Per impegni dell'ultima ora della Giunta Esecutiva non potrò essere presente nella

giornata di Giovedì al Workshop in onore del Prof. R.A. Ricci.

Questo fatto mi rattrista non poco in quanto avrei voluto raccontare personalmente

quanto egli ha rappresentato nella mia crescita professionale ed umana e quanto

l'INFN gli deve quale profondo innovatore della Fisica Nucleare italiana. La sua

intuizione nell’ aprirci al mondo esterno e relazionarci, fin dall'inizio, con i Centri

di Ricerca di Eccellenza dei primi anni settanta in Europa, fu un raro esempio di

lungimiranza e di intelligenza politica in relazione soprattutto al mondo accademico

asfittico di quell'epoca. E' stato anche e soprattutto grazie a Lui, se la Fisica

Nucleare italiana si è posta il problema delle grandi infrastrutture nazionali,

portando a termine una impresa ciclopica per quei tempi, date le risorse a

disposizione, come il progetto Tandem. Da Lui abbiamo imparato il gusto del

dubbio e della sana critica.

Grazie Prof. Ricci per tutto quello che hai fatto per noi !

Caro Renato,

Non potendo partecipare al workshop per il tuo compleanno vorrei inviarti i miei

migliori auguri ed esprimerti la mia stima ed il mio affetto.

Ci conoscemmo alla Scuola Normale nel lontano 1946. Da allora la nostra amicizia é

stata costante e fraterna ( 61 anni!) . Nel 51 tu andasti a Parigi. Ti rividi al ritorno e

ricordo che avevi al tuo fianco Claudine, cui va anche il mio saluto.

Nelle nostre scanzonate compagnie di normalisti potevo immaginarti come serio

insegnante di fisica oppure intento a misurare accuratamente livelli nucleari. Ma mai

avrei immaginato quello che poi sei divenuto: con le tue ricerche originali ed

apprezzate di spettroscopia nucleare, con le tue costruzioni e direzioni di laboratori e

gruppi di ricerca, con i tuoi anni di presidenza alla EPS e alla SIF, con i prestigiosi

premi ricevuti e le lauree honoris causa. Non si puo' non ammirare la tua infaticabile

opera a favore della fisica italiana ed europea. Ti auguro di continuare ancora per

molti anni la tua opera di ricercatore e di generosa promozione della ricerca.

Pio Picchi

Mi sarebbe piaciuto partecipare alla festa per gli 80 di Renato.

Ma la mia accidia me lo ha impedito. Ho pensato al viaggio ed al fatto che mi

sarei emozionato troppo a vedere Renato festeggiato per i suoi grandissimi meriti

ad una età che lui non dimostra.

Renato è l’opposto di un accidioso. E’ un trascinatore, un vulcano di idee, uno

che ha preparato molti fisici nucleari, che ha dato tanto per la costruzione del

laboratorio Nazionale di Legnaro. E stato per un tempo lunghissimo consigliere,

vicepresidente, presidente della Società Italiana di fisica fino a divenire

presidente onorario.

Ha creato diverse riviste. Presidente della Società Europea e co-fondatore di

tante altre attività. Renato per me è un amico carissimo che avrò come punto di

riferimento per ancora molti anni.

Caro Renato,

gli auguri per il compleanno fatti prima del tempo suonano male perché accorciano la

vita, fatti dopo suonano come emendamento di una dimenticanza, per cui quelli che

contano vanno fatti nel giorno stesso del compleanno, meglio sarebbe in

corrispondenza all’ora della nascita, ma questa non la conosco. E’ indubbiamente una

bella soddisfazione arrivare agli ottanta con la mente limpida come la tua, e solo con

qualche acciacco fisico, che però non può essere negato a nessuno. Ti auguro, ma

credo che è il pensiero di molti, di seguitare per molti anni ancora a disporre dei pregi

che possiedi, che sono anche a disposizione di nobili cause. Come vedi è anche un

augurio interessato! Siete pochi, forse solo tu e mia suocera, quelli che riuscite a

festeggiare il compleanno assieme al proprio nipote e questo è motivo in più per

augurare a te e a lui di seguitare a festeggiare questo avvenimento per molti anni

ancora.
