Clubs 1. Ambassadors Club The Ambassadors Club is for students interested in representing the Ensworth community by hosting student visitors. The requirements for Ambassador Club members are: attending a training meeting, host student visitors for half of the school day periodically through the year, follow up with visitors, and provide valuable feedback to the admission office. The Ambassadors Club is a great opportunity open to

freshmen that complete the Ambassadors application and are enthusiastic about Ensworth! Faculty Supervisor: Ms. Chan [email protected]

2. Art Club Art Club provides creative hands on opportunities or projects in a variety of media to all students interested in participating. Based on student interest, field trips to artists’ studios and exhibitions can be arranged and can be combined with Photo Club. Faculty Supervisor: Ms. Blitz [email protected]

3. Culture Club The purpose of the culture club is to build bridges between students and families from differing social, religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds by celebrating the many traditions and cultures that are represented in the Ensworth School family—and beyond. Faculty Supervisor: Mrs. Aguirre [email protected]

4. Cycling Club Beginning in September we will be hosting weekly group rides originating from the EHS parking lot. These will be road rides alternating routes through the Warner Parks and the Natchez Trace. Road bikes, water and helmets are required on all rides.

Faculty Supervisor: Mr. Lovell [email protected] all rides.

5. Debate Club The Debate Club is a great way to learn and practice rhetoric, as well as travel to select tournaments throughout the year. The club practices in a Public Forum debate style, which involves two teams of two debating each other, so bring a partner! The club will practice twice a week for about 45 minutes each time, and will work towards entering the regional tournament in March. Faculty Supervisor: TBD

6. Garden Club The EHS Garden Club serves many purposes at Ensworth and our community. Members are responsible for planning, maintenance, and harvesting of food from our garden on campus. Members also serve to support the Ensworth Waste Management Plan by serving as compost Proctors and Monitors during break, lunch, and after school. Finally, Members learn how prepare seasonal foods and share food within our school community and the greater community of Nashville. If you like working outside, gardens, cooking, and helping the planet, this club is for you! Faculty Supervisor: Mr. Scott [email protected]

7. Hip Hop Club Do you love to dance and want to be a part of a high-energy performance team? If so, here’s your chance to join Ensworth’s very own Hip Hop Club! Performance opportunities include pep rallies, assemblies, and the Spring Dance Concert. Weekly practices will be on Tuesdays during ECL/tutorial (from 2:50- 3:30) and regular attendance is expected in order to maintain your spot in the performance. Please be aware that there may be some minimal out-of-pocket expenses for performance-wear and/or shoes. Please email Mrs. White at [email protected] to reserve your spot in the club. Faculty Supervisor: Mrs. White [email protected]

8. International Thespian Society The International Thespian Society will allow students to let their creative theatre ideas explode within the Ensworth community and expose them to the growing theatre community in Nashville. This club is for all interested in theater performances, tech, theater education, or theater reviews.

Faculty Supervisor: Mr. Bryan [email protected]

9. Investment Club

The Investment Club provides an opportunity for Ensworth students to explore and discuss the various aspects of the stock market, from researching

corporations to following business-related news to participating in a stock market simulation. Participating students will become more financially literate

and will develop an understanding of and appreciation for how the stock market plays a crucial role in the US economy. Future possibilities may include the

investment of real money in the stock market on behalf of Ensworth School’s service learning objectives.

Faculty Supervisor: Mr. Wright [email protected]

10. Literary Magazine Club Do you enjoy creative writing, literary discussions, or the visual arts? Have you ever wondered what it takes to make a publication come to life and sparkle on the page? Or, are you interested in learning more about these kinds of pursuits? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the Literary Magazine is the place for you! The primary goal of the Literary Magazine is to produce The Eclipse, an annual publication that showcases a unique blend of students’ creative writing and artwork. Members of the Literary Magazine collect, edit, and often contribute to the body of student work that ultimately becomes The Eclipse. In addition to providing us with time to work on The Eclipse, our Literary Magazine meetings will also give students the opportunity to share and receive feedback on the creative pieces that they’re working on, as well as the chance to learn about a wide array of writing practices and strategies. Faculty Supervisor: Mr. Kaminski [email protected]

11. Model United Nations

The Model UN program helps to teach students how the real United Nations and other international organizations work to solve

international crises. They learn the process of writing resolutions and work in conjunction with

representatives from other countries to try to resolve each crisis in a spirit of cooperation. Students will work much of the time in small committee groups that experience crisis simulations in both past and

present scenarios. The Model UN Club attends conferences at nearby colleges such as Vanderbilt

and Rhodes College in Memphis. This club operates in the Fall and Winter marking periods.

