    APOCALYPTICON

    These are the End Times.

Worlds burn and stars grow dim.

    Throughout millennia of unremitted

    bloodshed, butchery and genocide the

galaxy has been torn asunder. Humanity

and their xenos allies stagger on the brink

of extinction, relentlessly assailed by the

incessant hordes of darkness. All hope

    appears lost.

An alliance of the remaining forces of good

converges on one star system, thousands

of warships disgorging legions of troops

and materiel, determined to make a bitter

last stand against the legions of evil.

Slavering hordes of darkness swoop down

from the stars, bringing with them the

promise of slaughter. Across the blasted

wastes of one world billions of warriors

will fight, supported by a million tanks,

    gunships and titans. They will all perish;

but with their deaths, they hope to save a

dying galaxy. These are the End Times.

    Welcome to Apocalypticon.

    APOCALYPTICON

    LIL LEGEND STUDIOS

  • APOCALYPTICON UK 2014

    APOCALYPTICON UK is an official

    extension of the hugely successful

    annual Apocalypticon games,

    brought together and hosted by

    Miniwargaming.com. As custodians

of the event within the United

    Kingdom, Animosity and host venue

Slayer Gaming would l ike to thank

you for joining us for the first

    Apocalypticon UK!

Those of you who are famil iar with

    Apocalypticon and Miniwargaming

.com wil l be aware that it is an

    Apocalypse game of immense

    proportions! Players are encouraged

to bring huge armies, massive titans,

    obscene gargantuan creatures and

vast swathes of regular tanks and

infantry for one insane weekend of

    Warhammer 40k Apocalypse

    gaming!

    Players famil iar with Apocalypse

gaming on such a large scale wil l be

aware of the l ikel ihood that many of

    those titans, gargantuan creatures,

tanks and infantrymen wil l be hauled

from the table in droves as the

    weapons of Apocalypse are brought

    to bear!

With such a huge table top

endeavour, the key to an entertaining

    and enjoyable weekend at

Apocalypticon UK wil l be to leave

    your preconceived ideas about

wargaming at home, come for the

fun and leave with great memories!

ATTENDING APOCALYPTICONUK 2014Tickets are 30 for the weekend and

    the price of your exclusive

    APOCALYPTICON UK 201 4 t-shirt is

    included in the cost.

Tickets are avai lable from Slayer

    Gaming on 01 623 232961 and wil l

be sent via email to the address you

I t is important to know the fol lowing

    when purchasing your ticket:

    - Your name

    - Contact telephone number

    (mobile preferred)

    - Faction

    - Points pledge (points you

    wil l bring!)

    - T-shirt size

These detai ls wil l ensure that the

    administrative elements of the

weekend go as smoothly as possible

    so please provide them when

    purchasing a ticket.

ARMY LIST SUBMISSIONPlayers wil l be required to submit an

    army list to

    animositywargaming@gmail .com by

    the 25th of October 201 4!

ANIMOSITY APOCALYPTICONUK RULESAPOCALYPTICON UK is a large scale

Apocalypse game. Games on such a

    scale can quickly become unwieldy

    and almost unmanageable, but with

    these strategical ly placed house

rules we have sought to el iminate

    and enhance certain elements of

game play that wil l al low such a

huge game to flow without issue.

Please try to remember that each of

    these house rules has been

    implemented with good reason (and

intentions!) to ensure we all have a

    fantastic weekend.

    7th Edition/Apocalypse

The game wil l use 7th Edition

    Warhammer 40,000 core rules and

    Apocalypse rules. Standard codices,

    supplements and Forgeworld books

    are al l welcome.

Rules for vehicles (especial ly Super

    Heavies and Gargantuan Creatures)

that are no longer available, but have

    been issued via the Games

    4

  • 5

    Workshop framework, are

    acceptable (for example Warlord and

    Imperator Class titans).

