News for Young Changemakers April 2010 Youth Venture Updates NYU Be a Changemaker Challenge NYU Reynolds & Youth Venture are proud to announce the 2009-2010 Be a Changemaker Challenge Best Overall Venture and recipient of the $10k Grand Prize Award: Cycles from Michelle Dugan and Ashley Seiver. Ashoka Future Forum To celebrate Ashoka's 30th year, Ashoka held the Ashoka Future Forum on April 6th at the Newseum in Washington, DC. The Ashoka Future Forum brought together the country's foremost social innovators to envision the future of our society and to catalyze large scale positive social change. Golden Opportunities Six Flags Friends Scholarships DoSomething.org and Six Flags Friends are offering six, $1,500 college scholarships to young leaders. Scholarships will be awarde based on past, current and planned action in the community. Deadline: April 30, 2010 Founder's Youth Award Recognizes a young person under 21 who is making extraordinary contributions to the lives of other children. Winner will receive a grant up to $25,000. Deadline: May 1, 2010 Brower Youth Awards Recognizes youth ages 13-22 in North America who have shown outstanding leadership on a project o campaign with positive environmental and social impact. Winners receive a $3,000 cash prize and trip to San Francisco. Deadline: May 15, 2010 YV Team Spotlight: Write On! For Literacy Founded by Dallas Woodburn in 2001, Write On! For Literacy is a program that encourages kids to discover self-confidence, expression, and connection with others through reading and writing. Write On!'s programs include holiday book drives, summer writing camps, writing contests and publishing student writing. Read More >> Dallas is working with a YV Mentor to expand the program, she hopes that one day every US state will have chapters of Write On! Her mentor is helping her realize this dream. YV Community Panel in San Francisco On Saturday, March 6, 2010, Youth Venture held its first Community Panel in the San Francisco Bay Area. Seven Youth Venture teams presented their ideas and answered questions during the Community Panel at the Goldman Auditorium in the David Brower Center, Berkeley.
