Finished pillowcase: 30×20"(fits a standard-size bed pillow)

Yardages and cutting instructions are based on 42" of usable fabric width.Measurements include seam allowances (1⁄4" for piecing blocks and 1⁄2" for pillowcase construction). Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.

Appliqué shapes were cut with the AccuQuilt GO! Sea Life Medley die (#55190). If you wish to use scissors instead, the patterns are on page 5.

To cut out appliqués with an AccuQuilt fabric cutter, complete the following steps.

1. Place fusible web, paper side up, on the wrong side of appliqué fabrics. Press according to manufacturer's instructions; let cool.

2. Following manufacturer's instructions, use fabric cutter to cut out specified numbers of pattern pieces from prepared fabrics. Peel off paper backings.

To cut out appliqués with scissors, complete the following steps.

1. Lay fusible web, paper side up, over patterns. Use a pencil to trace each pattern the number of times indicated in cutting instructions, leaving 1⁄2" between tracings. Cut out each fusible-web shape roughly 1⁄4" outside traced lines.

2. Following manufacturer’s instructions, press each fusible-web shape onto wrong side of designated fabric; let cool. Cut out fabric shapes on drawn lines. Peel off paper backings.

From assorted tone-on-tones, cut:• 2 each of patterns A and

A reversed• 2 each of patterns B and

B reversed• 4 of Pattern C

Assemble BandUse 1⁄4" seam allowances for the following steps.

1. Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line on wrong side of each green print 17⁄8" square. To prevent fabric from stretching as you draw the lines, place 220-grit sandpaper under each square.

2. Align a marked 17⁄8" square with one corner of an assorted blue print 51⁄2" square (Diagram 1). Sew on drawn line; trim excess fabric, leaving 1⁄4" seam allowance. Press open attached triangle.

3. Repeat Step 2 to add marked 17⁄8" squares to remaining corners of blue print 51⁄2" square to make a Snowball block

(Diagram 2). The block should be 51⁄2" square including seam allowances.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to make eight Snowball blocks total.

5. Referring to Appliqué Placement Diagram, arrange one appliqué shape on each Snowball block. Following manufacturer's instructions, peel off paper backings and press appliqué shapes in place; let cool. Using a zigzag or blanket stitch, machine-stitch around each appliqué shape.

6. Sew appliquéd blocks together in a row (Band Assembly Diagram) to make an appliquéd strip. Press seams in one direction. The strip should be 401⁄2×51⁄2" including seam allowances.

7. Referring to Band Assembly Diagram, sew together green print 51⁄2×401⁄2" strip and appliquéd strip. Join short edges to make a loop. Fold loop in half with wrong side inside; press to make pillowcase band.

Assemble Pillowcase1. Fold space print 253⁄4×41"

rectangle in half widthwise to form a 253⁄4×201⁄2" rectangle. Using a 1⁄2" seam allowance, sew together long edges and a pair of short edges to make pillowcase body. Turn right side out; press flat.

2. Matching raw edges, slide pillowcase band over pillowcase body with appliquéd strip facing pillowcase body (Diagram 3); pin. Using a 1⁄4" seam allowance, sew together through all layers.

3. Press pillowcase band open, pressing seams toward pillowcase body. Topstitch on pillowcase body 1⁄8" from band edge to secure seam allowances and complete pillowcase (Diagram 4).
