GENERAL This aircraft is fitted with an Apollo SL15M Audio Control Panel and Marker

Beacon Receiver. A closeup image of the SL15M and its location in the instrument panel are shown on the previous page. Before flight, all pilots are required to become competent using the equipment by reading and understanding the documentation provided. The documentation includes: • this Information Sheet • the Apollo Model SL15M Series Operation Manual, and • a UPS Aviation Technologies SL15M brochure. All of the above documents are stored in the aircraft’s glovebox as a single booklet. They can also be viewed as individual documents via the Internet — go to the SkyRentals website www.skyrental.com.au and select: HIRE Cessna 182 ► GOTO tech info ► menu option 5_ AVIONICS and INSTRUMENTS NOTE To avoid confusion and distraction, pilots who are not familiar with the correct operation of the SL15M should switch it off and bypass it by plugging their headset into two additional jacks under the instrument panel below the ALT circuit breaker — these connect directly to the

Apollo SL60 VHF Communications Transceiver in the centre console which will then be the only VHF transceiver and headset that can be used during the flight.

OPERATING SUMMARY

• PREREQUISITES: For the Apollo SL15M to work, o the aircraft’s BAT MASTER rocker switch must be ON, and o the AVIONICS POWER toggle switch/circuit breaker must be ON, and o the push-pull circuit breaker labelled AUD AMP must be in.

• POWERING UP THE SL15M: The power switch for the SL15M is a pushbutton within the left-side control knob — push the knob in once for ON (lights come on), push it in again for OFF (lights go out). • INTERCOM VOLUME: The left-side control knob also adjusts the intercom volume for all the headsets plugged in, to help match the intercom sound level with receiver sound levels. Turning the knob clockwise increases everyone’s intercom volume, anticlockwise decreases it. • PASSENGER ISOLATE: The lower toggle switch selects which of the 3 passengers the pilot will hear — none/front only/all. • MARKER BEACON: The upper toggle switch selects the volume of the 75 MHz Marker Beacon (low/high) and also tests the OM lamps on the front panel. • AUDIO SELECTOR SWITCHES: The 10 rectangular pushbuttons select which receiver the pilot wants to hear (SL60 Com1, MX300 Com2, MX300

Nav2, Cessna ADF, SL15M Marker Beacon). They do not select a matching transmitter. A light comes on when a button is selected. • TRANSMITTER SELECTOR SWITCH: The right-side control knob selects which transmitter the pilot wants to talk on (SL60 Com1 or MX300 Com2). It does not select a matching receiver.

• Pushbutton Com2 lets you hear, at the same time: o the VHF communication receiver in the TKM MX300; and o the VOR/LOC navigation receiver in the TKM MX300.

• Pushbutton Nav1 is not used. • Pushbutton Nav2 lets you hear, at the same time:

o the VOR/LOC navigation receiver in the TKM MX300; and o the VHF communication receiver in the TKM MX300.

• Pushbutton MKR lets you hear the 75 MHz Marker Beacon receiver in the SL15M. • Pushbutton ADF lets you hear the Cessna Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) receiver in the centre console. • Pushbutton AUX is connected to the MUSIC INPUT jacks mounted above the glovebox — use the white cable supplied to connect a music player. • The right-side control knob can select either the Com1 transmitter (Apollo SL60 VHF) or the Com2 transmitter (TKM MX300 VHF) to the pilot’s and co-pilot’s headset microphones. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES There is no change to the airplane’s emergency procedures when this avionic equipment is installed. In the event of an inflight situation requiring shutdown of non-essential electrical systems, the Apollo SL15M is considered to be non-essential and should be switched OFF. NOTE To bypass the SL15M, read the NOTE in Section 1 of this Info Sheet on how to connect the pilot’s headset directly to the Apollo SL60 VHF COM. S L 1 5 M S E C T I O N 4

NORMAL PROCEDURES The Apollo SL15M replaces the Audio Control Panel which is described in the Cessna Pilot’s Operating Handbook on pages 7-36, 7-37, and 7-38.

However, an externally mounted 75 MHz Marker Beacon antenna, or several related external antennas, will result in a minor reduction in cruise performance. The 75 MHz Marker Beacon antenna for the Apollo SL15M is located inside the tailcone, on the belly of the aircraft, behind the ELT shelf:
