What is SNAME? International professional organization dedicated to the
advancement of the ship design, shipbuilding, and ship operating communities.
Founded in 1893, the Society comprises over 10,000 individuals throughout the world
Organized into 5 Regions Each Region has professional “sections” and
“student chapters” 18 Sections 22 Active Student Chapters
Local professionals belong to the Hampton Roads Section Apprentice School Student Chapter would be affiliated
with (funded by) the Hampton Roads Section, but operate independently

Members elect officers Chairman & Vice-Chairman Secretary & Treasurer
Develop Chapter by-laws
Local HR SNAME Chapter sponsors Faculty Advisor (Dr. Dick Boutwell) submits letter to
SNAME HQ requesting approval to form a chapter Patrick Ryan (E46), past president of the Virginia
Tech Student Chapter and member of HR Chapter, Ex. Committee will provide new officer guidance.

SNAME Student Vision
