Further to our telephone conversation, please could you also clarify how many staff there would be (full-time and part-time) - I believe from our conversation you currently work with 3 temporary employees and a volunteer - is this correct? I will add this supporting information to your application. Kind regards

I was disappointed to hear that more info is needed as the landlord is now chasing me, as the planning was sought in March. But I appreciate your help and thanks for your advice so I hope the following helps. (sorry for rambling) The venue would be used as a Martial Arts Centre / Healthcentre (stretching, circuit training, padwork, skipping, providing Indian head massage, holistic healing etc / social room (for holiday clubs etc) and to educate people about the beauty of Chinese Culture, whilst providing a single residence the students can call “home”… for some of the students BICMA Telford is their only outlet so rather than travelling from location to location, it seems sensible for them to have a place they can come if they need. i.e. to do some stretching to de-stress or join in classes. We are affiliated to BICMA in London who have a full time centre in Wembley, local residence at Eton College (where Prince William and Prince Harry attended) and myself and the club have performed for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. They have recently been offered a full time centre by the council as the club has so many achievements; competitions national and international, film work (working with Jackie Chan, Jennifer Lopez, Beonce` Knowles and on set such as Harry Potter and a previous Martial Artist I trained with Ray Park in Starwars The Phantom Menace), stunt work (fencing, horseriding stunts, special effects, fire & falling days) as well as teaching over 150 children every day in after school club. Every other year we take people to Malaysia to train for the month and the other year we bring over Grand Master Teng (Gold Champion in Sanshou) to put on Tai Chi, weapons and Martial Arts fun days and demonstrations. We teach self defence, Kungfu, Sanshou (boxing mixed with kungfu – light continutious point scoring game involving circuit training, padwork and skipping which is great fun and brilliant exercise), Tai Chi Warm up and also work closely with Telford & Wrekin Council, mainstream schools, special schools, community centres, leisure centres, and Telford Chinese School who are a charity which gets funding for children, minority groups, disadvantaged families and disabled people etc to put on activities such as Tai Chi, Chinese Dance, culture and arts and crafts. I am the only member of Telford & Wrekin Council Sports Advisory Group to be given permission to teach Sanshou in Schools and Leisure centres as the sport is recognised by Sport England. I also work for I Can 2

Sport & Leisure, providing martial arts for children with disabilities and have a large role in the admin for providing the weekly activities and holiday programs such as iceskating, bowling, swimming and many of the juniors who attend I Can 2 have now joined my club, as parents, doctors, teachers and physiotherapist have noticed not only a change in their behaviour, but how well they are doing at school, how more relaxed they are, as well as learning to defend themselves and gaining muscles, balance and co-ordination they never had before. The opening hours will be from 8am – 10pm Monday – Saturday, possibly used by Telford Chinese School or other clubs on Sundays. The sessions will be due to demand (at present I am teaching 15-25 hours per week), so it may only be used from 4.45pm – 8pm. If successful, we can do activities for adults with disabilities and the elderly during the mornings and the daytime and activities for children during school holidays. Classes are for ages 4-15, Adults16+, womens classes and the elderly for Tai Chi warm up (geared towards arthritis – also good for preventative measures) and Tai Chi. Parking shouldn’t be a problem; the parents drop the children off and go and do their shopping and the adults classes only have 4-10 people, some of which use the bus. A lot of children walk or get the bus, but their would normally only be drop off/pick up as people in the venue would disrupt the children.. 4.45pm – 5.45pm = 10-20 children5.45pm – 6.45pm = 10 -20 children (but most of the children stay for the 2 hours as its cheaper – giving the parents some respite. 7pm – 8pm = 4-10 adults Possibly a 8pm – 9pm class for adults depending on demand but I think it will probably on be 4 evenings a week (unless I can rent out the venue to other clubs to use – normally the same amount of people 5-10). The children are well behaved due to the discipline that Martial Arts provides and they are told to be quiet whilst entering and leaving the building. BICMA rules which they need to abide by as a member. We not only teach them fitness, but also to respect other people and they also mind their P’s and Q’s. I will also forward you my CV, rules of the club, child protection, biography and anything else I think you may need, but you can go on our website for more information www.chin-woo.com (under revamp). Look forward to hearing from you and thanks again Lisa Grant Telford BICMA Club Coach www.chin-woo.com 07939 667003 From: [email protected]

To: [email protected] Date: Mon, 6 Sep 2010 15:56:30 +0100 Subject: TWC/2010/0409 Proposed change of use to martial arts centre at 30 Alexandra Road, WellingtonDear Miss Grant With reference to the above application, I am writing to request further information to enable me to assess the application. The current submission does not provide sufficient information with regard to hours of opening (on the application forms, no hours are outlined, only that the building would be used 7 days a week). Furthermore the number of people attending the martial arts centre would be useful so we can consider this against available parking provision etc. What age group(s) will be attending/ how many people at any one time? I have seen pre-application correspondence that suggests the proposal is linked to Council-led schemes - is this the case? It would be useful to provide as much supporting information as possible to aid consideration of your proposal. I also attach an email from Councillor Chaplin who has requested that the application is considered by Members at Plans Board as local residents have raised some concerns regarding the proposal. The application will be considered at either 6th October or 27th October Plans Board meeting. I hope this is helpful to you and look forward to receiving further information as requested.
