Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care (Level 2)Intermediate apprentices may work in roles such as care assistant/worker, night care assistant, support worker, home care support worker or mental health support worker.

Learners can take one of three pathways; General, Dementia or Learning Disabilities.

This qualification is made up of a number of mandatory and optional units. Each unit is given a credit value and the learner must achieve a minimum number of credits to achieve the qualification.

A PDM assessor will ensure that the learner’s chosen units achieve this minimum number of credits.

Course duration: 9-12 months

The Level 2 award is made up of five core elements:

BTEC in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care Level 2 BTEC in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in

Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings Level 2

MANDATORY UNITS:

Principles of communication in adult social care Settings

Principles of personal development in adult social care settings

Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings

Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care

Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

BTEC in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings Level 2

OPTIONAL UNITS: Dementia Pathway

Understand and implement a person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia

Equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care practice

Understand and enable interaction and communication with individuals with dementia

Approaches to enable rights and choices for individuals with dementia whilst minimising risks

OPTIONAL UNITS: Learning Disability Pathway

Support person-centred thinking and planning

Provide active support

Diploma in Health & Social Care Level 2

This is a mandatory single unit. It covers:

Statutory responsibilities and rights of employees and employers

Awareness of own occupational role and how it fits within the sector

Agreed ways of working with employer career pathways

Issues of public concern and how they may influence changes in the sector

Understand the role of the social care worker

Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings

Understand health and safety in social care settings

Understand how to handle information in social care settings.
