Graduate Scholarships-information O Each spring, the Office of Scholarships announces a
call for graduate scholarships.
O Graduate scholarships are for all graduate students, including masters and doctoral students.
O Most of these have fairly general criteria, but for a few there are some specific populations being targeted.
O Funding for these scholarships comes from private donors and organizations.
O There are different scholarships, but you don’t get to choose which to apply to. Instead, you: O submit a general application, O then a committee reviews and ranks the
applicants, O then funds are awarded accordingly, based
on ranking and fit with specific scholarships, as determined by the committee.

Graduate Scholarships-information(How competitive is this competition? In 2013, there were about 200 applicants In 2014, there were about 120 applicants About 35 scholarships are awarded each year.
It’s competitive! However, these scholarships are dispersed in Fall and Spring of the following academic year. If an awarded student graduates in December, the next student on the ranked list will be awarded an unexpected Spring scholarship!

O How much do I get? Last year awards ranged from $500-$10,000 per year. Every little bit helps, and it looks good on your CV!

O Am I eligible to apply? Requirements: O Accepted into a UTEP graduate program or
be a current UTEP graduate student with a 3.0+ GPA
O Graduation date December 2015 or later O Must be a full-time graduate student during
award year

O The application is online at: www.utep.edu/scholarships
Click on Graduate Scholarship Application & open with Adobe Acrobat to fill in blanks on the application. Besides the signed application form, you need to submit the following:

O 1-page statement highlighting academic achievements, describing current project, & future goals (12-point font, 1” margins, double-spaced)
O 2-page CV, listing degrees, publications, presentations, patent applications, honors, community service, creative projects, or clinical practice
O Undergraduate & graduate transcripts O 2 letters of faculty/staff support (1 letter must be from
major professor, advisor, or mentor)
