Apprenticeship Funding Summit speakers

Nick Linford is Managing Director of Lsect, a new company specialising

in post-16 funding, performance and data within the learning and skills

sector. Prior to setting up Lsect Nick spent six years as Director of Planning

and Performance for Lewisham College. Nick plays a leading role in capacity

building on the use of funding and management information in the learning

and skills sector, is the author of The hands-on guide to post-16 funding

(www.fundingguide.co.uk) and The hands-on guide to post-16

performance and data (www.dataguide.co.uk).

Paul Warner is the Director of Delivery for the Association of Learning

Providers (ALP). Paul started in the post-16 sector in 1993 as a Recruitment

Consultant on Training for Work contracts. He subsequently worked in a

variety of related operational and senior management roles, culminating

in a highly successful three years as Director of Business Development for

a national independent provider. On leaving this post he worked as a

consultant for a time, including a spell managing WBL delivery at a major

East London FE College, before joining ALP in September 2003. Paul is

currently responsible for ALP’s regional operations and acts as first point

of contact for most external queries regarding operational and delivery

matters across all three major funding bodies. He specialises in lobbying

and research activities on Apprenitceships, Welfare to Work

and Ufi/learndirect.

Jon Thorn is Employer Services Director for the National Apprenticeship

Service in London. He is responsible for leading the promotion and

engagement with employers to take on apprentices within London.

Jon joined the National Apprenticeship Service from its inception in

April 2009, prior to this he has held a number of roles within the

Learning & Skills Council, working with both Apprenticeships, Train

to Gain and developing the Mayor’s Skills and Employment strategy.

Prior to joining the LSC Jon started his career at South London Training

and Enterprise Council where he was responsible for supporting the

quality improvement of work based learning programmes.

Paul Eeles has been the Chief Executive of EMFEC since 1 January 2011.

Paul also takes on the additional responsibility of AoC East Midlands

Regional Director ensuring that the voice of the East Midlands Colleges

is heard at regional and national level through the service that EMFEC

provides to the Association of Colleges (AoC). Previously Paul was Director

of Sector Reforms at Association of Learning Providers (ALP) where he had

been part of the senior management team since February 2005. At ALP

Paul led nationally on policy reform related to Apprenticeship's, Machinery

of Government Changes, Sector Skills Councils, Quality Improvement,

Inspection, Qualification Reform and Workforce Reform. Paul worked

closely with officials from Department for Education and Department

for Business, Innovation & Skills and stakeholder organisations to

represent the interests of ALP members.
