An apprenticeship is a job with a salary. You will have an employer who you work for and who pays your wages and, because all apprentices undertake training, you will also have a training provider who supports you to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

About Training Providers There are many training providers represented here today for you to speak to. Training providers work with employers to help them recruit their apprentices. They will also help to:

• Write a job description and a person specification for each apprenticeship vacancy, then advertise and promote it.

• Screen applicants and draw up a shortlist for each vacancy.

• Draw up a contract of employment and enrol apprentices onto the correct training course.

• Support and assess apprentices throughout their apprenticeship and arrange the qualification certificate at the end of the contract.

You should therefore always talk to training providers about the range of apprenticeship vacancies they may have available with employers in the city.

About EmployersEmployers from a large range of industries are recruiting apprentices for many different roles right now!

Any employer offering an apprenticeship must:

• Provide each apprentice with a job, and with the support to do it. This must include an induction and relevant on-the-job training.

• Provide an apprenticeship agreement (similar to an employment contract) at the start of the apprenticeship.

• Pay a salary of at least the National Minimum Wage for apprentices.

• Offer apprentices the same staff benefits that other employees receive, including pension contributions.

• Supply any uniform or specialist equipment required to carry out the role.

During this apprenticeship fair you will be able to talk to training providers and employers about real opportunities covering all sorts of roles in all sorts of businesses and professions.

There are over 250 different types of apprenticeships available, many of which are represented at today’s recruitment fair.
