Appendix-‘C’ Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha (JBGVS) Annual Progress Report for the year 2016-17 Introduction: Integrated Rural Development: The integrated rural development work of JBGVS continued to touch the lives of the underprivileged people primarily in rural areas as well as in the urban localities surrounding the facilities of Bajaj Group. The work covers Maval and Khed talukas of Pune district; Gangapur, Paithan and Aurangabad talukas of Aurangabad district; Hinganghat, Seloo and Deoli talukas of Wardha district in Maharashtra; Dhod taluka of Sikar district in Rajasthan and Kichha taluka (Pantnagar town) of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand. During FY 2016-17, JBGVS exited 15 villages as they achieved the required development level as per JBGVS indicator scale and has added 26 new villages for its work of integrated development. Thus, JBGVS is presently working in 110 villages directly and 1,500-plus villages indirectly through special projects like e-learning, education and water conservation. JBGVS implements the integrated rural development program under five focus areas; viz. education, health, economic development, environment and social development. Three types of projects are undertaken; viz. 1) Directly implemented by JBGVS, 2) Funded through JBGVS and 3) Implemented by JBGVS under Bajaj Group CSR. The area-wise number of villages/population covered and highlights of the activities are given below. JBGVS also gives emphasis on school infrastructure development. Across different locations, 185 school rooms including anganwadis and 82 school sanitary complexes have been repaired/constructed. Playgrounds were levelled in selected villages in Pune and Wardha. Interesting and informative painting of school walls were created in some schools in Pune and Wardha. Through JBGVS motivation and support, Golden Glades School in Maval taluka in Pune district got ISO certification. Welcome Programs for first standard students were conducted in 31 schools, in which 311 students enrolled. Extra-curricular activities were organized in 145 schools in all locations, in which 6575 students participated. Equipment like cupboards, fans, water coolers & purifiers, gas connection, books, educational toys and benches have also been provided to the schools in different locations. Annual Progress Report for the year 2016-17

Introduction: Integrated Rural Development: The integrated rural development work of JBGVS continued to touch the lives of the underprivileged people primarily in rural areas as well as in the urban localities surrounding the facilities of Bajaj Group. The work covers Maval and Khed talukas of Pune district; Gangapur, Paithan and Aurangabad talukas of Aurangabad district; Hinganghat, Seloo and Deoli talukas of Wardha district in Maharashtra; Dhod taluka of Sikar district in Rajasthan and Kichha taluka (Pantnagar town) of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand.

During FY 2016-17, JBGVS exited 15 villages as they achieved the required development level as per JBGVS indicator scale and has added 26 new villages for its work of integrated development. Thus, JBGVS is presently working in 110 villages directly and 1,500-plus villages indirectly through special projects like e-learning, education and water conservation.

1) Projects directly implemented by JBGVS: Education:

• Across Pune, Aurangabad, Wardha and Sikar districts, 531 E-Learning units were installed during the period as against the target of 500 units. In all, 1030 teachers were also trained to use these units effectively. After two years’ work, Wardha district has been fully covered (100%) under the E-Learning Project with all the eligible 737 Zilla Parishad schools having the units.

• JBGVS also gives emphasis on school infrastructure development. Across different locations, 185 school rooms including anganwadis and 82 school sanitary complexes have been repaired/constructed. Playgrounds were levelled in selected villages in Pune and Wardha. Interesting and informative painting of school walls were created in some schools in Pune and Wardha. Through JBGVS motivation and support, Golden Glades School in Maval taluka in Pune district got ISO certification.

• Under informal education, interactive sessions and trainings are regularly conducted covering topics like personality development, career guidance, vocational training, handicrafts, school management training, teachers training and parents awareness; apart from sports events and bal melawas in aanganwadis; across different locations.

• Study tours were conducted for 617 students, 49 teachers and Kiran volunteers from all locations.

Health: • In all, 388 awareness programs on various issues related to health such as cleanliness,

general healthcare, immunization, female foeticide, family planning and HIV were organized. Guidance on construction of soak pits and compost pits was provided in selected villages of Pune and Sikar districts.

• A total of 168 general health camps and 48 specialized camps were organized in which 8400 patients were treated/checked. Assistance was provided in implementing government schemes like pulse polio immunization and family planning surgeries. The mobile clinic of JBGVS reached out to 6,680 people in Pune district.

• Breast Feeding Awareness week was observed and ante-natal and post-natal care camps were organized in most villages across locations.

• Information on growing up issues, changes in body and nutritional diet was given by experts in 53 Kishori Vikas programs across different locations in which 2,470 adolescent girls participated. A total of 105 nutritional diet demo sessions were organized for women.

• In order to reach out effectively at the village level 100 plus local women were trained as multi-purpose workers (MPWs). In some cases, educational visits of MPWs were arranged.

• A room was constructed to house the water purification plant in Aurangabad district.

