in your giving.
Mary encountered the risen Lord and her response was to worship and to go tell the good news. i hope that we will do the same.

During this time of the year, we see a beautiful illustration of God’s love with the new life found in trees and flowers around us. We invite you to help us illustrate this new life with your family by bringing flowers to add to one of our Easter Floral Crosses. There will be extra flowers in a bucket at the base of the crosses. As you place your flower use this outward sign as a way of thanking God for the Grace we receive through His Son, Our Savior, Christ Jesus! Our crosses will be at the East Entrance or in Fellowship Hall for First Fellowship Worship. We look forward to seeing you at the foot of the cross!
