New Integrated Terminal Building and associated

works at Agartala Airport, Tripura (Terminal

As a Senior architect incharge of Master

planning for the city side and airside

development, providing comprehensive

Architecture and Engineering services for

Terminals. He directs the efforts of the

design team to deliver the project from

conception to reality. To create better

connectivity and serve the community by

enhancing the travel experience, Creative

Group designed Tripura airport. The design

tries to reflect local bamboo art and its

extensive usage in the state of Tripura. This

has been expressed on the terminal building

façade, i.e., the flexible and organic nature

of Bamboo has been expressed as an

element of the structure. The idea of local

art exposed boldly on the façade provide a

unique look and feel to the Terminal

building, at the same time using this idea in

the interiors through a sophisticated use of

new materials which provide local character

and depict local art. Skylights have been

used at various intervals, strategically

provided so that ample daylight is available

in all areas. Maintaining the fluidity of the

building elevation, the plan has also been

developed with a fluid intent incorporating

landscape areas inside the building that

provide relief space for the passengers. This

free flowing form has been further

accentuated at arrival & departure areas, in

form of landscaped courts, inside the

terminal building which can act as a relief to

the areas. The terminal planning also

allows maximum non-traffic revenue

generation by having most interior walls

utilized for retail opportunities and locating

the services towards the back, rather than

facing the public concourse area.

Goa Airport, Dabolim, Goa

Creative Group was hired by Airports

Authority of India to provide engineering

services for terminal building at Goa. Prof.

Charanjit Shah was the lead member of the

design team conceptualizing the architectural

design and evolving the iconic form for the

building. The terminal building has been

designed as free flowing symbolizing a wave

representing a proximity of sea and beaches of

Goa. His idea of incorporating solid roof, steel

portal frames, all in one displays the bold

appearance of Architecture and Engineering

design. His experience as an architect is much

seen in the optimal fine tuning of the

Architectural design giving it the desired

outlook.

Development of New Expandable Modular

Integrated Terminal Building at Raipur Airport

Prof. Charanjit Shah lead the Creative Group

team as the lead and sole consultant for the

planning and design of this new age iconic

building in Raipur. Prof Shah incorporated

distinct landscape features and an Art

program portraying the traditional “Bastar

Art”. This steel structure has a complex yet

elegant design offering maximum daylight and

an open view for the passengers. The project

has recently been awarded by INSDAG for the

structural steel design and construction 2011-

12. He engendered the principles of passive /

energy efficient planning into the terminal

planning process. Sleek projections and

reflective glass have been provided in the

design as a strategic solution to the reduction

in heat gain.

Prof. Shah was the chief design architect for

this energy efficient terminal building

designed to be GRIHA 4 star rated. The design

conceptualization and preparation of master

plan was done under the leadership of Prof.

Charanjit S Shah. He has designed this building

as an engineering marvel that is highlighted

with simplicity. Inspired by the body and wings

of an aeroplane, his design has a bold and a

sweeping form. The design character is

highlighted by fusion, a transparent façade on

N-S and cloudy façade on E-W while the

terminal is wrapped with one single metal

skin.

designer for this state of art convention centre

in Kongu Engineering college campus. From his

experience of 4 decades of architectural

practice, he came up with the ideal

architectural solution to the client’s special

requirement was a 4,500 person capacity

auditorium, an indoor tennis court, 4 indoor

badminton court and a conference hall,