    Customised Rules

Custom rules from outside of the

Games Workshop framework wil l be

accepted subject to scrutiny by the

    Animosity Committee. Please inform

us of potential rules for large or

    small conversions prior to

submitting your army list. The more

time provided for this, the easier it

wi l l be to manage; so get those

    requests in early!

    WYSIWYG

    The scale of APOCALYPTICON UK

wil l require an element of WYSIWYG.

    Please dont proxy miniatures

    without first seeking confirmation

    from event organisers (as with

custom rules) and ensure that al l

    infantry and regular vehicles are

played as model led. I t can be

unwieldy using a few miniatures that

represent a different weapon to that

model led; multiply that over a large

    scale Apocalypse force for every

player and it would soon be anarchy!

    Were not playing Anarchy its

    APOCALYPTICON UK!

    3CM - Three Colour Minimum

    APOCALYPTICON UK 201 4 wil l not

    require a three colour paint

minimum for this, our first year. We

do ask that miniatures are base

coated and at the very least

    undercoated for the event. Future

events wil l see the implementation

of the 3CM rule as per other

    Animosity gaming weekends.

    Time Limits

Due to the scale of APOCALYPTICON

UK it is necessary to implement a

time l imit. Each phase of the game

wil l be assigned a time limit. These

time l imits wil l be subject to change

depending upon the stage of the

weekend, so there is no arbitrary set

    time for Movement, Shooting or

Assault. The time granted for each

phase wil l be announced prior to the

    commencement of the phase.

    Area of Effect

    The sheer size of the

    APOCALYPTICON UK game board

    wil l require careful game

management. With this in mind it is

necessary to l imit certain rules. Any

    power/effect that is required to

    affect an entire army/force or

faction, or affect al l miniatures in

play, wi l l only do so on the individual

table that the weapon/rule or power

is being used upon. Same codex

armies of the owning player that are

spl it across a table divide are not

    subject to this rule.

Ranges are in play. I f a weapon has

a range of 360 then the weapon

may fire 360. Likewise any psychic

power that has a range is not

restricted by the Area of Effect

    restriction.

GOOD versus EVILThere are two factions competing in

    APOCALYPTICON UK; the forces of

    Good and Evi l !

    Players are divided into these

factions by their choice of forces for

the weekend. The table on the

fol lowing page wil l provide you with

a guidel ine to which faction you wil l

be al igned with, though a famil iarity

with the background of the 41 st

Mil lennium wil l tel l you that there is

nothing certain in the Grim Darkness

    of the Far Future!

    EVIL

    7

    The Distinction between the forces

of Good and Evi l can become

blurred, as evidenced in the table by

the traitor kind. Many players wil l

have chosen to use Codex Dark

Angels to represent their Fal len

Chaos Space Marines, or an army of

    Chaos Marines using Codex Blood

Angels for their core rules and this is

    entirely acceptable. Which Codex

you use to support your miniatures

on the table top is not as important

as enjoying the sight of such well

thought out armies, so take to it!

The table is not exhaustive. There

are many players who wil l recently

have begun to col lect armies from

    the Forgeworld Horus Heresy range.

    Provided you avoid named char-

acters for the weekend and declare

your al legiance upon army list

    submission they are also welcome.

    This includes the Mech-anicum

range which can be fielded for either

Good or Evi l as the player wishes.

Al l ies! We ask that players theme

their al l ies according to their chosen

faction. As an example, a player with

a 5000 point Chaos Marine army can

happi ly al ly with any other Evi l

faction army in their col lection but

may not al ly with a Codex Grey

Knights army as well . Those armies

    which are sometimes ambiguous

    (were looking at you Imperial

    Guard/Imperial Knights/Dark Angels

etc) may be al l ied with your other

Evi l forces if you wish to bolster your

    forces.

    Restrictions that would normally see

you deploy some distance from your

chosen al l ies are not in place for

APOCALYPTICON UK. We need al l

the room for miniatures so no large

    deployment gaps! Special rules or

    powers that would benefit your

entire army wil l only benefit those

from the Codex using the special

rule. A Codex - Chaos Daemon army

area/unit buff wil l not buff your units

    from Codex Orks etc.

