The A.P. Pollution Control Board (APPCB) is a statutory

authority entrusted to implement environmental laws and

rules within the jurisdiction of the State of Andhra Pradesh,

India.

The Board ensures proper implementation of the statutes,

judicial and legislative pronouncements related to

environmental protection within the State.

The APPCB was constituted in the year 1976 after the

enactment of the first major environmental legislation of the

country, the Water (Prevention and Control of Water Pollution)

Act, 1974.

The Board was subsequently given the responsibility of

implementing a series of other environmental Acts and Rules,

either directly or indirectly.

INTRODUCTION

The Board functions through its Head

Office at Hyderabad, five Zonal Offices

headed by five Joint Chief Environmental

Engineers and nineteen Regional Offices

headed by nineteen Environmental

Engineers.

FUNCTIONS & ACTIVITIES

To advise the State Government on any matter concerning

the prevention, control or abatement of water pollution

To collect and disseminate information relating to water

pollution and prevention.

To encourage, conduct and participate in investigations and

research relating to water pollution.

To collaborate with the Central Board in organizing the

training of persons engaged relating to prevention & control

of pollution.

To inspect sewage or trade effluents, works and plants for

the treatment of sewage and trade effluents.

To lay down, modify or annul effluent standards for the

sewage and trade effluents.

To evolve economical and reliable methods of treatment

sewage and trade effluents, peculiar conditions of solids,

climate and water resources of different regions.
