ENERGY FORESTS
Maputo Bioenergy Week
5 to 9 May 2014
.
The International Center on Renewable Energy-Biogas (CIBiogás-ER) is focused on the development of biogas as an energetic product, to be used to generate electric, thermal and automotive energies.
To foster the use of renewable energies, focused on biogas, promoting technologic development, entrepreneurship, and stimulating public policies to enhance local and regional supply chains, with economic, social and environmental positive impacts.
MISSION
To be recognized, until 2023, as a reference center on data, information, and technological orientation related to biogas and other renewable energies.

Forests Status in Paraná
SEAB/DEAGRO, 2009
Short wood offer Good wood offer
Project Goals
Short Term
-Reduction of 70% of wood demand
-Reduction of U$ 430.000/year in operational costs -Better stability and efficiency of industrial boilers
2 examples of use of biogas replacing wood: Starch Industries (Amidonaria C.Vale)
Use of biogas enhance temperature controll, stabilizing the flame
Project Goals
Mid Term
Prepare Future
Develop a new Energy Forest concept to foster use of wood as a primary source of energy to be used by rural properties
Project Goals
Long Term
Consolidate Energy Matrix
Stabilize agri-business thermal energy offer and demand and use wood integrated with biogas

1 - Planning & Control – Cooperative
Forestry Planning
Direct support by cooperatives (same basis
of swine and poultry cooperatives)
Quality control Selection of participants
Forest cutting plan
Details
2 - Selection of the Forest Vocation Lands
Kind of soil
Soil use
Forest Vocation Lands
Slope (Declividade)

Selection of non used areas for
agriculture
No competition with existing grains and pasture crops
Diferent forest productivity in different soil classes
Details
3 - Forest Management
Decentralized areas
thickened management (Manejo adensado) 3mx1m
Fertilization with biofertilizer
Fast grow selected eucaliptus clones
Short cycle - 2 to 5 years
Low labor
Use of equipment and tools known by any small rural producers
Biofertilizer

4 - Logistics & Processing – Energetic Efficiency
Enhancement of Cooperatives, with guaranteed prices
Wood size standarization
Offer and Demand controlled by the
cooperative
The process can involve firewood or pellets
Biogas

Project Timeline
Biofertilization 30 days before planting
30 days after planting In a infertile area
30 days after planting In a fertile area
Project Timeline
4 months after planting 1,5 year after planting 1,5 year after planting
- The project is 1,5 year old. The eucalyptus are from 7 to 9 meters tall, with 7 to 9 cm diameter - The project involves 5 rural properties of the Agri-Energy Cooperative for Family Farming