DeploymentPlayers wil l be assigned a deploy-

ment zone prior to arrival according

to the scale of the army they intend

to field (this is why it is important to

    make a points pledge). Players

fielding a larger army wil l gain a

    larger table edge. However, we

encourage you to share with your

neighbours (they are your al l ies after

    al l ! ) as this wil l help encourage a

    team approach.

Good and Evi l factions wil l enter a

secret bid for the right to deploy

first. Bidding for TIME wil l determine

    who gains this vital initiative.

No matter how long your faction has

to deploy, players are asked to

    deploy a maximum of 1 5,000 points

    on Friday evening. Saturday morning

(Turn 2) wil l al low for reserves as per

    the Apocalypse rules.

Players must deploy a minimum of

    5000 points.

Movement/Psychic PhaseThe Movement Phase has been

    combined with the Psychic Phase.

When you are provided the Time

Limit for the Movement Phase this

wil l include your al located time for

the Psychic Phase. I t is up to you

and your immediate al l ies to

determine when you wil l begin the

Psychic element of your turn but al l

movement by the individual must be

    completed prior to using any

    psychic powers.

The Dice pool for the Psychic phase

wil l be determined for you. Prior to

    the turn a D6 rol l wi l l be made; it

then appl ies to each individual 6ft

    table.

  • Shooting PhaseThe Shooting Phase wil l take place

as per the game rules but wil l be

timed. Once the time l imit is reached

no more dice may be rol led unless it

is to resolve a shot that has already

    HIT.

Due to the implementation of a time

l imit it is important to respect your

    opponents Shooting Phase as you

would wish them to respect yours.

    Please dont wander off aimlessly

    and draw down your opponents

    time.

Assault PhaseThe Assault Phase wil l take place as

per the game rules but wil l be timed.

Once the time l imit is reached no

more dice may be rol led unless it is

to resolve a combat that has already

    rol led to hit.

Due to the implementation of a time

l imit it is important to respect your

    opponents Assault Phase as you

would wish them to respect yours.

    Please dont wander off aimlessly

    and draw down your opponents

    time.

ScoringEach table wil l feature Objectives.

Objectives wil l only score from turn

two and wil l cease scoring at the

    end of turn 4.

    Super Heavy Vehicles or Gargantuan

Creatures that successful ly land the

ki l l ing blow (the blow that wrecks/

    destroys/takes the last wound or

    removes) upon another Super Heavy

or Gargantuan Creature gains +1 VP

to the Victory Point tal ly.

Players wil l find a table at the rear of

this Campaign pack in which they

record each of their losses. I t is the

    player's responsibi l i ty to calculate

their own losses each turn and then

    report them to the TO.

    Players in attendance with smaller

forces wil l receive more Re-

surrection Tokens at the outset of

the game and the number of

Resurrection Tokens you receive wil l

be calculated in relation to the

    largest armies present.

    8

Resurrection TokensEach player wil l receive a number of

    Resurrection Tokens upon arrival .

    Resurrection Tokens may be ex-

changed in order to return units to

the table top. Units may only be

    resurrected if they have previously

    been completely removed or

    destroyed in a previous turn.

    An Introduction to Animosity

"Victory and defeat are a matter of

    definition."

    - from the Axioms of War, Tactica

    Imperial is

    "Look out for ewoks. . . they'll make a

drum kit from your helmet before you

know they've taken your head off."

    - from Inquisitor Pengadi lan's

    personal notes, The Discordia

    Campaign

"Once more into the fray. Into the last

good fight I'll ever know. Live and die

on this day. Live and die on this day."

    - John Ottway, The Grey

    Animosity Events aim to bring

    together the Warhammer 40,000 and

    Fantasy Battle gaming communities

    for exciting, narrative based gaming

    events. The objectives of Animosity

Events is to al low players to play in

    non-competitive story driven

encounters, in which the power of

the narrative is more important than

the power of the army bui ld. Gamers

with al l levels of experience are

welcome to join us at the events,

and we hope that al l players that

    attend can enjoy the campaigns.

