YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What are you looking for during the interview and audition?Bright, lively, enthusiastic students who have something to say about theatre, life and the world they live in; those who are brave, bold and can respond to ideas and direction.
What if I don’t have much experience in Drama?SoSometimes this can be a positive attribute. You bring a fresh approach and an enthusiasm to learn that more experienced candidates sometimes lack.
How seriously do you take into account academic qualifications when offering places?TThough many applicants are high achievers, everyone is given the same consideration and if at interview you are right for the company, then you will be offered a place. Although the force of numbers can make decisions difficult, academic qualifications do not override personal quality.
Where would I live?WWe have private houses available to rent in Stratford-upon-Avon for you to share with fellow company members. Each company member will have their own en-suite room as well as access to a shared kitchen and living area.
Could I get a job to help support myself?Students are actively encouraged to hold down a part-time job. Stratford is made up of plenty of restaurants, pubs and hotels. There are many opportunities for casual work.
Do I get any qualifications after my year out?We do not have a formal qualification but do offer our own certificate on successful completion of the year. The course is recognised by top universities and drama schools throughout the country and we have a alumni of past students working in all areas of the industry.
Do loads of people apply - what are my chances?WWell, you stand a better chance if you do apply than if you don’t!
I’m interested in drama but I want to do something else for a career - would I still be considered?Successful students have gone on to study a range of university subjects, including History, English and Medicine. As long as you are really excited by the idea of being immersed in theatre for a year, what you go on to do eventually is up to you. Your drama experience can help you develop in all sorts of ways.
If I join If I join Year Out Drama, can I do a new UCAS application from Stratford? One of the aims of the year is to support group members in their quest to gain places at University or Drama School.
Will I enjoy my Year?Let past students speak for themselves.
“My year in Stratford was the best in my life so far.” (Caroline Raudnitz)
“As time goes on you realise more and more what a fantastic opportunity it is.NothiNothing, not even my three years at drama school, was so much fun or taught
me so much.” (Tobias Menzies)
“The course opened up my eyes to so much more than life and work in thetheatre. I learnt skills not just for performance but for life. The wealth of
knowledge, friendships and contacts I made during my time in Stratford havehelped me during my three years at Bristol Old Vic and are still useful today in
my professional career.” (Peter Kenworthy)
OK, so OK, so how much is this all going to cost? The course fee for is £7,500. This includes all your teaching, theatre workshops, produc-tion costs, tickets and travel for the many theatre visits that are a regular feature of the course.
