INTRODUCTION

Phone 3G a marvel product from Apple. The entire user with its application and amazed

technical with its inside. It is a global effort of more than 10,000 people from over 30 countries

on three continents. Apple has created a different with its most innovation design and of course

the software that give iPhone its unique identity. The global mobile phone iPhone has major five

elements. They are display glasses, LCD display, Main logic board, back panel and battery. This

thing attacks many people to buy this device.

There are about four version has been released. Their name are kept as there version Apple

iPhone 2G, Apply iPhone 3G, Apple iPhone 3G S, Apple iPhone 4G. This mobile phone play

important role in mobile industry.

TOUCH SCREEN AND DISPLAY

iPhone feature a revolution in user interface. It large multi touch screen responses to both

point and their movements. Like spreading fingers apart to zoom in or pinching on to zoom out

simultaneously.

The screen has two main parts. The glass and the digitiser/LCD iPhone 2G had these component

glued together which make replacement of screen. Very expensive good look news is the glass

and the LCD screen is separated in 3G.

The capacitive touch-screen used in 3G comes from Sharp and Sanyo Epson. Broadcom’s

BCM5974 chip is used as the touch controller and Texas Instrument provides the line driver.

National Semiconductor LM2512AA provide display interface. Two boards (PCBs) - logic and

communication- found in the earlier iPhone are now integrated into single board that is laid

along the length.

PROCESSOR AND MEMORY

Samsung has provided the DDR SDRAM and the main processor S3C6400 base on ARM

1176 core. S3C6400 is a 16/32 bit RISC microprocessor designed to cost effective low power

and high power application solution for the mobile phones.

The same processor has been used in iPhone 2G too. Externally the main memory comes in 8GB

and 16GB NAND flash from Toshiba. SST’s SST25VF080B chip provide 1MB serial flash.




POWER MANAGEMENT

Infineon’s SMARTi power management IC SMP3i 6820 is optimized to support modem

and data card application. System level power is controlled and managed through NXP chip.

Triquint provides three power amplification, each working on different frequencies and

providing highly integrated linear amplifier, duplexer and coupler. For communication function

Sky works SKY77340 provides power amplification in quad-band GSM / EDGE.

BATTERY

iPhone 3G faces the same battery limitation as other smart phones when used for the

internet on a 3G network. It used a Lithium-ion polymer battery rated at 3.7v and 1150 mAh.

The battery is not soldered unlike the battery in 2G version making it user replaceable. The

battery iPhone 3G S is rated at 3.7 and 1219 mAh, which is just 6 percent higher than the battery

of Iphone 3G. Linear Technology LTC4088-2 takes care of battery charging and USB power

control.

OTHER ICs

Infineon provides solution for as many as four key design aspects. Other than the power

management IC mention above it provided UMTS transceiver based processor and GPS receiver.

GPS. The in-built GPS capability is provided by Infineon’s PMB2525 Hammerhead II GPS that

is integrated with assisted GpS. It provide low noise RF front and multi-path mitigation helps in

reducing error in urban areas. Assisted GPS takes assistance to discover its position form the

GPS equipment at the cell phone towers that maintain constant connection with the GPS satellite.

Thus the GPS receiver on the iPhone need not be in always ON mode.

ACCLEROMETER. Changing the orientation from landscape to portrait and vice versa ispossible because of STMicroelectronics LIS331 DL accelerometer. Use of chip has given

platform to many applications developed for innovation in gaming, photography, etc.

AUDIO. Wolfson WM6180C is audio coded that replaced the original WM8758. Audio format

supports by Apple iPhone are AAC, Protected ACC, MP3, MP3 VBR, audible format 2, 3, 4.

Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV.




WIRELESS CAPABILITY. The two chip at the back of the main board are Marvell’s single-

chip 8W8686 offering Wi-Fi and CSR bluecore6-ROM.

COMPARISON BETWEEN DIFFERENT VERSION OF iPHONE

CPU- The Apple iPhone 2G come with Samsung S3C6400 ARM 11 412 MHz, power MBX-

lite graphic. The Apple iPhone 3G comes with S3C6400 ARM 11 412 MHz, power MBX- lite

graphic. The Apple iPhone 3G S comes with Samsung S5PC100 ARM cortex AB 600 MHz

power SGX graphic.

BASEDBAND PROCESSOR- The Apple iPhone 2G and 3G S do not have baseband

processor. But the Apple iPhone 3G has Infineon 208 (PMB 8877)

STORAGE- The Samsung NAND internal 4/8/16 GB storage comes in iPhone 2G. Toshiba

NAND internal 8/16 GB storage come in iPhone 3G. Toshiba NAND internal storage comes in

iPhone 3G S.

MEMORY- The Apple iPhone 2G come with 128MB RAM and iPhone 3G come with

Samsung 128MB DDR RAM and Apple iPhone 3G S come with 256 MB RAM

BATTERY- In Apply iPhone 8.9cm (3.5 inch), 480x320 pixels at 163ppi multi touch display.

In Apple iPhone 3G and Apple iPhone 3G S come with same feature of 2G.

CONNECTIVITY- In Apply iPhone 2G GSM / EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) Wi-Fi

(802.11 b/g) Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. In Apple iPhone 3G UMTS / HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)

GSM / EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. In Apple

iPhone 3G S UMTS / HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) GSM / EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900

MHz) Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.

SIZE,WEIGHT- The size of the iPhone 2G is 115x61x11.6 mm3

113 gm. Both the iPhone 3G

and 3G S has 115.5x62.1x12.3 mm3

133 gm.

CAMERA- The camera for 2G and 3G has 2 MP, but for 3 G S it has about 3 MP.




CONCLUSION

The Apple has given Marvel product to us most innovation design and of course the

software that give iPhone its unique identity. In future Apply mobile will be used in every field

for its application. This wills rule the mobile world.