Whilst there are obvious elements of

winning and losing, we are not

    running tournaments, we hope that

players wil l play the miniatures they

want to use because they want to

use them, not because they want to

win. Some of our most memorable

    moments in war-gaming have been

    mid-annihi lation, when a standalone

hero dies hard and makes that

game, the game in which we took a

    beating, more memorable than any

    of our victories.

    Sportsmanship is preferable to

    gamesmanship, and whether

    winning or losing please remember,

even in defeat, at a narrative

campaign your story is not over and

from the jaws of defeat you can

    snatch the cake of victory!

    The Venerable Dread [aka geordie09

    aka Scott]

    We're extending an invitation to

gamers from across the UK to join

us for some action in the 41 st

Mil lennium (and earl ier). The plan is

    simple. Hopeful ly we'l l have 30+

people (the more the better) who

would l ike to attend the campaign

weekends with us. We hope to make

    the weekends something for gamers

to remember and enjoy (hopeful ly).

What we don't want to do is host a

tournament. So if you would l ike to

attend please come with an open

mind and bear in mind that your

opponents want to have a good time

    at a narrative campaign. I f they

wanted to go to a tournament and

    play in uber-competative mode, they

    would.

    What is a narrative campaign?

So, who enjoys a good Black Library

book? Or an action movie, first-

person shooter or video games with

    intense strategies and engrossing

storyl ines, for that matter? I think its

pretty safe to say that we al l love a

good story and, as gamers of

Warhammer 40,000, we al l love big

stories of epic confl ict, dramatic

    battlescapes and heroic characters.

Now, if only we could re-enact or

even create our own epic campaigns

set in the war torn galaxy of the 41 st

    mil lennium

Well , with narrative campaigns you

    can!

Rare is the war that is won with but

a single battle - most become

gruel l ing, brutal campaigns fought

over weeks, months, years or even

l ifetimes. Heroes are made and

legends born in these epic crusades.

A narrative campaign is both an

    exciting and immersive way for

players to engage in a series of

l inked games where the narrative

    steers the course of events.

Whereas a single game provides a

tactical chal lenge, a series of games

    where victory and defeat affects

    each subsequent game in positive

    and sometimes catastrophic ways -

brings the gaming experience to a

    whole new level .

A narrative campaign can be very

simple, or it can be incredibly

    involved, depending upon how the

players and organisers want to play

it. There are many ways that it can

be run and organised; it's al l down to

how you want to play it and what

you want to get out of it. Organised

    events can include detai led

    background stories, unique

    characters, rules, maps, charts and

more. A couple of friends wanting to

add a new dimension to their regular

    games might write short, simple

    narrative campaigns that can be

played over an evening or two.

Depending on how you want to do it,

    organisation of such a campaign

    can be extremely loose, relying

purely on the results and the players

creating much of the narrative as

they go along. Others might want to

spend weeks or months careful ly

    planning the campaign in

meticulous detai l , so as to ensure

    that they leave no stone unturned;

    no eventual ity unforeseen.

There are several different types of

    campaign system that can be

    incorporated into a narrative

    campaign, using tree or ladder

sequences that form a structure for

your games. I t is important to

mention that there are no set rules in

    how you design your own

campaigns, but there wil l be rules to

adhere to if you are playing in a

    narrative event organised by others.

    Conclusion

There are a multitude of different

possibi l i ties in narrative campaigns.

Whether you want a quick ladder

campaign for two players, or an

    ongoing intergalactic event involving

    dozens of players, with narrative

campaigns you can design and play

an enjoyable series of l inked games

with evolving storyl ines that wil l

hopeful ly l ive long in the players

    memories.

When al l is said and done, its al l

    about creating an enjoyable and

    memorable experience for everyone.

I ts al l about having fun!
