The height of the drop was determined by the operator, by mechanical Cathead mechan-ism. The hole was advanced from 55 feet to 100 feet when drilling procedures stopped for the day. Standing groundwa-ter water was noted at 72 feet at 11 AM. Chris Sexton, from Southwest Engineering, began down-hole logging procedures at 12:00 PM and was completed at 2:00 PM to a depth of 80. Roy Bros. left the site after down-hole logging procedures.

Drilling at Boring B-7

Gregg drilling mobilized their Mobile B-57 drill and support equipment to the site and drilled at the boring B-7 location (estimated at approximately 210 feet from centerline of Wey-mouth, and about 10 feet west of centerline of Paseo Del Mar). The driller used a spade bit to core through the asphalt and into the surficial soils to about 4.5 feet deep to allow for the insertion of the core barrel into the borehole. The driller then used an HQ-3 coring system and advanced the borehole to about 67 feet deep of the planned 120 foot deep borehole. Used 4 core boxes brought by Gregg, and 1 core box from stockpile at other side of site.

Drilling at Boring B-5

Elias and Jose of Roy Bros. drilling mobilized their CME-75 drill and support equipment to the site and drilled at the boring B-5 location (estimated at approximately 60 feet North from centerline of the landslide). The driller used a bucket auger to drill the entire depth. Samples were driven by the weight of the Kelly bars, at approximately 12-inch drop. The height of the drop was determined by the operator, by mechanical Cat-head mechanism. The hole was advanced from 40 feet to 80 feet when drilling procedures stopped. Chris Sexton, from Southwest Engineering, began down-hole logging, as shown in Photo 1. At this time standing water at the bottom of the hole was noted to be none to negligible. Down-hole logging procedures began at 10:30 AM and were completed at 1:30 PM. Roy Bros. continued drilling to 95 feet and completed drilling at 3:30 PM. Marcos Marin, from the City of Los Angeles, was on-site most of the day. Inclinometer casing was moved into fenced and locked area.

1 Drilling at Boring B-7

Gregg drilling continued to drill at the B-7 boring location on Paseo Del Mar. The boring was advanced to about 117 feet deep. At about 113 feet deep, the formation took all of the circulation drill fluid. At 117 feet, the driller said that there was too much friction and that they would not be able to ad-vance the hole any farther without circulation fluid. The dril-ler said that they would have to advance casing to the bottom of the hole to continue drilling. I phoned Dean Francuch and he said to stop the hole at 117 feet and that Geovision would be out at about 1:30 pm to perform televiewer geophysics in the borehole. The driller said that they would pull their drill string when Geovision arrived.

2

Geovision per-formed optical tele-viewer scan of bore-hole

Rob Stellar with Geovision arrived at about 1:40 pm and Gregg Drilling removed their drill steel. Geovision performed an optical televiewer scan of the borehole from about 2:30pm to 3:40pm. Water was found in the borehole at about 106 feet deep. Geovision was able to scan the hole to about 116 feet deep. The results of the survey appeared good. Driller standby time from about 12:15 to 3:40. Used 4 core boxes brought by Gregg.

Boart Longyear mobilized their Sonic core drilling and sup-port equipment to the site and drilled at the boring B-6 loca-tion (location shown on attached site plan). The driller ad-vanced 6-inch diameter casing to a depth of 110 feet. Well installation began at 10:30 AM. The crew took a lunch break from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM. At 3:30 PM 11 feet of material was noted in the well casing. As a solution to the problem was be-ing determined, the crew defined a route to the other side of the landslide for their next boring. The crew left the site at 5PM.

The hole was advanced from 95 feet to 120 feet when drilling procedures stopped. Chris Sexton, from Southwest Engineering, began down-hole logging. At this time standing water at the bottom of the hole was noted to be at about 112 feet. Down-hole logging procedures began at 12:30 PM and were completed at 2:30 PM. Marcos Marin, from the City of Los Angeles, was on-site most of the day. Approximately 14 yd3 of gravel was brought to the site at 10:00AM. The driver was told that pea gravel was ordered and that gravel that was delivered was too angular. A 1-ton dump truck was also around the site. Chris Sexton, who was in correspondence with Dean Francuch, said the gravel in the back of that truck was acceptable. The driver of the large truck returned his stock and replaced it with more acceptable ma-terial, 1/4-inch to ½-inch sub-angular gravel. That gravel was dumped about 15 feet South of the borehole. Inclinometer and gravel is planned to be installed on Friday, December 16.

Driller worked on reaming the hole out to allow for the instal-lation of inclinometer casing and a vibrating wire piezometer. Driller started with the incorrect bit for the formation type, and while waiting for the correct bit to arrive at the site, used a smaller diameter bit to work on beginning to ream the hole. When the correct bit arrived, the driller attempted to use that bit to ream the hole, but was having problems advancing, so went back to using the smaller bit. At end of day, driller reached bottom of hole with smaller diameter bit, and will have to use larger bit tomorrow to finish reaming. Driller brought 3.34 inch O.D. inclinometer casing to site. I set up VWP in preparation for installation. I photographed core in core boxes.

