1. Purpose and scope
Level indicators / BNA level meters of the trade mark KSR KUEBLER / WIKA are designed for various
industries and serve to monitor and / or continuous measurement of the liquid levels.
Level indicators and BNA level meters refer to explosion-proof equipment according to group II of
GOST 31441.1-2011 (EN 13463-1:2001). They are designed for use in hazardous areas inside and
outside production facilities in accordance with the assigned explosion protection markings.

3. Description of design and explosion protection
3.1 Design description of the level meter:
Level indicator / BNA level meter (or bypass level indicator BNA) consists of a bypass chamber in the
form of a communicating vessel mounted on the side of the tank. It is connected to the vessel by at
least two process connections (flanged, threaded or welded connections).
Level indicators / BNA level meters (hereinafter referred to as level indicators) operate on the principle
of a communicating vessel. Due to this method of installation, the level in the bypass chamber always
corresponds to the level in the vessel.
In the tube of the level indicator there is a float with an integrated magnetic system (permanent
magnet). This float contactlessly transmits information about the current fluid level to a magnetic roller
level indicator mounted outside the bypass chamber. The position of the float in height varies
according to the level of the working medium.
Two-color plastic rollers or steel plates with embedded bar magnets are installed in the level indicator
at a distance of 10 mm from each other.
The magnetic field operates contactlessly through the wall of the bypass chamber, acting on the
elements of the roller indicator and turning them 180 degrees. When the liquid level rises, the color of
the elements changes from white to red, and when decreases, respectively, from red to white. In this
way, the change in the level of the target medium is indicated by means of a color (on request, it is
possible to obtain elements with a different color).
Due to this, the level indicator shows the level of liquid in the vessel without the need to connect to a
mains power source.

3.2 Explosion safety of the level indicators is provided by constructional safety type “c” according to
GOST 31441.5-2011 (EN 13463-5:2003) and compliance with the requirements of GOST 31441.1-
2011 (EN 13463-1:2001).
Safe operation of the equipment can only be ensured if it is used and serviced in accordance with the
requirements of the operating manual.
4. Marking
The marking applied to the level indicators should include the following data:
- Manufacturer’s name or his registered trademark
- Type of product
- Serial number
- Date of manufacture
- Explosion-proof marking
- Special explosion-proof mark according to TP TC 012/2011
- Name of the certification body and the number of the certificate of conformity.
Marking of products may include additional information, if necessary for their safe use in accordance
with technical and regulatory documentation.
5. Special conditions for the safe use of equipment
The "X" mark in the explosion-proof marking for level meters indicates special conditions for their safe
use, which are as follows:
- The ambient temperature range during operation of the level indicator must correspond to the data
given in its technical documentation.
- When operating and maintaining the device, the customer must comply with the relevant
requirements and regulations given in the operating instructions.
- The customer is obliged to observe the specified service life of the device, during which the
abidance of the explosion-proof parameters established by the manufacturer and specified in the
technical documentation for the equipment is guaranteed.
6. The manufacturer's entering into the construction and technical documentation of products
confirming their compliance with the requirements of TP TC 012/2011, any changes and additions
affecting the parameters of explosion-proof level indicators, are possible only after agreement with the
LLC OSP "Techno-standard".
