Why NYP is the right choiceThrough our brand of holistic development, you will find learning opportunities that go beyond textbooks. Go on exploratory trips, tinker with ideas and come up with prototypes. Find innovative solutions to problems that people face day after day.

Join one of more than 80 CCAs, or take part in a creative arts workshop at our Student Life Academy — we believe that these experiences will help you build your network and grow into your potential.

We’ll get you to do electives in areas that are not in your chosen specialisation — so that you can see how other fields and industries are developing. Take a foreign language, or find time to create your own pet projects at our large MakerSpace@NYP.

Collaborate with students from other disciplines and challenge your own ideas of what you can achieve.

Together with our network of industry partners, we will work to nurture your development, expand your horizons and fuel your passions.

NYP has fundamentally transformed teaching and learning with the Professional Competency Model (PCM).

Put simply, it moves away from learning subjects, like Maths, in silos. Instead, you will learn the relevant skills needed, and how they all work together, in work tasks. So instead of learning the A to Z of physics, you will learn the specific bits of maths, the exact engineering know-how to draw and analyse data from smart sensors, and top it all off with public speaking skills — so that you can present your findings and make your work count.

A key feature of the PCM: It is co-built, and in some cases co-taught, by industry majors and leading companies. This means that you will get additional industry certifications while getting your diploma!

Because these companies are at the forefront of their expertise areas, your course will continue to remain relevant and desirable.

So far, Microsoft, Oracle Academy, Ubisoft and Nvidia — among others — are involved in co-creating PCM courses with us.

is the game-changer

The SHSS experience

CELINE LEE XIANG YI DIPLOMA IN NURSING

Celine volunteered for a medical mission trip to Cambodia in secondary school and decided to become a nurse after being moved by the selfless sacrifices made by the medical team and witnessing the appreciation from the patients.

She chose the Diploma in Nursing at SHSS for its plethora of nursing specialist courses. During her course of study, Celine did a one-week internship in Japan, where she visited various healthcare institutions to learn more about their healthcare delivery.

“I was impressed by how healthcare was delivered in Japan. Much attention was paid to the smallest details, and everything was done with the patients’ best interest in mind,” says Celine.

“This will always serve as a reminder that the needs of my patients are of utmost importance, and that quality nursing care includes taking care of their mental and emotional needs.”

Celine also completed a seven-week internship at the University of Pennsylvania, USA.

AUTTHASRI RAKCHANOK, ELLA DIPLOMA IN ORAL HEALTH THERAPY

Ella switched from a career in logistics to work as a dental assistant in a clinic. But she was not confident in her abilities — she felt unable to point out lapses or offer advice to patients who sought her opinion.

Studying at SHSS changed all that. Just six months into her studies, she noticed a significant change in herself. She grew confident in voicing her opinion and thinking independently, and noticed that patients showed greater trust in her advice.

“SHSS has helped me develop both professionally and as a person. I’ve learnt to understand my strengths and weaknesses, to be discerning in my judgment, to think independently and critically, and to communicate effectively,” says Ella.

UMMI SHAFIAHDIPLOMA IN SOCIAL SCIENCES (SOCIAL WORK)

(NOW KNOWN AS DIPLOMA IN SOCIAL WORK)

Ummi wanted a career that could impact the lives of others, so she decided to pursue the Diploma in Social Sciences (Social Work) to learn about the needs of individuals across a wide spectrum.

She learnt that being caring and having the desire to help and care for others do not always equate to positive outcomes. Knowledge and skills to enhance people’s social functioning and overall well-being must also come in so that clients are cared for in a productive and meaningful way.

“SHSS offered me invaluable learning opportunities to hone a diverse and demanding range of professional, emotional and cognitive skills necessary for social work practice. I’ve found myself growing and developing not only in my professional knowledge and skills, but also as a person,” shares Ummi.

She found her calling in healthcare

Career switch led to new knowledge and self-discovery

Honing her skills and knowledge to help others