Boart Longyear mobilized their Sonic core drilling and sup-port equipment to the site and drilled at the boring B-6 loca-tion (location shown on attached site plan). The driller used a tremie pipe to wash the well casing with water. At 8:20 AM, the crew realized 11 feet of grout was inside the casing. From 8:30 AM to 10:45 AM, three well replenishment tests were completed. After conferring with Dean Francuch, with Shan-non and Wilson, a 6-inch diameter case was advanced over the well that was to be removed. From 11:45 AM to 1:45 PM, the crew worked to repair a broken hydraulic hose. The 6-inch diameter casing was installed to a depth of 90 feet and the well was fully removed by 5:15 PM with the aid of a spot-light. The crew left the site at 5:30 PM.

Driller worked on reaming the hole out to allow for the instal-lation of inclinometer casing and a vibrating wire piezometer. Driller used two different tri-cone button drill bits (about 4-inch diameter). Driller circulated bentonite slurry as a drilling fluid. After the driller thinned the bentonite slurry by pumping water to the bottom of the hole, the driller inserted a 120-foot long 3.34 inch O.D. inclinometer case into the hole. The A-axis is facing normal to the existing disturbed slope face about .8 feet below the top of the casing, which is protrudes about 3.5 feet above the ground surface. The driller mixed and pumped a concrete slurry to the bottom of the borehole and filled the hole. When the driller departed from the site the grout level decreased to about 3 feet below the ground surface. The driller said he will come back Mon-day to add more grout and a monument over the hole. Driller used: -10 storage drums -7 (47 lb) sacks of Portland cement - 2 (50 lb) sacks of quick gel bentonite - 1 drill bit

Drilling at Boring B-8

While onsite today Boart Longyear Drilling drilled out the pre-viously installed monitoring well (due to grout contamination of the sand filter) and advanced the 6-inch (Inside Diameter) ID cas-ing to a depth of 110 ft. The crew installed a new 2-inch ID PVC monitoring well to a depth of 106 ft and pulled their 6-inch ID casing from the ground. 39 bags of #2/12 filter sand, 3 bags of medium Bentonite chips, 5 bags of cement and 1 bag of Bento-nite gel were used to construct the monitoring well. The Boart crew mobilized the rubber track support rig and drill rig to the east side of the landslide and set up over boring B-8 (location “I_S” on the site plan). Boring B-8 was advanced and sampled to a depth of 18 ft using sonic rotary drilling technique. Below is a summary by time: 0645: onsite, Boart crew onsite, safety meeting 0715: drilling out previously installed piezo (removing cuttings from 6-inch casing) 0815: cleaned and advanced 6-inch casing to 110.0 ft, installing 2-inch ID piezometer and sand filter. 1107: bailing out water and sediment in casing with bailer, 2 ft of sediment remains, crew cleans out well casing using fresh water and tremie pipe 1145: placing medium bentonite chips for seal 1230: hydrating chips 1230-1330: hydrating bentonite chips and lunch break 1345: grouting well 1400: pulling 6-inch casing from borehole 1420: finished pulling casing, loading drill and support track rigs 1700: mobilized to location of boring B-8 and set up on hole, be-

Drilling at Boring B-8

While onsite today Boart Longyear Drilling installed a 2-inch inside diameter monitoring well into borehole B-8. The pro-posed bottom of well was 105 ft however; while pulling up the 6-inch diameter borehole casing during filter sand place-ment the filter sand locked around the 2-inch PVC well casing and lifted the well casing up 4 ft. The crew pumped water in-to the 6-inch borehole casing to create a head of water and in-creased the casing vibration during casing removal to prevent lifting of the well casing. The bottom of the monitoring well was installed to a depth of 101 ft below ground surface. 33 bags of #2/12 filter sand, 4 bags of medium Bentonite chips, 1 bag of grout and 1 bag of Bentonite gel were used to construct the monitoring well. Below is a summary by time: 0730: onsite, Boart crew onsite 0745: safety meeting 0830: Boart crew cleaning out the 6-inch borehole casing with a 4-inch sonic core barrel and water bailer 0850: installing a 2-inch ID 2 5/8 inch OD, PVC monitoring well to a depth of 105 ft below ground surface 1050: while pulling up the 6-inch borehole casing the filter sand “locked” around the PVC well casing and lifted the well up 1.5 ft, water was added into the borehole casing 1110: filter sand continues to “lock” around PVC well casing during borehole casing extraction, lifted well up additional 2.5 ft, additional water added to borehole casing to create water head, borehole casing vibration increased during extraction, PVC well casing appears steady with bottom of well at 101 ft. 1245: adding medium Bentonite chips and water to borehole 1300-1330: lunch break while Bentonite chips hydrate

Inclinometer Data Collection

I arrived on site today to measure slope movement in loca-tions B-1, B-5, B-7, and B-9 (Figure 1) using a Digitilt Incli-nometer, P/N 50302500, S/N 28699 and a Digitilt Datamate II. Others on site today included Dean Francuch, between 0700 and 1200, and Chris Sexton between 0700 and 1730. Inclinometer B-1 was previously monitored by Bill Nashem. Today, I recorded base line readings at all four locations. The readings were taken by matching the top edge of the metal feeder to the back edge of the colored bead (Photo 1). The top of the blue extension pipe, used at B-1, was level with the base of the metal feeder. I took three sets of readings, record-ing the A0 and A180 directions, at each location. Measure-ments were recorded every 2 feet between the depths as fol-lows:

• B-1: 128 to 4 feet • B-5: 120 to 4 feet • B-7: 116 to 4 feet • B-9: 114 to 4 feet

Recorded data will be post processed off site.