Economic development: • To increase household income of BPL/EWS families, 449 cows (including hybrid, Gir and

Gaolao varieties), 126 buffaloes and 1,221 goats have been distributed to 1,055 families. The monthly average income of co-partners (beneficiaries) from livestock has increased by Rs 3,000-5,000 per family. Milk collection centres were established wherever required and the same were linked to the government/private dairies. Model cowsheds were built with JBGVS support by 89 farmers. In total, 158 veterinary camps were organized across different locations, in which 12,540 animals were treated. Cow and goat rearing training was given to 1,205 farmers across different locations.

• Plant protection demonstration plots were made in Borgaon in Aurangabad district. In dry areas 35 farmers were supported for production of hydroponic green fodder. Vermi-compost was supplied in selected villages in Pune.

• Horticulture/agriculture training was organized for 1,295 farmers across all locations in Maharashtra.

• JBGVS organized study tours for 753 farmers in Pune and Aurangabad districts to places like Kisan agricultural exhibition in Moshi, Pune; Krushi Vidnyan Kendra, Baramati; Dapoli Krushi Vidyapeeth; Ralegan Siddhi; Hivre Bazar; Dnyan Prabodhini Sanstha, Jan Vikas Prathishthan, watershed development sites and demonstration plots. In all, 379 awareness sessions on various aspects of economic development were conducted in different locations.

• One HIV affected couple was supported for installation of a flour mill. Now the family earns Rs 9000 per month.

• Trainings were conducted for heads of self-help groups (SHGs) and for multi-purpose workers (MPWs) across locations in which 2,982 women participated. Ganesh Govind SHG from Darakwadi has started Bhimashankar Farm Producers’ Company, which sells fertilizers and seeds to farmers. In all, 25 SHGs from Nane Maval area got guidance from JBGVS in submitting application forms to local self-government bodies/financial institutions for obtaining working capital from district rural development agencies and 15 received revolving fund of Rs 15,000 each. In all, 21 SHGs of all locations were directly provided working capital of Rs one lakh by JBGVS for group entrepreneurship activities. Training and study tours were also conducted in Pune, Aurangabad, Wardha and Udham Singh Nagar districts for SHGs.

• Vocational training programs on skills like soap making, glass painting, chocolate making, food processing, cushion making, beauty parlour training and key holder making were conducted for 1,261 women in all locations.

Environment: • Desilting and deepening of two percolation tanks in the villages of Virul and Hetikundi in

Wardha district has been completed. Three water tanks were dug up in rock in the remote hilly villages of Ghotawdi and Handewadi in Khed taluka (Pune) on the lines of historical pattern since the times of Shivaji Maharaj. The water storage capacity of each tank is 0.72 TCM. In the coming months, barb wire fences and pulleys will be installed at these locations. Well deepening was undertaken by four farmers from Savla village in Pune district with JBGVS support.

• For water conservation, JBGVS conducted study tours, training programs and motivational programs across different locations and provided drip irrigation/sprinkler systems to 36 farmers in Wardha district, with funding of Rs 5,000 per farmer.

• To create awareness about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, rallies were organized and to promote a clean and healthy environment, awareness sessions on plastic hazards and the benefits of renewable energy technologies were conducted in different locations.

• A total of 19,000 forest trees and 14,000 fruit trees were planted. Vermi-compost was supplied to 96 Aamrai farmers for their mango orchards and 10 farmers constructed bio-gas plants near their houses with JBGVS support.

• Funds were provided to 136 farmers for building/repairing low cost eco-friendly houses.

Social development: • Awareness programs on issues like dowry, alcoholism and women empowerment were

organized across different locations. Various cultural programs, sports events and competitions were conducted for women in all areas. Mahila Melawas were organized in Pune, Wardha, Aurangabad and Pantnagar, which were attended by 9,500 women. Sports events were organized, equipment provided and prizes distributed to youth clubs in selected villages of Pune, Aurangabad, Sikar and Pantnagar.

• JBGVS participated in the process of preparing village development plan with government officials in Nane Maval area (Pune). Activities which can be implemented by JBGVS have been planned in the next year’s budget.

• Repair of a crematorium was funded for Malegaon Budruk village in Pune district.

• Reporters were taken out on field visits to show the grass-root work first hand, along with regular press communication and social media dissemination, resulting in wide publicity to JBGVS work.

Girl Child Education Project: Mukand Ltd, Kalwa: This project is being implemented by Mukand Ltd, Kalwa, in Shahapur taluka of Thane district. Following are the highlights so far. a) Geometry boxes, text books, note books, chappals and benches were distributed to students of

45 schools.

b) Out of the proposed construction/renovation of 10 separate

school sanitation complexes for boys and girls, four

complexes has been completed and work on two more is in

progress.

c) Due to special coaching in Vedic Maths, all students of one

of the schools have passed in Maths in SSC exam.

2) Projects funded through JBGVS - Grant in Aid: Natural farming project: For seven years, JBGVS provided grant in aid to Magan Sangrahalaya Samiti (MSS), Wardha for natural farming. The project concluded in March 2017. Here is a gist of the project achievements.