Faculty Supervisors: Mr. Chanaca [email protected] Mr. Herring [email protected] 12. Music & Lyrics Club Music & Lyrics is a club for members of the Ensworth community who enjoy creating instrumental compositions, lyrics, and/or songs. Are you the next Lupe Fiasco, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Paul Simon, or Bela Fleck? Alternatively, will future generations be asking themselves if they are the next you? If you have an original melody in your head that is begging for words or some original lyrics that need a melody and rhythm section, this may be the club for you. When the group meets (twice per month), members can either perform a piece that they have already completed or ask for suggestions on how to improve a work in progress. Whenever possible, the club sponsors visits from professionals in the music industry; recent guests include Tift Merritt, Attorney Randy Smith, and the Warren Brothers. In addition, the club sponsors an annual EHS Coff-E House featuring original compositions. This year's Coff-E House is scheduled for the evening of February 13, 2014. Faculty Supervisor:

Mr. Jackoboice [email protected] 13. Outdoor Adventure Club The Great Outdoors can be an unrivaled source of learning, inspiration, healing, life-long fitness, and FUN! Exciting summer jobs and entire careers, in fact, can be found in outdoor recreation and travel leadership. Our Club seeks to promote the outdoor adventure interests students already have, as well as introduce skills and activities to those with no previous outdoor recreation/travel experience. Possible activities include hiking, biking, camping, caving, rock climbing, canoeing/kayaking, skiing/snowboarding, archery, geocaching, adventure games (paintballing, ziplining), survival skills, and wilderness first aid. If we’ve left an activity out, it’s because you haven’t suggested the idea to us yet! Tigers are meant to live in the wild—come join us! Faculty Supervisor: Mr. Knopp [email protected]

14. Photo Club

The goal of the Photo Club is to explore the art of photography outside of the classroom. Club activities will include fun photo projects, peer-critiques and discussions, guest speakers, and outings to see local museum and gallery exhibits. Everyone who loves photography is welcome to join, even if you don't have much experience!

Faculty Supervisor: Mrs. Deal-McEver [email protected]

15. Service Club The Service Club has as its aim to serve the greater Nashville community through student-lead projects in areas which are of interest to club members. This year some of our projects include: selling lanyards at football games, organizing a blood drive, tutoring kids at LEAD Academy, selling corsages for Homecoming, and having a talent show. Faculty Supervisor: Ms. Doza [email protected]

Students are encouraged to create their own bill related to real issues that center on Tennessee concerns. In working with the Middle Tennessee YMCA’s Youth In Government program, students not only get to experience the entire legislative process, but do so at The Tennessee State Capitol and Legislative Plaza in downtown Nashville. This club operates during the Spring semester. Faculty Supervisor: Mr. Chanaca [email protected] Mr. Kaminski [email protected]

Student Organizations

1. Huddle Huddle is a Christian club that meets on Monday nights after sports practices to worship. The club is designed to unite the body of Christ and allow students to bond with others that share their same belief. We will have a number of speakers from faculty or special guests, videos, and even testimonies shared by students. We welcome all to come to either fellowship or simply observe as we worship together. Student Organizer: Elizabeth Cox [email protected] Faculty Supervisor: Mrs. Leah [email protected]

2. OUTreach Ensworth is a school that focuses on “creating an open and welcoming environment for all students” (41). We envision a student body dedicated to making everyone feel accepted, regardless of sexuality or gender identity. We envision a school where students do not feel inferior because of their orientation. And we envision a school where the word “gay” is not considered or used as an insult. OUTreach is an organization that works to create an environment where all members of the EHS community feel accepted for who they are. Currently, Ensworth does not have any groups on campus that discuss issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and their relevance within the community. OUTreach’s purpose, therefore, is to create a space to have the types of conversations that students feel they cannot have anywhere else in hopes that one day the conversations will not be limited to this one group, but will encompass the whole school. Student Organizers: Ashley Wines [email protected]

Mary Claire Smalley [email protected] Faculty Supervisor: Mrs. Marks [email protected]

3. Random Acts of Kindness Random Acts of Kindness is a student organization that hopes to make people happy by performing acts of kindness to random students at random times throughout the year. Some of our activities include: candy during exam time, candy canes at Christmas time, adopt a soldier, and treats for individual advisories. These activities will not involve the collection of money or require individuals to use or spend cash on campus. All expenses will be covered by members of the student organization. Student Organizers: Maria Schulz [email protected]

Siona Kalil [email protected] Faculty Supervisor: Mr. Chanaca [email protected]

4. EHS Saber Tigers The EHS Saber Tigers is a student organization dedicated to sharing the joy and fun of the sport of saber fencing with the Ensworth community. It will hold weekly meeting to learn the basics of fencing, from footwork to parries to refereeing bouts. Student Organizers: Ginny Boehm [email protected]