• The final figures show that MSS implemented this project with JBGVS support in 89 villages covering 5,234 farmers.

• In all, 2,093 farmers have started growing natural produce. Training and demos were given to beneficiaries on aspects like farming techniques, multiple cropping, seasonal crops, soil management and preparation, natural fertilizers and natural pesticides.

• A total of 33 demonstration plots for 17 types of crops were prepared with complete natural inputs.

• To help the farmers to collectively register under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) – a government initiative - Vidarbh Natural Agri Produce Growers Group was set up. Farmers were taught to process seeds with cow dung and cow urine (collectively called Bijamrut). Vidarbh Natural Agri Produce Growers Company was set up under the project to guide the farmers.

• This initiative has significantly reduced the farm input costs on seeds, chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. For instance, in case of cotton crop they have reduced by 70%. The market rate for such produce is also higher. For instance, naturally grown sorghum fetches a 22% higher price.

Magic Bus: Magic Bus Foundation implemented this project with JBGVS support in 11 villages of Khed taluka (Pune) since 2013. This is the third and the last year. Here is a gist of the project achievements. Going forward, this program will be extended further to other villages in Pune and Aurangabad districts with support from Bajaj CSR.

• This holistic development project reached out to over 1,500 children through 60 community youth leaders (CYLs).

• The project highlighted aspects like importance of education, health, child protection, community engagement, right to education (RTE), gender rights and socio-emotional learning through various activities.

• To this effect, sessions and field visits were conducted on topics like health education, sports skills and training to CYLs.

• Team building trainings were organized to build capacity in the updated version of curriculum.

3) Bajaj CSR Projects: JBGVS has been implementing various CSR projects of Bajaj group companies in and around its

Water Conservation Project: This CSR project is being undertaken in 51 villages of Aurangabad district, where nullah deepening and widening (over 55 km) has been completed at sites upstream of existing cement nullah bunds (CNBs). Desilting of five percolation tanks has been completed. Besides, 27 new CNBs and 15 Gabion structures were constructed. With all this work, 25,000 TCM of surface water storage

capacity has been created in Aurangabad district. All the deepened nullahs/rivers were filled with water 2-3 times after the good rains of 2016. Soil and water conservation training was also conducted at different places in the district. Drinking water problem for the dry season has been solved and in many cases multiple crops are being taken throughout the year. In addition, a mega watershed project of about 65,000 hectares in 108 villages has been planned for the next four

years. Preparation of detail project report (DPR) for 3,500 hectares has been completed by Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) and the same will be rechecked by JBGVS shortly. Out of the 65,000 hectares, watershed work of 21,000 hectares will be undertaken directly by JBGVS and the remaining 44,000 hectares will be completed through other NGOs. JBGVS will monitor the work of these NGOs. Initially, work in the first five villages will commence immediately.

Garbage disposal: Mazi City Taka Tak: This CSR project is being implemented through CARPE for Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), as a part of the solid waste management endeavor under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. AMC, along with CARPE and CII, is mobilizing the community for this campaign to garner citizens’ support and spread awareness about management of waste and sanitation. Work in 48 wards has been completed and in 12 wards the work is in progress. During the reporting period, following activities were carried out.

• Training and awareness among residents

• Training of jawans and safai workers

• Route mapping for 100% garbage collection

• Research and assistance on composting of organic waste

• Designing dry waste management system

• DPR for solid waste management has been submitted to AMC

• Inter-ward competitions were conducted

Garbage disposal: Swachh Waluj Abhiyan: This CSR project was implemented for garbage collection in partnership with BAVA through Marathwada Environmental Care Cluster (MECC) in Waluj near Aurangabad city. Financial support of Rs six lack was given to MECC.

Bajaj Education Initiative (BEI):

This CSR project was inaugurated at the hands of Shri

Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto in November 2015.

The aim of this project is to improve the quality of

education in Pimpri-Chinchwad (PCMC) and Pune

through infrastructure development and capacity

building of teachers, students and parents. The

project is currently

being implemented

in PCMC for municipal and low cost private schools. So far 99

schools have been covered. By March 2018, the project aims at

reaching out to a total of 130-140 schools. An assessment system

for students of 3rd, 6th and 8th standard has been developed and a

trial was also conducted. The focus will be on English and Maths. In

2017-18, it has been decided to consolidate the work in PCMC and

start quality improvement programs for teachers and students. In

2016-17, following training and educational programs were

organized.

and drop girl students of Jamnalal Bajaj Higher Secondary

Late Shri Jamnalal Bajaj. It was handed over by Shri Madhur

Bajaj, Vice Chairman, Bajaj Auto. Shri C P Tripathi, Chairman,

JBGVS was also present. Shri Bajaj interacted with the

students and villagers.

Water purification plant in Pune district:

A water purification plant (RO & UV) with per day capacity of

20,000 litres was installed under Bajaj CSR in Amboli village of Khed taluka of Pune district. This will

benefit the 2,500 villagers of Amboli.
